Obtineo Collection

If ordinary storage jars just won’t do, you’ll want to take a look at the Obtineo Collection by Yorkshire-based designer Tom Hutchinson. Handcrafted entirely in the UK, each storage jar is made from turned solid ash and oak, hand-blown glass, 100% wool felt, and a silicone seal to ensure a tight fit. Use them in the kitchen for storing foodstuffs or in the bathroom or office for organizing smaller items. Pledge £30 or more to back the project and receive one (or many) jar(s) of your very own.

Neon Alphabet

Just in case you’re in the market for not-inexpensive wall art, take a look at the Neon Alphabet letters from Bernadette Deddens and Tetsuo Mukai of London-based Study O Portable. Each 10″ letter is made from borosilicate glass tubes and patinated fine silver; these materials reflect “ambient light as a frozen spectrum of deep, rich color.” The price is per letter, so don’t go getting your heart set on buying enough letters for your favorite quote.

Rothko Serving Boards

These wooden boards are for serving rather than for cutting, which makes sense once you notice the nicely crafted recessed rectangles (hence the ‘Rothko’) and how well the different sizes would mix and match for an architecturally minimal presentation. Made from sustainable panga panga wood, the Rothko Serving Boards were designed by Swedish studio Claesson Koivisto Rune and produced by Botswana furniture maker Peter Mabeo working in collaboration with local artisans.

Suburbia Wall Storage

If you’re in need of wall storage and haven’t yet fallen in love with the Uten.Silo ($395), then maybe you’ll like the Suburbia by Seletti. When viewed from its edge, a small neighborhood with fences, trees, and homes appears. That novel detail does well when hung vertically, as it provides plenty of nooks and crannies to store all sorts of things in the office, bathroom, or entryway.

Keyplate

This might not be to everyone’s taste considering its very utilitarian appearance, but it certainly will come in handy to anyone who tends to misplace their keys or other small, important things. The Keyplate replaces the existing strike plate and extends around the frame to offer up a small space for hanging whatever you need to take with you out the door. It’s a simple solution that would fit small entryways perfectly.

Hafele’s “Fineline” Drawer Organizers

Have you ever walked into a kitchen showroom like Bulthaup or Poggenpohl? If you have, you’re familiar with their customized drawer organizational systems, and you may have even (metaphorically) drooled over the sleek lines of perfect boxes in which to place your utensils, spices, plates, and pans. Dropping $60k to $80k for kitchen cabinets is unfortunately much more than many of us can afford, and, sadly, we say goodbye to such lovely drawer interiors, thinking they are beyond our budgets.

Boskke Cube Planter

Here’s a planter that alludes to the traditional shape of the humble terra cotta pot, however, rather than hiding the dirt and roots, it puts the plant’s root system on display for all to see. And, there’s a handy function not immediately apparent: the clear body also acts as a water reservoir that supplies up to four weeks of water.

Omnioutil Basket [Bucket]

Yes, it’s a bucket, which doesn’t sound very exciting, but it’s also a basket and a stool, and that versatile array of functions means it’s pretty suitable for any home. As a stool with the lid in place, they support up to 331 pounds (150 kg). Fill the Omnioutil Basket with garden stuff, toys, water/ice, recycling…or, my favorite, use the hole in the handle to thread a hose- perfect for outside clean up or washing the car.

Romo Coat Hanger

Does this coat hanger remind you of the basalt columns at Giant’s Causeway? The answer is yes, whether you knew about the hexagonal stepping stones before I gave you the Wikipedia link or not. Designed and fabricated by Dan Romo, owner of Oakland-based Studio Romo, the Romo Coat Hanger is made of solid, cold-rolled steel and has magnetic covers to hide wall anchor bolts (a small-yet-very-nice detail).

Chanto Container

Why, yes, this compact container is just the thing to house your smaller items. Takumi Shimamura’s Chanto Containers are easily stacked, which makes them a good choice for office or kitchen (yes, you may store food in them) but it’s the sliding fluorescent lid that gives each curved cube its striking appearance.

A while ago someone wrote in enquiring after modern Lazy Susans, and here we are, months after the initial request with a smacker of an option. Stick-Up Monthly Planner

If you had one of these Stick-Up Monthly Planners you could keep better track of certain events like Mother’s Day in the UK this Sunday (Mother’s Day in the US is May 11, sorry if my post yesterday confused you). And, in true Poketo style, the planner is open dated so you can use it whenever you wish. In busy months, write down important events and stick the page on a mirror or wall so you won’t forget. And, of course, there’s always the Stick-Up Weekly Calendar ($10) if you need more detail.

Thin Light

How’s this for an elegant task light? The Thin Light by designer Peter Bristol can stretch out to about three feet across a desk, yet when folded only takes up a minimal vertical space. A ball joint at the base allows for multi directional movement and 33 high-powered dimmable LEDs produce over 500 lumens- that’s enough for an even, warm white light.

Fender Floor Lamp

Some of the most interesting interiors have a mix of modern and traditional elements, which is why some of us are always drawn towards pieces with a sense of history. After seeing the price on this Fender Floor Lamp from Wilkos Electric, I certainly was sold; I think it will live next to one of my more modern armchairs. Each Fender is individually handcrafted by Maciek Wilkos in his Montréal-based workshop and can be customized to suit your space.
