Floor Lighting

Dewy Floor & Table Lamp

It’s hard to feel bad when you’re next to a dewy glow. These blown frosted glass domes let off a bright, cozy bubble of light, just like a new day. We could all use a fresh start, couldn’t we? Especially with the state of things. Maybe this little lamp will switch our brain on towards a happier mood even on the dreariest of days… we can hope.

Standing Lamp by Muller Van Severen

Let’s finish off the week with something whimsical. Perhaps you don’t have the room (or the budget) for a Duo Seat + Lamp by Muller Van Severen, but maybe a Standing Lamp could slot in beside your sofa and/or favorite reading chair. No? Oh well, at least we can admire the very thin curve arc propped up by two spindly legs in blue, yellow, gray or black. There’s a lot of personality in such a spare form, don’t you think?

Daphine Floor Lamp Classic Reading Lamp

What is that floor lamp that keeps showing up in Vincent Van Duysen’s interiors? Why, I was wondering the same thing, as the name wouldn’t quite make itself known amongst the other many products committed to memory. It’s the Daphine Floor Lamp Classic Reading Lamp by Tommaso Cimini, and, yes, I kind of want one too. In production since 1975, the Daphine Terra Classic has a small shade and delicate joints offset by a chunkier base. Its light spreads overly wide, and is adjustable in two steps. While I’d opt for the black (as Van Duysen does), there’s also a white and nickel-plated option.

OK Lamp

You know what’s cool? A floor to ceiling LED light designed by none other than Konstantin Grcic. I swear, I want everything he’s designed, and this ultra-flat light disk hung from a wire is currently at the top of my list (if only I had a place to put it). The light is directable over 360 degrees, so use it as a reading light in the living or bedroom, or just hang it in a corner for an ambient light source. A cone-shaped counterweight keeps it in place.

Foundry Floor Light

Save your dollar bills (or your tax refund) because Resident Studio has a few new lighting options available. The Foundry Floor Light by Nat Cheshire, shown above, stands at 6 feet 2 inches high and has a minimal rectangular frame. The LED light source shines warm light onto the hand-cast bronze base, providing ambient light in a large, vertical visual space. The entire impression is more sculptural object than useful light source, but, hey, in this case, it can be both.

Mirobolite Lamp

Let’s start the day off with a semi-expensive floor lamp. The Mirobolite has obvious influences from an ordinary task lamp, yet with its multiple joints and color options it becomes slightly extraordinary. ‘Slightly’ because the black and raw version don’t entirely blow your socks off, however, if you’re a little more daring in your color scheme, you might prefer the multicolor, which doesn’t hold back with its palette one bit.

Stickbulb Lamps

This Stickbulb collection by RUX for is something to be noted. A single, linear LED module is held by a minimal steel base, providing light without the mass usually associated with a table or floor lamp. That theme is repeated with all variations: Vertical and Horizontal Wall Sconces, various lengths of the Linear Pendant, and the Little Bang Table Lamp, just to name a few. Handmade in New York City from sustainably sourced materials, the collection is currently available from YLighting.

Fender Floor Lamp

Some of the most interesting interiors have a mix of modern and traditional elements, which is why some of us are always drawn towards pieces with a sense of history. After seeing the price on this Fender Floor Lamp from Wilkos Electric, I certainly was sold; I think it will live next to one of my more modern armchairs. Each Fender is individually handcrafted by Maciek Wilkos in his Montréal-based workshop and can be customized to suit your space.

Noguchi Akari Lights

Paper lights are everywhere in today’s marketplace (for example, IKEA’s VÄTE Table lamp), yet there’s still something entirely special about the original designs of Isamu Noguchi. Icons of mid century design, each Akari lamp is handmade from washi paper and bamboo ribbing by the original manufacturer in Gifu, Japan. In the words of Noguchi, “the harshness of electricity is thus transformed, as if by magic, into the light of our origins – sunlight – so that it’s warmth can carry on filling our rooms after dark.”

Axis Light

Truly interesting floor lamps are very rarely inexpensive, so prepare yourself for a comma (and an unfortunately placed ‘9’) in this price tag. The Axis Light is made from a solid piece of aluminum tube with two support rods that slide freely, allowing the angle to be adjusted. The lightsource rotates 180° around the main tube.

Cage Lamps

The Cage lighting collection designed by Arik Levy for Forestier combines the industrial aspect of protective cage light fixtures with traditional paper lanterns (a more obvious iteration is found in the In & Out Lamp small and large). This opposites-attract formula results in a successful pairing that is surprisingly elegant, and as a result this collection has moved to the top of the wish-this-was-available-statside list.

Channel Task and Reading Lamp

How about some lighting from Rich Brilliant Willing for this Wednesday afternoon? The Channel lamps are fit for many a modern interior, thanks to their minimal silhouette and material mix.
