Be Nice Tea Towel x David Shrigley

It’d be awfully tempting to stuff this tea towel into the mouth of a loud, mean person. Would we get punched in the face? Probably. But, it might shut them up, at least temporarily. And, it’d be hard to be mean when holding a tea towel with a pretty rainbow and the words ‘BE NICE’, wouldn’t it? So, maybe they’d change, as if by magic. After removing it from their mouths, of course.

Life is Fantastic Tea Towel X David Shrigley

Isn’t it though? This tea towel features an image by Scottish artist David Shrigley, and will perhaps remind you to appreciate where you are in life every time you dry your hands or dishes. Or, hey, you could even frame the thing as art, if you so desire. And, if you’re not thinking your life is particularly fantastic, maybe now is a good time to assess what would make it so, considering the new year is just around the corner.

Ash & Anchor Tea Towels

Buy one (or two) for yourself, one for your best friend, one for your mother, and, if you have another $25 to spare after all that, send one to me. Constellation Tea Towels

Tea towels are so much better than paper towels, at least for the simple spills in the kitchen. It’s a smart way to save a little money over time and reduce waste, and they’re also much nicer to see and use, as shown by the Constellation Tea Towels made Holly Muller in Portland, Oregon. Constellations + tea towels = yes. (And 40% off today only from the retailer!)

Index Collection Tea Towels

If you’re interested in color theory, have I got the tea towels for you. Raw Color has created a series of tea towels that explore concepts from graphic design in woven form. From 10% to 100% intensity, each box of color appears to be printed on as a sort of large scale screen key (those little boxes on the sides of printed fabrics), yet each is expressed by altering the fabric weave. It’s the concept of print and traditional weaving combined. There’s also the Index Collection Blankets, which are even more impressive because of the larger scale; they’re available from Raw Color’s website for โ‚ฌ375.

Starry and Cloud Swirl Tea Towels

It’s been a little while since a tea towel has been featured, and for all we know you’re standing there with your hands wet from the sink and nowhere to turn. Not to fret, dry your hands on your shirt and then buy a tea towel or two for all sorts of kitchen mop-ups. Piano Nobile’s Starry and Cloud Swirl Tea Towels are just as good as some of the art on your walls (probably), and the designs are printed with non-toxic ink on a GOTS-certified linen tea towel with neon pink edging.

Arne Jacobsen Tea Towel Set

If you love the work of Arne Jacobsen, you might as well get his typography Tea Towel Set alongside your Jacobsen cups and perhaps the Jacobsen Milk & Sugar Set. Not to worry, I’m sure there are more items to come along- let’s just hope the powers that be don’t go crazy and plaster his 1937 typography over every possible thing (like they did with Pantone).

Color Fest Tea Towel

Fond of geometrically inclined tea towels? Add this to your wish list pronto. Triangular lines with neutral shades and a touch of neon is just what a kitchen needs, or so says those of us partial to such things. Designed by Mae Engelgeer, who does the geometry-meets-textiles category quite well, judging by her other pieces (the Fest collection especially).
