Trivets

Flat Iron Trivet

Speaking of your tabletop needs, do you have enough trivets? You know, those things that protect your table from hot pots and dishes? This one by Claesson Koivisto Rune for Swedish brand Smaller Objects hides two trivets in one- the inner plate rests in the outer ring. Keep it in place for one-dish dinners and storage; lift it out when you need a second surface. A simple and elegant solution, don’t you think?

Rhom Trivet

Your dining table hates hot things, so do it a favor and get a Rhom Trivet by Shane Schneck. It’s made of silicone, so it’ll protect your table’s surface from all sorts of hot trays, dishes, and pans, and its rhombus-inspired shape will do wonders for your design credentials. That’s not a promise, mind you, just a very enthusiastic endorsement of a trivet design.

Outline Trivets

Who needs a trivet? Maybe your dining table, considering Thanksgiving is next month. Better to be prepared than have a big, burnt mark once you clear the table, right? An elegant outline of geometric shapes has been laser cut from smoked oak veneer. Consider all three for a spectactular spread or just one or two for smaller soirees.

House Trivets

This wooden trivet folds into a small, architectural “objet d’art.” That in itself is pretty cute, but it also means that it’d be easy to tuck away in a drawer or on a shelf when not in use. There’s a leather loop for hanging as well. Note: this would make a great housewarming gift for a friend or coworker.

Groove Marble Trivet

Nice! The Groove Trivet from Hallgeir Homstvedt and Muuto meet three essentials: it’s functional, pretty, and affordable. Protect your tabletop and enjoy the etched marble surface as a textured material to contrast with other surfaces. As Muuto (or the retailer) says, “get into the groove!”

Tomnuk Walnut Trivet Tray Set

Why should you care about a walnut trivet tray set? Maybe you shouldn’t, as there are much more important things going on in your life, but your dining table just emailed to let me know that it cares an awful lot about not being burnt from hot pots and pans, and why don’t you stop being a slob and protect your nice furniture? That’s what your table said, basically, word for word. You can stack, nest and store these Walnut Trivets from Tomnuk Design, you can even use them as small trays for snacks and other small sundries.

Loop trivets

Is it a magnet? Nope, it’s a trivet, a solid aluminium (or aluminum, as us Americans say) trivet, to be exact. Heat proof paint in either yellow or matte black finishes off this simple device to protect your tabletop in the most minimal fashion. By Daniel Emma.

Concertina Wood Trivet

Trivets aren’t necessarily exciting, are they? Charged with the task of protecting our tabletops, they’re meant to be covered up with pots and dishes with little thought to their aesthetic value. However, this walnut trivet does a neat trick of extending from a small area to a rather long length, allowing it to fit your feast from one dish to several. It looks like a stack of chopsticks when closed, which is exactly what I thought it was when I saw it in person.

Designed by Sabine Meyer with SidebySide, a studio partnered with Wendelstein Werkstätten, a workshop for the handicapped.

What is it?

What’s this metal mesh thing? I’ll give you a hint: it’s not intended for use as clothing or body armor- though I suppose in a pinch you could try and use it as such if someone comes at you with a rusty sword- instead think of it more as armor for a surface. Do you know? Answer below.

Troika Trivet

There has been a few interesting trivets lately, which is weird considering that trivets aren’t usually paired with that particular adjective, or even talked about outside of specialized kitchen shops. This Troika trivet has embedded rare earth magnets that allow for size variation to fit small or large dishes. Push/pull/snap/slide the Troika to the desired width and know that your tabletop or counter will be safe from hot kettles or serving platters. When not in use, the three identical arms nestle together to fit in a drawer for storage.

Quad Trivet

Who knew a trivet was something to get excited about? It looks, dare I say it, slightly magical in the way it changes shape. The Quad is made from 16 wooden cubes connected by a heat-resistant silicone strip (not magnets, as I had originally assumed). Do take a look at the video below to see it in action, and then figure out if you think $40 is worth backing the project.

Trivet Stick

Y’A PAS LE FEU AU LAC has several pieces in their recent collection worthy of consideration, one of which is this Trivet Stick. A magnetic joint allows it to be used as a triangular trivet for hot pots and pans and then be straightened out to be stored easily with other cooking utensils like spoons and spatulas.

Myria Expandable Trivet

Trivets are one of those things you don’t think much about until you’re wondering how to protect your table with a hot dish in hand. The Myria trivet is made of rectangular stainless steel loops, which gives it a decidedly modern feel, yet the stand out feature is that it’s expandable and foldable. Designed by Anne Boenisch for Carl Mertens.
