Mirrors

Utility Mirror

You know that weird section of your hair on the back of your head? This hand mirror will help you see it, and hopefully fix it, so you won’t look like a bum when you roll into the office each morning. It’s made by polishing a piece of stainless steel to a mirror finish, and then dipping it into an industrial rubber tool grip. You certainly won’t need to worry about breaking it (to clarify, by dropping it) because there’s no glass to break.

XLBoom’s Keywest Mirrored Key Cabinet

Finally, there’s a spot for a mirror and all your family’s keys, wrapped up into one very decent package. A no-fuss painted MDF case features a mirror on the door, so you can check that lovely mug of yours before you head out to face the day. Open the door, and look! So much room and so many hooks, even a persnickety janitor would be pleased.

Silicone Wall Mirrors

These two round mirrors are especially suited to a more casual atmosphere, as their frames are coated in silicone. Think of the larger 20″ mirror above a bathroom sink or console in a hallway. The smaller 6″ size is best hung somewhere handy so you can make sure your face is presentable before you head out the door. And, if you’re not too fond of the ‘Ferrari Red’ color, don’t you worry, there’s also the go-with-everything standbys black and white.

Pyramid and Ring Shape Mirrors

Yes, you’re right, you have seen some of Bower Studio’s Shape Mirrors featured on BLTD before. However, don’t you worry, I’m going to alert you to new designs just as soon as I know about them, because I know you probably are extremely fond of them, even if you can’t quite afford one (yet).

Slide Mirror

Sad news: it looks like there’s not a retailer stateside that carries these mirrors anymore. Happy news: you can buy them directly from the designer, Sylvain Willenz.

If you buy either of these mirrors, you might just have to get the Cuboid Doormat to continue the 3D illusion. Maybe add the Half a Table by Niels Van Eijk & Miriam Van der Lubbe and some seating from Acne for a distinct fun-house vibe.

Clara von Zweigbergk Mirrors

Geometric mirrors that have a friendly price tag? Yes, please. Clara von Zweigbergk has designed a few perspex mirrors for Domestic, and the result is your face reflected on an affordable, decorative frame. Each mirror is around 18″ wide/diameter, and with the $100 price tag, I dare say you’ll be able to find one or two a spot in your home.

Hub Floor Mirror

If you walk out of the door in the morning with your shirt buttoned wrong, you need a floor-length mirror. Luckily, this rubber-rimmed mirror designed by Jordan Murphy and Matt Carr can be placed anywhere thanks to its wooden easel stand, which has a ladder-like back for hanging coats/clothes, accessories, or even towels, if it’s in or near a bathroom. Also, there’s a 36″ diameter wall mirror with the same rim: Hub Mirror, $200 (shown below).

Triangle Mirrors

As is often the case, the question isn’t ‘why do I need a triangle mirror’, the question is ‘why don’t I need a triangle mirror’. After all, you like geometry and you’re decent to look at, right? Hang one (or several) on a wall, or place on any surface for a freestanding reflection. Designed and made by Marvin Freitas.

Fading Mirror

Feeling a little hazy? That’s understandable if you’re gazing into this Fading Mirror by Amsterdam designer Thomas Eurlings, as it has a printed gradient under the glass to give a soft reflection. The smoke-like edging will give you a dreamy, floating image whenever you should happen to pass by… and, good news, it won’t break the bank.

One, Two vs. Adnet Mirror

How about a little mirror rivalry? To be more specific, buckled leather mirror rivalry. Gubi’s Adnet Mirror, above, on the right, has long been admired, but unfortunately its $700-$800 price tag is a bit too high for everyone’s wallet. Now, the mirror on the left is two inches shy of the Adnet’s 18 inch diameter, but it costs considerably less. Any guesses as to the price difference?

Hex Mirror

Maybe you need a little hexagonal mirror for your bathroom? Or what about an empty hallway that could use a wink of light bouncing around? Perhaps a lonely wall needs an equilateral kind of friend to keep it company? You’re sure to find the right spot for such a perfectly sized mirror, and if you don’t, just send it over to me and I’ll give it a home. Designed (and sold) by DANIEL EMMA.

Infinity Rose Square Mirror

What’s better than a square mirror? A rose square mirror, because you can finally take off those ridiculous tinted glasses you’re always wearing and just stare into the mirror instead. It’s a sure thing that a rose mirror is a different way to throw light around a room, and it will no doubt add a little bronze edginess to an interior. Available in a square, $149, or narrow version, $129.

Fold Mirror

You might think a mirror is just a mirror, but that would be underestimating how much a small tweak can change a rather ordinary item. Marie Thurnauer has bent the Fold Mirror slightly away from the wall to give different views and angles of a room. The image above (from domus) with the Fold Mirrors en masse shows their potential dynamicity, and has me, at least, thinking about ordering at least three.

Mirror #180

Need a mirror? Consider this one with two mirror halves spliced and bent to give you different perspectives. There are three positions to consider, so you’ll have fun figuring out which angle catches the best light or spot in the room. Could be a clever choice for a powder room or other small spaces.
