Eau Carafe

Similar to black + blum’s ‘Eau Good’ Filter Water Bottle, this Eau Carafe is the ideal candidate for storing water in your fridge. A binchotan active charcoal filter purifies the water while the overall shape is pleasing to hold and pour from; it’s even nice enough to keep it out during dinner. You can’t say that for many water purifiers.

Mail Slot Bowl by Dan Sjogren

No matter how neat and clutter free we attempt to be, there’s still a fair amount of mail, keys, and miscellany that follow us through our front doors. To conquer this choas, consider the Mail Slot Bowl by Dan Sjogren. It will keep your most recent paper correspondence lined up neatly in a row. Will it force you to take stock of which documents go to the recycle bin and which go to the filing drawer? Eh, maybe. It also has a reasonably sized bowl to park your keys, which might mean you’ll never lose them again. We can hope.

Cymbal Pendant

Well, what do we have here? It’s a very simple pendant that uses the light bulb as support for the shades. Aluminum disks diffract the light and trick your eye with reflections of its environment. Does it remind you a little of the Grain Pendant by Brendan Ravenhill? It’s the same sort of idea, and a little more affordable at that.

Felt Bedside Caddy

In theory, it’s probably best to reduce the amount of bedside clutter or get a bigger nightstand than add in an extra little pocket caddy. However, if you absolutely have to have all your stuff (and you can’t find the right nightstand) then maybe it’s okay to get this little guy. Temporarily. Technically, it fits sofas as well, but, please, please, please try to avoid that usage by any means necessary- unless you can hide it behind a cushion or next to a wall. Why? Because this. Avoid that association, or else you’ll cause significant aesthetic discomfort*.

Giant Coloring Roll by Jeff Koons

Love or hate Jeff Koons, you’ve got to agree a $30 giant coloring roll is a good idea for almost anyone. Pin it on the wall or roll it out on the floor for hours of meditative coloring- at home or in the office. There’s a roll by Keith Haring, too, if that’s a better fit for your aesthetic sensibilities*. Should you wish to use a paintbrush instead of markers and pencils, be sure to consider the Large Paint Tin Set with Haring imagery ($22) as an accompaniment. Fun!

Awair Air Quality Monitor

It’s a little sad when an air quality monitor is considered a useful tool to have in the home. However, for those of us that live urban areas or have annoying allergies, we can’t ignore the fact that air quality directly affects our health. So, meet the Awair Air Quality Monitor. It reads five data points in the air: temperature, humidity, CO2, VOCs, and dust. After analyzing aggregate levels, the air quality is determined and an Awair Score (0 to 100 color-coded scale) is assigned. Tell it what concerns you the most (allergies, sleep, etc.) and it will give you recommendations (via the app) on certain changes you might make based on daily air quality levels in specific rooms.

Shades Double Glass Container

It’s not often that a storage container gets ooo’s and ahh’s, but this one deserves at least one of the former for its smart two-tier system. Hand blown glass containers nest together to create separate storage zones with a cork lid to keep contents safe. Store a few visually engaging objects in the top container for a floating effect, or go full-on functional and fill both with necessary home accessories. The gold and black or grey and orange color options certainly make a statement, or, of course, choose the clear glass for a quieter look.

Hay’s Tower Blocks Paper Notes

If you’re going to keep track of your to-do’s (and to-don’ts?) on paper, you might as well make that paper pretty to look at. HAY Denmark has all sorts of lovely offerings in the way of home furnishings and accessories, and we’ll just be thankful that they took the time to apply some great graphics to stacks of note paper. (Now priced at half of their original price, it’s easier to get a few instead of just one on its own.)

Animal Mask Notecards

Animal Mask Notecards! Fun, fun, and fun. Each and every recipient of your heartfelt scribblings will get twice the amount of enjoyment from whatever sentiments you share, because they’ll have a mask as well. Maybe they’ll even attempt to make the appropriate noise for the animal, because if you’re going to wear the mask, you’ve got to pretend to be the animal, right? I think those are the rules.

Hex Cutting Board

Shoot, I’m such a sucker for geometric anything. Simply facet the edges of an American Maple wood board and I’m already contemplating plonking down a credit card, no matter how many cutting boards already reside in my kitchen cabinets. Now, the faceted edges do make the board easier to pick up (on one side), so it is actually a functional feature as well as a stylistic choice.

Cocentric Flush Dome

Prepare yourself, for this dome lighting fixture isn’t what most of us would call affordable. However, it is handcrafted on a lathe (take note of the perfect concentric grooves) and is available in several different American hardwoods. Plus, it can either be positioned on the wall or the ceiling, so you’re not locked in to just one location.

Dusen Dusen Sheet Sets

What might you pair with your new Hay Polygon Quilt? How about Dusen Dusen’s Alphabet or Objects Sheet Set? Yes, that makes for a lot of shapes and pattern, but that’s what makes a bed fun… riight? I’m pretty crazy about all the accompanying throw pillows but they’re all sold out. Sad face. The throws are so good they’ll need their own post, so stay tuned.

Nanoleaf LED Light Bulbs

Have you seen any of the Nanoleaf LED light bulbs yet? What about the Nanoleaf Smart Ivy? Most LED light bulbs are not attractive, and the Nanoleaf isn’t particularly pretty either. However, it is faceted (=dodecahedron) with tiny LED lights in the shape of a regular bulb, and that makes it interesting. There are different variations in size and color, plus the Smart version mentioned before, which you can control wirelessly via your device. Kinda fun, huh?

Hay Polygon Quilt

A reversible, two-tone polygon quilt? Yes and yes. I personally own the Mega Dot Quilt from Hay, and it’s the perfect weight for summer use. Now that they’ve added polygons to the mix, it’s certainly tempting… you can never have too many quilts, right? Blue, Charcoal, and Olive available from MoMA Store; Powder, Mint Green and Black available from Danish Design Store; all colors available from The Modern Shop ($CAD).
