Soma Black Pitcher

Soma has just released a limited edition Pitcher in black, and doesn’t it look nice? Just like the carafe, the lid features a pour-through lid that automatically opens when you add water. The all-natural filters are biodegradable, and you can choose to have them delivered every 2 months for $12.99 each, with free shipping. Oh, and if you want to feel better about yourself, know that every purchase includes a $15 donation to global water projects.

Hay Punched Organizers

A little perforated pattern won’t harm your kitchen or desktop, for it adds a little punch of organization with its tidy grids- maybe subconsciously it will encourage you to get your ducks in a row, so to speak. Perhaps your kitchen utensils will sit nicely in the larger holder, or maybe your pens will be at home in the low tray, either way, it always helps to have a couple of containers around to confine necessary clutter.

Noguchi’s Light Sculptures

This is just a reminder, if you’ve forgotten, that Isamu Noguchi’s table light sculptures are very affordable. Case in point, the Table Lamp Model 1AG you see above, comes in at $145. My other favorite, the Floor Lamp Model UF3-Q, isn’t so incredibly affordable ($525), but it’s still worth considering as a collector’s item that provides a wonderful, diffused light.

Maple Wood Utensil Set

Did you know that the closed grain of maple wood will not absorb any flavors or bacteria? That makes it an excellent material for cooking utensils in the kitchen, and looky here, here’s a set that includes a spatula, spoon, straining spoon, and tongs- what more do you need? Each piece in this set is hand carved from a block of locally-sourced wood in an Indiana workshop.

Wool Throws by Arthur Arbesser

Staying warm this winter is as simple as having a good wool throw in the immediate vicinity of your sofa, bed, or desk (if your workplace is casual). Hem has a new wool throw collection by fashion designer Arthur Arbesser, and dare we say that each pattern and colorway is both modern and fun, and absolutely perfect for almost any interior. Might this be a good gift idea for someone with perpetually cold feet and hands? Hmm…

Poketo Design Planners

We can avoid thinking about 2016 all we want, but that won’t do anything to postpone its arrival. Might as well prepare yourself by thinking about a new planner for the new year, right? Poketo has a fresh collection of open-dated planners, with weekly and monthly pages ready to start whenever you’d like. I chose the large Mon Cahier Planner myself, but this latest group would fit into a bag much easier for on-the-go planning. Plus, the fun covers are a definite bonus.

Dux Brass Pencil Sharpener

Do you use pencils? Do you have a plastic pencil sharpener? Pfft. Toss it in the recycling bin, because this one is much better. Made of solid brass, the Dux sharpener is built to last. The weight of it alone would keep it from getting lost/shuffled around with your other desk tools, but there’s no guarantee that it wouldn’t walk away with a coworker with sticky fingers, so watch out.

Nambu Cast Iron Tea Pot

Designed by Makoto Koizumi, the Nambu Cast Iron Tea Pot is made using traditional craftsmanship in the Iwate Prefecture of Japan. That craftsmanship goes back to the middle of the 17th century, so rest assured that this kettle will last for generations, and look exceptionally good while providing your daily cup or pot of tea. And, should you need an extra skillet or pan, have a look at the other Nambu pieces.

Tafla Mirrors

Remember the Plopp Stool? Well, that kind of manufacturing process (called FiDU, by the way: ‘Freielnnen Druck Umformung’ = ‘free inner pressure deformation’) isn’t going to just be confined to seating, thank goodness, as that would be a crying shame. Just look at the Tafla Mirrors. Are they not stupendous? Are they not stunning? They’re certainly not cheap (understandably), but man-oh-man, are they spectacular.

Concrete Brain Bookends

Braaiiins!! Feel free to pretend you’re a zombie, and walk around disjointedly with your arms extended and your head cocked to the side whilst saying that, as it’s entirely appropriate. Just don’t bite into this particular brain, as the two hemispheres are made of concrete. Designer Bertrand Jayr brings these smart bookends to our bookshelves- they’re excellent pieces of heavy ‘gray matter’ to hold your books in place.

Grid and Rain Table Linens by Sylvain Willenz

Need I remind you that Thanksgiving is right around the corner? I know, I know, there’s too much to think about, and you just don’t have the space in your brain to consider how your dining table will look. After all, who cares about food presentation and the overall aesthetics of your home? Oh, wait, you care. Darn it.

So, take a look at the collection of table linens from Hem. You can basically close your eyes, point at any pattern, add to cart, and voilà! Your table will look fantastic, as the patterns are modern and simple and will set off your food fabulously. Plus, they’re not holiday-centric, so you can use them year round.

Aarre Wall Jewels

Pretty, aren’t they? The Aarre Wall Jewels collection is made by skilled artisans in the Iittala factory. Every single one is mouth-blown, so consider them each as a unique piece of art. Perhaps you’ll just need one to hang your beloved Leica, or perhaps a trio would do the trick of organizing your oft-worn coat and scarves. Fair warning: they’re not inexpensive, so don’t get too entranced by the jewel-like colors, or else you’ll blow your whole budget.

Geo Thermos

Hello Geo. Nice sharp edges sure set this guy apart from the usual thermos. And the colors (!), that geometric shape, the semi-retro design… who would have thought that a thermos could draw such an admiring audience? The Geo thermos holds one liter and comes in the colors purple, grey, black, white, red and turquoise.

Wrong for Hay Cork Cone and Magnetic Tower

Need a place for odd notes, photos and other such sundries? Consider Wrong For Hay’s Cork Cone, as it has plenty of room for a vertical tower of pinnables.
