Boskke Cube Planter

Here’s a planter that alludes to the traditional shape of the humble terra cotta pot, however, rather than hiding the dirt and roots, it puts the plant’s root system on display for all to see. And, there’s a handy function not immediately apparent: the clear body also acts as a water reservoir that supplies up to four weeks of water.

Snappgrip

Nice! Now your iPhone can have real shooting controls thanks to Snappgrip. It mounts to a protective phone case so you can use it when you want (and detach it when you don’t). The Snappgrip has a Shooting Mode, Portrait, Landscape, Flash, Video, Zoom In, and Zoom Out functions, plus a standard tripod mount on the underside and a standby power switch. How’s that for bridging the gap between smartphone photography and more expensive cameras?

Idle vs. Skiff

Here’s an interesting match up in the world of modern/minimal sun loungers: one of these is $899 and the other is $299. If you’re a stickler for details, you’ll probably notice a few subtle design clues to help you assess which one has the higher/lower price tag, and, as usual, the call on which lounger you like best is completely up to your discerning/nondiscerning eye (and wallet).

Turn Around Juicer

If you don’t mind using a little old fashioned elbow grease to produce your morning orange juice, then you’ll want to consider the simplicity of this wooden juicer from KiBiSi and Muuto. The Turn Around Juicer stands on its own and fits the palm nicely. Shall I point out that this won’t need any updating as years come and go, unlike other electrical juicers? Plus, the juice will taste all the more sweeter knowing you made it yourself (and burned some calories whilst doing so).

TON Chair 77

$99! No, that’s not an April Fool’s joke, that is the actual price of this chair originally designed by the legendary Czech furniture maker Michael Thonet. Recognize the name? Thonet is known for his iconic bentwood chairs in 1861, and TON updates the original design with a slim, rectangular backrest and a few gentle curves that show off the subtle flair possible with steam-bending techniques.

Omnioutil Basket [Bucket]

Yes, it’s a bucket, which doesn’t sound very exciting, but it’s also a basket and a stool, and that versatile array of functions means it’s pretty suitable for any home. As a stool with the lid in place, they support up to 331 pounds (150 kg). Fill the Omnioutil Basket with garden stuff, toys, water/ice, recycling…or, my favorite, use the hole in the handle to thread a hose- perfect for outside clean up or washing the car.

You’ve most likely already seen the Conceal Bookshelf, and know of its apparently magic floating effect, and now you can trick the eye with the Vertical Display version. That’s right, make books float against your wall with just a simple bracket and voilà! cover art is displayed where everyone can see it.

My Writing Desk

Is this a smart idea or what? My Writing Desk by Inesa Malafej has an outer edge or ‘wings’ to catch papers and books, not to mention all the other small desk debris that wants to jump off the surface of your worktop. The higher edges also help make the desk feel like a mini-room or microclimate, enveloping you amongst your precious things so you can concentrate and be brilliant at whatever task you attempt. Also available in a smaller size.

Romo Coat Hanger

Does this coat hanger remind you of the basalt columns at Giant’s Causeway? The answer is yes, whether you knew about the hexagonal stepping stones before I gave you the Wikipedia link or not. Designed and fabricated by Dan Romo, owner of Oakland-based Studio Romo, the Romo Coat Hanger is made of solid, cold-rolled steel and has magnetic covers to hide wall anchor bolts (a small-yet-very-nice detail).

Chanto Container

Why, yes, this compact container is just the thing to house your smaller items. Takumi Shimamura’s Chanto Containers are easily stacked, which makes them a good choice for office or kitchen (yes, you may store food in them) but it’s the sliding fluorescent lid that gives each curved cube its striking appearance.

    Stick-Up Monthly Planner

If you had one of these Stick-Up Monthly Planners you could keep better track of certain events like Mother’s Day in the UK this Sunday (Mother’s Day in the US is May 11, sorry if my post yesterday confused you). And, in true Poketo style, the planner is open dated so you can use it whenever you wish. In busy months, write down important events and stick the page on a mirror or wall so you won’t forget. And, of course, there’s always the Stick-Up Weekly Calendar ($10) if you need more detail.
