Happy Thanksgiving!

We’re taking the rest of the week off to spend time with friends and family. Here’s hoping that your Thanksgiving is better than you hope, and that you get your fill of turkey (or another seasonally appropriate alternative) and all the other wonderful stuff. We’ll be back next week with gifts aplenty.

Ding Enameled Cast Iron Casserole with Stand

I know next to nothing about cooking, but I sure know a handsome casserole dish when I see one. Made from cast iron (which is very efficient at retaining heat), the dish has a flat base that sits easily on an oven rack or stovetop with a separate stand (and non-slip silicone pads) to raise the dish for tabletop serving. Those of you familiar with the the ancient Chinese tradition of “Ding” will notice that this piece shares some similarities in shape; think of it as a modern update to some of the world’s oldest cookware.

The Palmerston Stool

Here’s another excellent option for a counter stool, straight from Coolican & Company. Handcrafted from solid Black Walnut (harvested on the Niagara Escarpment), the counter height stool has a classic turned leg with an interesting faceted top for comfort. The pared down styling makes it a future classic, as it would work well with many other design periods. The price is pretty reasonable too- or, at least not crazy expensive considering some of our other favorites.

Stelton RigTig Easy Kitchenware

Spatulas, sticks, tongs, and spoons- do you have everything you need for your Thanksgiving feast? The ‘Easy’ collection for Rig-Tig by Stelton hits the right spot for minimalist kitchenware. You’d best figure in rush shipping for any online orders, though, as you you’re cutting it awfully close for cut-off dates (we don’t want you to have to serve your sweet potatoes with your hands, now, do we?).

Pinson Carafe

This carafe by designer Céline Frébault (in collaboration with the Sentou gallery) incorporates a rather odd beaker-like handle, which fills when the carafe is full. As far as carafes go, it’s definitely got a high end (semi-mad-scientist?) look… any guesses as to the price? Is it $50, $100, $200?

AuraBox Clock Speaker

Is this little light-box unnecessary? Yes. Do you need it? No, not really. Is it fun? Definitely. Think of the AuraBox as a desktop digital art piece. You can pair it with your phone/device’s notification system to receive instant on-screen alerts for calls, texts, or social media updates. Make your own drawings or animations via the app or use any of the ready-made alerts. It’s also useful: make hands-free calls using the built-in microphone, use it as an indoor thermometer, or use it as an alarm clock with a customized music and light show. See what I mean by ‘fun’?

Simone Table and Bench

If you’re looking for a super-minimal table or bench, you might like the looks of the Simone Collection by 57st. design. Double-thick Baltic birch plywood has dovetailed ends (spaced in irregular intervals) for visual interest and overall strength. The short or long bench would do well in an entryway or hallway, and won’t break the bank, thankfully. Free shipping, too, just in case that sweetens the deal.

Lock Climber Carabiner Key

Remember the Carabiner Key? This is the newer version, and it looks just a little more robust, don’t you think? Clip your key to other key rings, a bag, or your own belt loop and know it will stay securely fastened until you unclip it. Such a smart detail.

Snowe Drink Essentials Set

Bargain glassware has one thing going for it: bargain pricing. But it’s not such a bargain if the glassware breaks after a couple of uses, right? Here’s a drinkware set that’s durable, elegant, and rather affordable. A set of four glasses are paired with a tall carafe; all are made in Italy of lead-free crystallized glass that is both ultra-clear and break resistant. Quality and beauty combined? Yes, please. This might be an excellent gift, by the way- you may want to bookmark it for a nice housewarming or holiday gift option.

It’s that time of the year when stacks of logs in your living room are entirely permissible… unless you don’t have a fireplace, that is, because then you’ll just look like a hoarder. This Mixrack is a simple frame of powder-coated steel that can accommodate firewood, wine bottles, or magazines. As long as you keep the stack tidy and avoid any other compulsive gathering of multiple materials, it’s an excellent way to store whatever you choose in a minimal way.

Hummingbird Foldable Bike

A folding bike that weighs the same as two cats? For reals? The Hummingbird Bike is the lightest folding bike on the market, thanks to its carbon fibre frame and smart design. It weighs in at 6.5 kilograms (that’s 14.33 pounds)- pretty impressive. After all, is there anyone sane who enjoys lugging their bike up stairs after they’ve pedaled for miles and miles? Or finding a spot in the office where it’s not in the way? No, of course not. The Hummingbird solves both those issues, as you can easily carry and fold it up, making it ideal for city commutes and even longer routes that involve public transportation.
