Shelving/Storage

Haze Vitrine

If you are disorganized, and tend to stuff any available storage cabinet with everything in haphazard way, then just ignore the Haze Vitrine. If you are organized, and tend to neatly stack and arrange items, then this Vitrine was made for you. Textural armored glass hazily hides the details of what’s stored inside, while sleek powder coated metal gives an industrial edge. Think of it for a storage space for dinnerware in the dining room or for towels and beauty essentials in the bathroom.

Want Shelf

Treat your books, art, or tchotchkes right with the Want Shelf by Andrew Coslow’s studio. The interior is kept at a natural wood grain (with protective clear coat) while the outside is finished in a white wash. The warm wood grain guides your eye towards the items on the shelf, while the end caps seemingly give them a protective embrace- no bookends necessary.

Tab Shelf by Phil Procter

Sure, it’s a shelf, what of it? Well, this powder-coated steel shelf has a ridge down the middle to keep photos and art propped up as well as a lip on the front. That allows you to display all sorts of things without worrying about little (or big) things falling off, which makes it suitable for anywhere you need an extra display or storage space.

Clad 3 Door Credenza

Warm, solid wood wrapped in cool, smooth steel sounds like a match made in heaven. Add storage to the mix and you’ve got us hooked. The Clad 3 Door Credenza is right at the 2 grand price point (walnut is just over; hickory, just under), which is pretty reasonable considering the sturdy and sleek materials. Integrated groove pulls keeps surfaces clean while soft closure mechanisms keeps things quiet. There’s a smaller 2 Door Credenza if you’re short on space. And, even better, the Clad Collection is from Blu Dot, which is has a 20% off sale from now through October 30.

Oak Blackbird Sideboard Tall

Every once in a while there’s a furniture or accessory item that makes me wish I had a totally empty house, just so I could start with one piece and build outwards, completely tailoring the whole house around one single aesthetic. Ethnicraft’s Oak Blackbird Sideboard is one of those pieces, to be sure, as its black outline neatly delineates its stack of natural oak doors, compartments and drawers. How could one be messy with this sideboard sitting in one’s dining or living room? (I’m sure you’ll try, but I’ll roll my eyes and shake my finger at you if I see even one little paper out of place.)

Billy II Box

Need more storage space for paperwork? You could get a ho-hum boring rolling file from an office supply store, or you could shell out a little more dough for one that actually looks like a fair amount of design thought went into its creation. Ethnicraft’s Universo Positivo collection has caught our eye before, and their Billy II Box stands out for its combination of solid oak and lacquered stainless steel. A large opening in the back accommodates cords (not apparent in the picture above, fyi) while one drawer provides just enough space for essentials. Need a stack of drawers instead? Consider the Oak or Walnut Billy Box.

Commune Storage Bench

One of the more exciting things to happen in the furniture retail world this month is the arrival of Commune’s collection over at West Elm. I won’t bother with talking about how this represents a shift in design sense or quality, because hopefully that will knock you over the head once you look at the pieces up close. The piece I’m most excited about is the Storage Bench, mostly because it has a mid century vibe with its black and white sliding doors and removable leather cushion. You’ll most likely see the rest of the collection (at least the Sling Chair and Marble-Topped Coffee Table) featured here on our site over the next couple of weeks, as they’re great deals to be had*.

Kai Shelving by Jean Louis Iratzoki for Treku

Does this shelving remind you a tiny bit of the New Order Shelving by Stefan Diez? Maybe a little? It’s similar in that it has dividers and optional panels that can be moved around to suit your preferences. Each shelving unit comes with two movable dividers, one back panel, and one storage box with push latch. Each unit is fully finished on all sides- you know what that means, don’t you? Yep, you can float one in the middle of a room to separate and define a space.

10×10 Shelves

Now, fair warning, this pair of shelves isn’t cheap. However, each 10×10 shelf may be installed in either orientation, which gives you a variety of arrangements suitable in many locations throughout your home. Maybe your office needs an extra ledge, or a spot to put extra books? Perhaps your bathroom needs more storage space for lotions, or all those beauty potions? There you go, two problems solved with one set of shelves. And, if you’re thinking that the 24″ length is a tad too small, you’ll be happy to hear that custom sizing (and wood species and finishes) are available.

Cubist Shelf Small and Large

Don’t get too attached to the way these shelves are displayed; turn them around any ol’ way to get just the right look. Both the vessel and shelf tray are removable, so you’ve got quite a few options when it comes to which way is up. Use the cup for a planter (it has a plastic insert) or as a pencil holder. Place one on a desk or hang several on the wall with the provided brackets.

Marmeria Modular Bookcase

See this small, sculptural piece of marble? It sits at just under 16″ high, and could function as a shorter side table alongside your favorite chair. However, Italian architecture firm Studio Archea intended this piece, along with its three other siblings, to compose a larger, modular bookcase.

Plus Concrete Modular Storage Solution

Set your mind to modular mode, and you’ll see that the Plus collection is a solution to your storage woes. Three concrete cubes can be combined in different ways to make furniture; there’s a single storage cube that can also be used as a seat, a longer bench, and a larger square table. Build a bookcase, a console, or just have one as a side table and/or seat. I’m sure you’ll have fun moving and stacking them into various configurations… although they are a little heavy, so you’ll be building muscle mass every time you shuffle them around.
