Keep Table

Why are you seeing the image of an artfully messy room? Because of the table, of course. As you can probably tell with your keen eyes, the Keep Table from Muuto is made from pieces of wood held together with metal bands. You’ll be happy to hear that those pieces of are leftovers from wood furniture production, and because of this, each table is unique. Winner of Muuto’s 2009 Talent Award, the Keep Table was a senior project of design students Petter Thörne and Anders Johnsson from Konstfack School of Design in Stockholm.

Marmoreal Collection by Max Lamb

Like the look of this side table? Well, tough, you can’t have it. Just kidding, you can have it, you just need to fork over $3Gs for it. Marmoreal is an engineered, multipurpose marble developed by Max Lamb (and facilitated by Dzek), and is comprised of large chunks of Italian marble fragments— in the palette of green, red, ochre, and white you see above. It’s stronger than natural marble as polyester resin bonds the material together. You might hate it, you might love it, but one thing’s for sure, it will certainly set the tone in whatever room it’s in. A few more pieces of the collection shown below.

Cedric Walnut Desk

If you’ve a decent budget to spend on a desk, turn your eyes toward the Cedric. Rounded edges provide subtle detailing, giving it a quiet craftsmanship that makes it the sort of piece you’d pass down to the next generation. Primary Desk by Nathan Yong

This Primary Desk is an odd sort of fellow with its angles and points and slim drawers. Inspired by mid-century furniture in the designer’s childhood, the desk hits a mark somewhere in between classic and futuristic, which isn’t an easy target, to be sure. Solid walnut makes for a sturdy frame with just enough worktop space for a small computer and writing area, and five drawers are available to squirrel away odds and ends. There’s also another thoughtful detail worth mentioning: the angle of the top drawers allow for the pitch of an open laptop. Now 15% off (until July 31).

Holy Stool and Candy Table

This colorful table and stool by UM Project would be a great choice for occasional tables. Whether you choose to go monochrome or mix colors, the duo-tone finish would add interest and warmth to a room. It’d be smart to use the sturdy stools as side tables for daily use and then as extra seating when you have a few more guests than chairs.

Degree Table Unit

Any piece of furniture that incorporates cork into its design has my attention, and this table by Patrick Norguet for Kristalia is no exception. A removable table top/lid means it is also a storage piece, and that’ll no doubt be useful wherever it ends up. You have a few options: white or black rotational polypropylene, with or without a genuine cork coating; white, black, or cork lid, all in either round or square.

3 Leg Table

You won’t like the price tag, but you will probably grow to like- or even love- Wrk-shp’s 3 Leg Table. It’s a little quirky but also entirely minimal and simple in its approach to providing a surface and a light. Three steel legs, one of which houses the fabric covered cord of the light fixture, balance the console-sized wood top, resulting in a perfect piece to live in an entryway or hallway. Concrete facing on the drawer and feet adds further interest to the mix of materials.

You and Me Ping Pong Table

Pingpong anyone? Imagine special meals around this dining table: a nice dinner with the family, then bring out the net and it’s every man/woman for himself/herself. The first serve goes straight into the mashed potatoes and the second hits your Uncle (accidentally, of course, he got in the way when he was clearing the dishes) because you were overzealous with your best backhand stroke. You can’t let [insert annoying relative] win, now, can you?

All this fun can be had with the You and Me Ping Pong Table, a standard-size pingpong table that doubles as a dining table. And,it gets better: this table is appropriate for both indoors and out. A hidden drawer keeps the net, balls, and paddles tucked away when not in use with a little extra room for napkins and a tablecloth. Keep in mind this could also be a conference room table for your office; solve interoffice disputes with a game! And, it’s now available in black! So sleek.

V.Stand

This small V.Stand is not for your backside, but for any little thing weighing up to 20 pounds. That shouldn’t be a surprise once you find out that it’s made from lightweight corrugated plastic and weighs less than a pound. Maybe set a drink upon its surface, or a small stack of books… or a cat? You name it, as long as it’s not too terribly heavy, this stand will keep it off the floor and within reaching distance of your favorite chair/bed/beanbag/chaise lounge. You could even stack a few for an art-ish sculptural column in that lonely corner of your home. Handmade in designer Jae Won Choor’s (“J1”) L.A. furniture studio.

Alex Building System

What’s the deal with this jumble of junctions and thumb screws? It’s the Alex Building System, and you’re going to have a lot of fun if you like putting things together with your own two hands, no tools needed. Various junctions can be tightened with the thumb screws onto wood sections to create anything your brain can dream up; coffee tables, consoles, side tables, shelving systems, etc. And, man, talk about the clean design- can you believe those joints look as nice as they do? It won’t be cheap no matter what size item you plan to build, but the possibilities are endless, so you may alter it as your needs change, and that makes the system worth every penny.

Yeh Wall Table

If you’re short on space, you’ll want to take a look at this Yeh Wall Table by Taiwan-based designer, Kenyon Yeh. Inspired by the position of someone sitting against a wall with their feet placed firmly on the ground, Yeh created this two-legged table that rests against the wall with the help of a small, upturned 90-degree angle on its edge. Next to the bed, in a hallway, or beside any sitting surface, this small table won’t take up much room, yet will provide just enough space for the essential lamp, stack of books, or coffee cup.
