Refold’s Portable Cardboard Standing Desk

What’s this stack of cardboard? It’s a standing desk from Refold, and it’s “flexible, foldable, portable, affordable & 100% recyclable.” Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? If you’d like to try the standing desk option without buying an expensive desk replacement then this would be a good way to try it out. Or, maybe you just move around a lot, and need an easy-to-move surface. Either way, check it out over on Kickstarter.

Asplund Tati Desk

Minimal/modern desks are hard to find, especially when storage is a necessity. I’ve been on a search for an update to my own home office desk, and while this Asplund Tati Desk lacks the file drawer I so desperately need, it does possess the slender, sleek lines and no-fuss styling that I’ve been after. So, if you’re organized enough (i.e.completely paperless) to not need several deep storage drawers, then this little desk might just be a good fit.

Muuto Around Tables

The aim of Thomas Bentzen’s Around Table for Muuto is functional simplicity. The tables are meant to be stable, durable, and the raised edge keeps coffee cups and drinks right where they belong. As Bentzen says, “around thus forms a practical and welcoming place to gather.” A small opening in the edge accommodates power cords, and, better yet, it’s currently on sale from DWR.

Trip Cartoon Coffee Table by Seletti

A serious interior is fine for some, but a little bit of humor goes a long way to making a space feel more inviting. This coffee table by Seletti has hand drawn lines around its edges that give an appearance of being plucked straight from a cartoon. Put it next to a very severe upholstered piece and suddenly the room says ‘hey, come sit down and relax’ instead of ‘be quiet and don’t touch anything.’

Kreten Side table

This amorphous Kreten Side Table by Souda owes its shape to stretch fabric. Concrete is poured into a stretchy fabric mold, creating a slightly different form each time. With such a distinctive shape (some might say odd personality) this table could be mistaken for an art piece, but do be sure to use it now and then as a table, or else it would feel unloved. Choose between four different hues.

Powder-Coated Steel Folding Table

Folding tables, ick. They never look good and they’re so very tacky… right? Wrong! There’s one folding table that actually looks decent, and sort of cheery, thanks to its bright green color. Designed by Benjamin Luddy and Makoto Mizutani, this Steel Folding Table has detachable legs and may be used wherever you need an extra impromptu surface- indoors or outside. You can even hang it on the wall for storage and double the function by using it as a message center with magnets and dry erase markers. Smart.

Trace Coffee Table by Tom Dixon

What is this lovely thing before us? It’s a coffee table by Tom Dixon and it’s strange enough to catch our eyes and have us thinking a glass coffee table is a good idea. The thinly printed stripes intersect at different angles depending upon our perspective, and that creates an interesting sort of moiré pattern. Made from UV‑bonded sheet glass, the Trace Coffee Table is designed for domestic or contract use.

Keep Table

Why are you seeing the image of an artfully messy room? Because of the table, of course. You’ll be happy to hear that those pieces of are leftovers from wood furniture production, and because of this, each table is unique. Winner of Muuto’s 2009 Talent Award, the Keep Table was a senior project of design students Petter Thörne and Anders Johnsson from Konstfack School of Design in Stockholm.

Marmoreal Collection by Max Lamb

Like the look of this side table? Well, tough, you can’t have it. Just kidding, you can have it, you just need to fork over $3Gs for it. Marmoreal is an engineered, multipurpose marble developed by Max Lamb (and facilitated by Dzek), and is comprised of large chunks of Italian marble fragments— in the palette of green, red, ochre, and white you see above. It’s stronger than natural marble as polyester resin bonds the material together. You might hate it, you might love it, but one thing’s for sure, it will certainly set the tone in whatever room it’s in. A few more pieces of the collection shown below.
