Speaking of height-adjustable desks, if you want something that looks less like a keyboard stand and more like an antique worktop, turn your eyes towards the Adler Table. It has a hand-operated crank, made from solid steel gears and a chromed, cast iron handle. Any piece of furniture that incorporates cork into its design has my attention, and this table by Patrick Norguet for Kristalia is no exception. A removable table top/lid means it is also a storage piece, and that’ll no doubt be useful wherever it ends up. Well, seeing as this concrete table weighs almost 100 pounds, you’ll not want to move it around much, but it’s a relief to see that it has an affordable price tag of $254. The rounded shape will soften up all those sharp edges of your other furniture, inside or out. And, chances are that this table will require less upkeep than other pieces- though don’t go tempting fate by pouring red wine or other colorful drinks over it. There’s been a lot of talk in the last year or two about the health benefits of standing while you work, but unfortunately there hasn’t been a lot of excellent options when it comes to height adjustable desks. That’s why this X-table is a welcome sight for our sore eyes and backsides. A hand-operated crank adjusts the work top from 25″ to 47.25″, so you’ll be able to change the height rather easily should you wish to switch from standing to sitting. There’s also a handy cable management space on the underside to hide messy computer cords.

At first glance, this desk reminded me of the Stash Desk by Blu Dot, but after taking a second look, it’s really not a fair comparison due to the dimensions. Sure, the Stash desk is a winner for its price and simplicity, but this desk is super sleek and has an additional 20″ in length for desktop space. Just take a look at it in another color and you’ll understand the price tag.

I still have a deep affection for the Howard Stool, and surprise, surprise, it blinded me to the other perforated steel tables and benches that RAD has to offer. Coffee tables, benches, entry tables, smaller stools and side tables- they have a pretty good array of sizes to suit your needs. A few versions are shown below, and keep in mind there are several different colors to choose from.

The very title ‘mobile media table’ is enough to induce an eye roll, as it conjures all sorts of questionable design. However, as the weather gets nicer, and as we begin to enjoy the outdoors with our laptops/tablets/phones, a need for a smaller, portable table does arise. Wood (coffee table) + chevron parquet + simple iron base = no brainer. Parquetry seems to have been making a comeback with a few interiors featuring the old school look to its best advantage (a few bookmarked images on tumblr). All good news, of course, but if you can’t actually install those lovely patterned floors in your own space, you can certainly apply the technique to a coffee table top. This particular table is made of sustainable shesham wood and is left unfinished, so do be careful with your colorful beverages.

A floating wall desk for under a grand might sound as likely as a hipster who’s never considered ironic facial hair, but stranger things have happened. The floating wall desk by Dario Antonioni is just under the $700 mark and has a full slide out tray to double your work area. There’s also a small wire management slot to keep your cords tidy. Need it be emphasized that you’ll have to follow the installation instructions correctly or you’ll have a small disaster at hand? If you’re not particularly handy, enlist help before tackling it on your own.

Perhaps you should take this desk’s name in reference to Mantises being highly visual organisms that are skilled in mimicry rather than their tendency for occasional sexual cannibalism, for the Mantis Desk does successfully blend in as a simple, modern workspace by hiding all manner of cables (via a discreet cable management system) and providing just enough space for notes and office supplies (see noteboard and drawer- there’s a double bookend as well). In multiples or alone, this desk would do well in keeping your officemates- or just you- organized and on task.
