Coffee Tables

Moon Tables

Sleek! These Moon Tables from Ethnicraft’s Universo Positivo collection strikes the right note with their solid oak tops and lacquered stainless steel sides. The slight rim helps corral any miscellany- not that you have any- and the materials give a refined feel to a rather simple, no-frills design.

Mesh Coffee Table

Sometimes you want a piece of furniture that strikes just the right note of quiet edginess. Restrained, yet still a little odd in some way. I’d say this Mesh Coffee Table by Bowles & Bowles hits just that note with its airy, steel wire mesh base. Paired with a smoked glass top that reflects light, it’s a great choice for smaller sitting areas, as it will help a room feel larger than it is.

Alle Coffee Tables

Whaaaat the what. There’s a tempting sale over at Hem; the Alle Coffee Tables are so very affordable at the moment you’d be silly not to grab a couple. Don’t be too afraid of the red color, by the way, as it would provide a nice color contrast to an otherwise neutral interior. If that still makes you nervous, there’s black, ivory, pale oak, light blue, gray, eggplant, and walnut- all excellent choices.

Turning Table from Menu

Finally, a decent coffee table that will hide your junk. German designer Theresa Arns has thoughtfully allowed us a storage space for stashing remotes, magazines, chargers, and all that other miscellany that makes us look like slobs. The lid rotates open, giving you ample space to see and store living area stuff.

Octahedron Coffee Table

We’ve featured the Octahedron Side Table and the Double Octahedron Ring Planter from Eric Trine, so do you think we’d pass on the Octahedron Coffee Table? No way, no how. Measuring 36″ in diameter and 14″ tall, it’s a great size for a sitting area. Just add a lounge chair or two and a small sofa and you’re set. As a bonus, the table is powder coated, so it could easily live outdoors as well.

Marble Tables by Ferm Living

A little marble will go a long way to dressing up a room. Ferm Living’s new Marble Tables are available in three different sizes that will fit in easily as a side or coffee/cocktail table. You can’t go wrong with any of the colors (black, white, red, or green), and the powder coated metal frame is just about as durable as it gets. Imagine a jaunty ‘smart buy!’ sticker affixed to all of the images, and you’ll get an idea of my enthusiasm for these tables.

Muuto Around Tables

The aim of Thomas Bentzen’s Around Table for Muuto is functional simplicity. The tables are meant to be stable, durable, and the raised edge keeps coffee cups and drinks right where they belong. As Bentzen says, “around thus forms a practical and welcoming place to gather.” A small opening in the edge accommodates power cords, and, better yet, it’s currently on sale from DWR.

Trace Coffee Table by Tom Dixon

What is this lovely thing before us? It’s a coffee table by Tom Dixon and it’s strange enough to catch our eyes and have us thinking a glass coffee table is a good idea. The thinly printed stripes intersect at different angles depending upon our perspective, and that creates an interesting sort of moirĂ© pattern. Made from UV‑bonded sheet glass, the Trace Coffee Table is designed for domestic or contract use.

Holy Stool and Candy Table

This colorful table and stool by UM Project would be a great choice for occasional tables. Whether you choose to go monochrome or mix colors, the duo-tone finish would add interest and warmth to a room. It’d be smart to use the sturdy stools as side tables for daily use and then as extra seating when you have a few more guests than chairs.

Alex Building System

What’s the deal with this jumble of junctions and thumb screws? It’s the Alex Building System, and you’re going to have a lot of fun if you like putting things together with your own two hands, no tools needed. Various junctions can be tightened with the thumb screws onto wood sections to create anything your brain can dream up; coffee tables, consoles, side tables, shelving systems, etc. And, man, talk about the clean design- can you believe those joints look as nice as they do? It won’t be cheap no matter what size item you plan to build, but the possibilities are endless, so you may alter it as your needs change, and that makes the system worth every penny.

Annex Marble Coffee and Side Tables

Maybe you’re semi-impressed with these marble tables by NYC designer Joe Doucet, but you’ll be all-the-way impressed once you see how they fit together. Made from slabs of hand-honed marble, the tops and legs are held together only by gravity. Take a look at the flat, disassembled views to see the design clearly. Each table is a signed and numbered edition commissioned by the Shop at The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.

The Floyd Leg

This is so smart I can hardly stand it. The Floyd Leg combines a table leg with a clamp- add four legs to any flat surface and you’ve got a table. Simple concept, yes, but a fine execution. There’s only 9 days to go before the campaign closes- take a look if you’re interested: The Floyd Leg on Kickstarter.
