Coffee Tables

Tessello Table Legs

Noah Lambert has added a great leg option to the marketplace: the Tessello. Sold as a set of 3 for $90 (or a set of 4 for $120) it’s a pretty affordable option, especially if you already have a table that just needs a makeover in the leg department. Media center, coffee table, nightstand, you name it, the legs are a no-brainer for an easy update, as you’d only need a drill/screwdriver and screws or bolts to attach them to your choice of table top. Each leg is cut from a sheet of .1875″ thick steel and bent with a custom jig to insure uniformity.

Sfelt Table

Here’s a relatively simple idea executed well: a removable felt wrap protects the table’s surface from feet, drinks, laptops, etc. The handier among us might replicate this idea on our own coffee tables, but don’t discount the table under the smart felt idea just yet. It’s solid walnut with nicely curved TIG-welded steel legs, so it’ll stand the test of time while easily living up to its name.

Pedrera coffee table

Let’s have a quick little test on your design knowledge. Is the well known Casa Milรƒย  or ‘La Pedrera’ building designed by Le Corbusier or Antoni Gaudi? Hint: The building is located in Barcelona (image of Casa Milรƒย  here, just in case you want to take a peek before finalizing your answer). This coffee table, like the Pedrera lamps (aka PD2, PD4), was designed by Barba Corsini in the 1950s for the interior apartments of the La Pedrera building. Answer on the building’s architect below.

Scamp Tables

Table bases like tennis hoppers? Sounds iffy but it sure looks good, especially with the copper and marble combinations. You have your choice of small, medium, and large, with three base finishes and two tops, so there’s enough options to make sure it works with your room.

Free Range Tables

Well, how nice is it to see some marble topped tables not costing an absolute fortune? There’s solid walnut legs too, with brass details and a black steel frame. Both coffee and side are a pretty good alternative to some of the pricier marble tables you see in some showrooms, and the design has a very slight mid century vibe (a definite plus). From Blu Dot, if you hadn’t guessed already.

Tick Leg System

This is pretty fantastic. The Tick is a leg system which clips/clamps on to a variety of materials to make a table. No screws or tools necessary (see how it functions here). You pick the board- new, old (reuse points!), plywood, plastic, whatever- and then clip on the legs for a super easy new coffee table. Other sizes are in the works, but right now just the two widths (35cm or 50cm) are available. See below for more pictures and info.

Origami Coffee Table

Hey, West Elm, hive five to you on this Origami coffee table. It’s small enough to masquerade as a side table, which is great for those of us that like switching things up, yet it’s the geometric base that steals the show. And, hey, if some of us decide to switch out the top to marble or, say, black soapstone, we’ll have to high five ourselves (albeit awkwardly) for making such a smart upgrade.

Filipp Walnut Coffee Table

It looks like a large block of walnut, and probably feels like it too (it weighs almost 100 lbs), but there’s something else about this coffee table that makes it special. It hides two large drawers for tucking all manner of living room paraphernalia- remotes, magazines… and all that other stuff that create clutter. Be forewarned that this needs assembly, but that shouldn’t be too much of a surprise considering the price.

P7 coffee table

In terms of coffee tables, how many decent ones are at or under the $300 mark? Not many, that’s for sure, especially if ‘decent’ means aesthetically pleasing to the eye. This solid ash base was inspired by the peace symbol*; the designer deconstructed it to form 7 intersecting triangles.

Gus* Stump Coffee Table

How do you feel about faux-bois woodgrain? Terrific or tacky? I vote for terrific in this case, as the pattern is grooved into the sides and top of a white coffee table. It adds an organic feel- “updated organic modern” would be the label if you’re in need of classification. Perhaps even more exciting than the table is the handy storage box (Stump Storage Box, pictured below) which provides a great place for all sorts of things- toys, blankets, pillows, etc.- and could double as a side table (or stool?) if need be.

Frame Coffee Table

I’ve been thinking about changing out my coffee table for a more appropriate size, and this caught my eye as a possible option. A walnut top and a brushed steel base makes it fully appropriate for a modern living space, and it’s simple enough it wouldn’t take center stage (important when you have a lot of other stuff fighting for attention). Plus, there’s three different sizes to choose from, which gives a custom feel without a custom price.
