Knockout Side Tables

Simplistic side tables always get my vote, but these cross over into the minimalistic category, which has me making imaginary placards in their honor. They’re just so serious, and would be especially great next to a silly chair or sofa (you know the term: juxtaposition). With several shaped bases in solid white marble, black marble, or green Swedish marble, you’ll have to consider a cluster (if you can afford it) of tables together for maximum impact. Or just get one, and admire its pedestal-like presence.

Skultuna Basso Coaster

No more wine or champagne drips on your precious tabletop, because this Skultuna Basso Coaster will set the bottle dead center each and every time, thanks to its raised center surface. Did you know that indentation at the bottom of bottles is known as a punt or kick-up? Good luck trying to fit that into a conversation without appearing like a complete nerd.

Wire Planters by Norm Architects

If things feel dull and dreary in a room, perhaps you need a plant or two. Plants are excellent for purifying the air and they give a much needed dose of nature (and texture) into boring rooms. The new-ish Wire Planters by Norm Architects elevate plants at varying heights, which makes things more interesting and, well, more natural.

Aqua Sink Drainer Basket

Sometimes a dish drainer is unavoidable. Instead of settling for the normal/terrible options at the local big box store, please do consider this rather simple plastic option. Use it in the sink for soaking (saves water) and then set it up on the counter to drain (the drain may be repositioned in order to fit your particular layout).

Harris Sofa by Montauk

Sofas are the most important of furnishings, right up there with mattresses. After all, we spend lots of time on our sofas- reading, watching shows and movies, sleeping. So, you might as well invest in something you really, truly love, right? For a recent project I looked and looked for the right sofa: it needed to be at least 8′ long, low, streamlined and soft. As in, take-a-nap-on-it soft. As is my usual luck, Montauk Sofa, which is not in my state, and only has showrooms that required me to get on a plane to see the sofa in person, had the right match: the Harris Sofa.

Canot Cutting Boards

A lovely cutting board, is it not? And it’s got an accompanying Canot Kitchen Brush especially suited to “scrape, scrub, clean and cut” those fruits and vegetables that are oh-so-good for that body of yours. Maybe with both the cutting board and brush you’ll be more inclined to fit those fruits and veggies into your daily meal planning. It’s worth a shot.

Ada Sconce

The Ada Sconce is a versatile little light, for its shade is made of two adjustable reflectors on friction hinges. This means you can move the shades around in many different ways to direct the light exactly where you wish. Fans of Charlotte Perriand might recognize a little of her CP-1 Sconce in this design, as this light was inspired by that exact design. And, another nice tidbit: the Ada sconce is named for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which dictates that sconces in hallways must not protrude from the wall more than 4”.

Hasami Porcelain Teapot

Not only does this Hasami Porcelain Teapot have a classically modern shape, it shares the same diameter as other pieces in the Hasami Porcelain collection, which allows for easy transport and stacking. That’s not only beneficial for your cabinet space, but it also makes for an efficient and aesthetically pleasing tablescape. Crafted from a custom blend of clay and porcelain, the surface is softer to the touch than traditional porcelain. Available from the Dwell Store for $55 for a limited time.

Muuto’s Grain Pendant

At first glance, you’ll most likely wish Muuto’s new Grain Pendant was a bit bigger than ~8″ in diameter. However, once you see a few lined up over a kitchen island or a large grouping over a table, you’ll be glad that it’s not too large, as the size is perfect for multiples. Get up close and personal, and you’ll see the shade is made from a mix of bamboo fibers and polypropylene, which gives it a subtle texture and warmth.

LAX Milking Stool

Add this stool to the list, as it’s delightfully simple with a T-shaped cross brace to make sure the legs stay put. What height do you need? There’s the counter seat height (24″h, shown), bar height (30″h), standard height (16″h, shown below), and a wider side table version (16″ h x 24″ dia.). Take your pick.

Monochrome Belgian Dart Set

Darts, anyone? Set, aim, and fire with these finely balanced darts. Done in a monochrome color scheme, the set will easily work in a games room (or whatever other room of the house you deem appropriate). Birchwood barrels and shafts with polished steel tips make up the darts, while the basswood board has “hydraulically-inserted” brass guidelines delineating the scoring rings. All these fine materials will hopefully last a lifetime (just be sure to throw the darts towards the dartboard, not at any short tempered, maniacal guests).

Nokori Folding Chair

Is this the nicest folding chair you’ve seen in a while, or what? Hand-rubbed mahogany wood combined with heavy English Bridle leather make this chair sturdy and stylish. Easy to move from room to room and easy to store, it’s a sure bet that you’ll not regret adding one (or two) of these to your home for extra seating options should the need arise. Available in Black or Natural.
