JOY N. 3 Tray Enamel Paint

A faceted blue tray is exactly the sort of landing spot you need for your prized possessions. Maybe it’ll be for today’s snail mail, your keys, and your wallet when you get home after a long day, or maybe you’ll choose to display a short stack of books or magazines on your coffee table. Either way, you will want to clear it off every so often just so you can fully appreciate the reflection of light off its surface. Made from a steel sheet, the tray goes through a sophisticated molding technique to create the faceted texture. There’s also the JOY N. 1 Bowl, pictured below.

World Desk Notepad

Next stop on your world tour? Plan it with the World Desk Notepad. Measuring in at just over 8″x11″, it has enough space to pinpoint your future coordinates or sketch in the possible locations of the various pied-à-terre you’ll have when you retire. You might also play around with testing yourself or your coworkers on country names and borders. That’d be loads of fun, wouldn’t it?

Minimalist Folio

Well, isn’t this a nice surprise. It’s a Minimalist Folio that costs under $50. The fact that it’s made from polyurethane could be good or bad, depending on your aversion or preference to leather, but I think we’ll all agree that this kind of price point is very welcome. The medium size easily holds a tablet and notebook, while the large will fit a 13″ laptop. A small pouch holds the smaller essentials and two peg-in-hole fastenings keep the coverlet closed. Choose between Blush, Navy and Pewter.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

You do know it’s Mother’s Day this weekend, right? If you’ve neglected to get your mother figure something special, here’s a few ideas to get your brain in the right place. You might have to investigate two-day shipping rates, but that’s better than having her think you don’t care about her, isn’t it? Be sure to take a look at our Gifts section (organized by price) if you’d like to get a few more ideas.

Slit Tables from Hay Studio

The Slit Tables from Hay Studio are pretty sharp. The designs are translated from paper origami, and the sleek lines and angles of the metal surfaces will offset your soft furnishings with style. You’ll have a hard time picking out colors though, as there are 14 different combinations (mirror and brass finishes!) to catch your eye.

General Tray Artist Edition

We featured Good Thing’s General Tray back in February, but now they’re offering the tray in artist editions. Interested? Six different New York based artists are participating, and there’s only three one-of-a-kind pieces by each artist, so you’d best add your favorite version to your cart lickety-split or else you’ll miss out. They’d be the perfect hold-alls for your miscellany. Maybe with an artist’s edition you’re more likely to put things away so you can see the tray? Let’s say so, shall we?

FF DIN Typeface House Numbers

Oh, how nice to see these oak house numbers in the FF DIN font by Another Country. I’d wager an educated guess that they’re certainly better than the current offering at your local hardware store, and the price isn’t too terribly expensive (unless you have a lot of numbers in your address). The visible wood grain will provide an excellent contrast to your home’s siding, and don’t worry about quality either, as each number is laminated to ensure durability for outdoor environments.

Ash & Anchor Tea Towels

Whoa, have you ever seen such pretty tea towels? Ash & Anchor has quite a few wonderful patterns printed with earth friendly pigment inks on a linen/cotton blend. Buy one (or two) for yourself, one for your best friend, one for your mother, and, if you have another $25 to spare after all that, send one to me. I’ll take the Anodyne, no, wait, the Empire State… or the Tusk. Hmm, maybe I should just get all three.

Ora Teapot and Tea Cup Set

The same guy responsible for the x3 Watering Can, Paul Loebach, designed this double-walled glass teapot. There’s no need for a handle, as the insulating outer glass wall never gets too hot to handle. Hold, carry, and pour your tea with ease. To complete the set, add the Ora Tea Cups to the mix. (Note: the teapot and cup set would make a nice gift for certain upcoming events.)

Shadowplay Galaxy Scarves

We’ve featured Slow Factory’s silk/cotton Scarves before, but just in case you’d like a lower price point, the NYC based company Shadowplay has a nice selection of galaxy print scarves as well. However, don’t go thinking it’s an easy Mother’s Day gift option, as some of the designs won’t ship until the beginning of June.

x3 Watering Can

Yeah, it’s just a watering can, big deal. And, yes, a single metal tube is bent three times (hence the name) to create the handle and the pour spout. The handle allows it to be held from the top when full and at the side when watering. All those things plus a semi-decent price tag must mean that this year you’ll finally take decent care of your plants; with a watering can like this, who wouldn’t? Just don’t over water your plants accidentally while admiring the water can.

    Voice Recorder by Richard Upchurch

Celebrate handcrafted noise with this Voice Recorder by Richard Upchurch. No, there’s no fanciness involved, it’s just a box with a voice recorder in it. However, the fun to be had is in the playback button and the control knob where you adjust the speed and pitch. Maybe think about filling up break time with a little bit of silly sound business? Or, better yet, it might be a good Mother’s Day gift if you record a heartfelt-yet-funny message?
