Bin 8 Multi Kitchen Tool

Short on drawer space in the kitchen? This Bin 8 Multi Kitchen Tool will help. It has 8 essential kitchen tools, all housed within a shape similar to a wine bottle. You’ll have a funnel, a lemon juicer, a spice grater, and egg masher, a cheese grater, a lid grip/opener, an egg yolk separator, a measuring cup, and even a little attachment to use the funnel as a vase. It’s not expensive, so it might not last the longest, but if you’re on a tight budget it’ll do the job(s).

EYEteleporter by Juste Kostikovaite

This is so ridiculous it’s wonderful. The EYEteleporter is a mask that displaces your eyesight. Put it on and you’ll either see the view point of your belly, above your head, or above your head, backwards, and upside down. Those three modes will hopefully insert a little bit of fun into your day at the office, as long as your coworkers don’t mind you wearing a large, cardboard, telescope-like contraption. Yes, you’ll look weird, but at least you’ll have fun.

The Public Radio by Centerline Engineering

There’s not much time left to back this project (eek!), but it’s better to post it now than never. For radio monogamists, The Public Radio by Centerline Engineering is the perfect pairing. It’s a single station FM radio in a Mason jar, pre tuned to your favorite station. There’s only an on/off/volume button, an antenna, and the radio, all housed in/on a Mason jar. No complications, no tuning, just the one station you tune into most.

Tilt Cutting Boards

As we’re all well aware, there are many excellent cutting boards for us to choose from, and now we can add one more to the ever growing pile. Danish designer Tobias Tøstesen has created the Tilt Cutting Board for Menu, and it has an angled side to let it lean steadily against a wall for storage. Its asymmetry adds further to its aesthetic; rounded and straight lines set it apart from the usual (now boring?) rectangle.

Superior Labor’s Brass Clipboard

If you owned a brass clipboard, you and your to-do list would feel appropriately important. Plus, when you checked off completed items, you could congratulate yourself while also admiring the slight patina the brass surface acquires over time. Sized for letter size (or A4) paper, this clipboard is made in the Superior Labor’s southern Okayama workshop in Japan.

Mr. N LED Table Lamp

That’s right, it’s a lamp. The Mr. N LED Table Lamp will most likely get a few double takes thanks to its outside illuminated surface. Shaped like a lowercase ‘n’, the lamp uses advanced light panel technology to emit a soft, warm glow that’s easy to control and adjust with a one-finger touch. Mr N’s dimensions are small- 7.5″ H x 4.30″ W x 3.2″ D- so it could easily fit on a smaller desk, bookshelf, or table.

Pixo LED Table Lamp

Remember this little guy? The Pixo Lamp incorporates a USB port in its base, which means more convenience when charging our mobile devices. However many times you’ve reached behind your sofa/bed/table/desk to pick up a charging cable, you know it’s been too many.

There are other impressive things about this lamp (360 degree rotating head, three-axis articulating stem, uses just five watts thanks to low-energy LEDs, etc.) but all we’re going to appreciate right now is the USB port (Hat tip to designers Pablo and Fernando Pardo for this small yet significant detail). Now on sale from DWR, $169.15 – $174.25, until October 23, 2014.

Hexagon Stand

Paper towel holders aren’t big business, so there’s not a plethora of options out there to fit a picky person’s aesthetic. However, Ferm Living comes to the rescue with this Hexagon Stand. Made of solid brass (matte polished) and a marble base, it’s subtle and, dare I say, beautiful. Does a paper towel holder deserve such high praise? This one does.

Table Tiles

Products that have an illusion of a 3D surface through use of color go straight in the ‘favorites’ folder, and this set of six coasters from Bower is no exception. Arrange them as a group in “endless permutations”- fun, right?- and also for function as a trivet. Choose between black/beige, green/gray, or red/blue.

Mozartkugel Music Box

What do you get the person who has everything? A Mozartkugel Music Box, of course. Turn the key and Mozart’s ‘Voi Che Sapete’ from ‘Marriage of Figaro’ begins playing from inside the large, solid wooden ball. Magic? We wish. This wind-up music box is cleverly designed by Adam + Harborth of Siebensachen.

Timor Calendar by Enzo Mari

Designed in 1967, this particular perpetual calendar isn’t going anywhere; it’s in MoMA’s collection, if that gives you any clue to its staying power. Easy to use and easy to see, just flip the lithographed PVC cards to show the day of the week, date, and month.

Sottsass Twergi Spice Grinders

These bright Twergi Spice Grinders have a vintage appeal that’s bound to stay timeless thanks to their classic wood-turned shapes and bold red/black/yellow color scheme. Italian designer Ettore Sottsass and his team of designers were responsible for Alessi’s range of wooden products during the 80s and 90s, and, thankfully, they created these beech wood grinders that highlight some of the wiser color combinations of two rather daring (and some might say questionable) design decades.

Bodum® Pebo™ Vacuum Coffee Maker

Are you up for a bit of chemistry when making your morning brew? If so, this Pebo Vacuum Coffee Maker from Bodum could be an interesting experiment. How does it work? Steam escapes from the bottom bowl into the top, mixing with the oils of your coffee. Once you remove it from heat, and the newly brewed coffee filters back down into the bottom bowl for serving. That’s a simplified version, of course, but you get the idea. It’ll take a little longer (5 to 11 minutes) than a regular coffee maker but the brewing time and temperature are calibrated precisely for a perfect cup each time.

Stand Up! Stand

It might be a stretch to call this computer/iPad/book stand ‘beautiful’, but you certainly can’t dispute that it’s interesting. A durable soft-coating won’t leave marks on surfaces and its substantial weight will keep the heaviest of cookbooks (or laptops?) secure for your hands-free viewing.
