Recycled Army Canvas Rug

Well, if tents and track tarps are going to be recycled, why not into a rug? I like how each one will be slightly different, and the colors vary from natural to worn greens. This could work anywhere from an office to kid’s room (in my opinion).

Materials: canvas
52″ dia.

Blue Bell Apron

We didn’t do any kind of Father’s Day gift guide this year, mainly because there weren’t a lot of requests, but mostly because we didn’t feel it necessary. You know what to get your father, right? No? Well, if your father figure likes cooking or grilling, I recommend this apron by Winter Session. It’s made from raw, unwashed denim and has the look of brand new overalls. Plus, there’s several pockets for tools and such.

L_MP floor lamp

An incredibly affordable-yet-stylish floor lamp is not something you come across everyday, yet here we are, checking out this lamp by A/R Studio at CB2 for $149. That’s right, it’s on sale from $200, and if you need extra lighting, it’s definitely worth considering. Composed of a solid white oak frame, cocoa linen shade and red cloth cord, which adjusts to raise or lower the shade.

Foot dimmer switch.

Friend or Foe Cup & Saucers

No need to share your opinion with these cups; just hand over the appropriate one to your companion and they’ll know exactly what you think of them. Or not. Handpainted by Polly George’s father, they’re not cheap, but they sure are fun. (By the way, if you’re in London or planning to visit soon, I suggest stopping by Luna & Curious, as it’s a nice little shop.)

Leuchtturm Peka Springback Binder

If you care about presentation, or just simply the way papers or collections are kept, you’ll probably nerd out a little with me about this binder. Originating around 1917 from the KABE Verlag (KABE publication) company, the Springback binder was intended to instantly bind documents into a book, singly or in batches. A hidden binding can be opened and closed to rearrange or add contents, making it functional as a regular binder yet more secure as with a book cover. Keep in mind that the spine of the binder is rather large to accommodate the function, but I’d say that’s a small price to pay for such a finished look.

Utility Shower Curtain

Throw out those gross tension rod shelves and suction cup baskets in your shower. This shower curtain has four large self-draining pockets to hold your bottles, two loops for toothbrushes and razors, and, on the outside, towel loops. Machine washable and water repellent, you’ll have no need for a liner, as you can throw this curtain into the wash when it needs a cleaning. If you don’t mind the utilitarian feel, it’s a great choice for a bathroom short on storage.

Irregular Mesh

Perhaps you’re a little tired of wall decals, and believe me, I understand, but take just a moment to check out this one by Camila Leรณn. It’s just the right size; it would look similar to wallpaper in smaller room (say, a powder room), and on a larger wall it would be more of an art focal point. It’s a limited edition (50-piece), so if you’re into it, you better grab it soonish.

Do what you love / Love what you do

If you don’t do what you love, do something else. And if you can’t (or won’t) do something else, learn to love what you do. Simple enough advice.

Crystal Crayons

These are too aesthetically pleasing to pass up, even if you’ve not made crayon art for years. Actually, if you’ve not picked up crayons in years, now’s definitely the time to bring it back, with these lovely gems as motivation.

Wallplates

I seriously like Kickstarter. There’s quite a few smart product ideas looking to get a little support, and it sure doesn’t take much money to help out. Case in point, these Wallplates by Justin Porcano. I’d say they’re an improvement on Paul Koh’s Toggle and Rocker Key Switch in that the hook (and/or envelope) function is located to the side instead of above the actual switch. Pledge $15 or more and you get the Hook version, shown on right.

Set of Musical Glasses

These glasses would be excellent to have at your next dinner party, wouldn’t they? The graphics are musical notations for the correct level of liquid to produce the perfect pitch when a user runs their finger along the rim of the glass. As the price is for a set of 2, you’ll need to shell out a fair amount of dough to get a complete octave.

A Goal Planner

Happy Birthday Box

Question: What birthday present do you get someone when you only have $10? You get them a Happy Birthday Box, of course. Might be perfect for an impromptu celebration (for a forgotten coworker’s bday perhaps?) or for sending to a friend long distance. There’s just room enough for a tiny heartfelt note on the side.
