Noguchi’s Light Sculptures

This is just a reminder, if you’ve forgotten, that Isamu Noguchi’s table light sculptures are very affordable. Case in point, the Table Lamp Model 1AG you see above, comes in at $145. My other favorite, the Floor Lamp Model UF3-Q, isn’t so incredibly affordable ($525), but it’s still worth considering as a collector’s item that provides a wonderful, diffused light.

Gray Fabric Sofa

If you’ve ever shopped for a sofa with a clean, minimal style, you know that most of the time they’re shockingly expensive. This Gray Sofa is not (in comparison). It has reverse-stitched seams, the requisite low profile, and an option of high or low arm height…or, do one of each, as shown in the image above. Custom fabric is also available. Curious? Yeah, me too. This may help your decision as well: each piece of Interior Define’s furniture collection* is made-to-order and every piece has a 365-day return policy. Pretty crazy (in a good way), right?

I’d say this is an elegant option for a iPad Pro sleeve/stand, wouldn’t you? It fits your tablet, stylus, and a file for loose papers- that’s it. A front flap on the inside allows you to prop up your tablet against the folded back side, giving you a two-in-one function with sleek and simple styling. Smart.

Poketo Design Planners

We can avoid thinking about 2016 all we want, but that won’t do anything to postpone its arrival. Might as well prepare yourself by thinking about a new planner for the new year, right? Poketo has a fresh collection of open-dated planners, with weekly and monthly pages ready to start whenever you’d like. I chose the large Mon Cahier Planner myself, but this latest group would fit into a bag much easier for on-the-go planning. Plus, the fun covers are a definite bonus.

Dux Brass Pencil Sharpener

Do you use pencils? Do you have a plastic pencil sharpener? Pfft. Toss it in the recycling bin, because this one is much better. Made of solid brass, the Dux sharpener is built to last. The weight of it alone would keep it from getting lost/shuffled around with your other desk tools, but there’s no guarantee that it wouldn’t walk away with a coworker with sticky fingers, so watch out.

Hanko Side Table

Need a side table with decent storage and good, solid construction? Check out the Hanko Side by Chadhaus. Soft-close slides will shut the drawer softly while the pared down appearance will slip in nicely alongside a mix of modern furnishings. Nambu Cast Iron Tea Pot

Designed by Makoto Koizumi, the Nambu Cast Iron Tea Pot is made using traditional craftsmanship in the Iwate Prefecture of Japan. That craftsmanship goes back to the middle of the 17th century, so rest assured that this kettle will last for generations, and look exceptionally good while providing your daily cup or pot of tea. And, should you need an extra skillet or pan, have a look at the other Nambu pieces.

Tafla Mirrors

Remember the Plopp Stool? Well, that kind of manufacturing process (called FiDU, by the way: ‘Freielnnen Druck Umformung’ = ‘free inner pressure deformation’) isn’t going to just be confined to seating, thank goodness, as that would be a crying shame. Just look at the Tafla Mirrors. Are they not stupendous? Are they not stunning? They’re certainly not cheap (understandably), but man-oh-man, are they spectacular.

Grid and Rain Table Linens by Sylvain Willenz

Need I remind you that Thanksgiving is right around the corner? I know, I know, there’s too much to think about, and you just don’t have the space in your brain to consider how your dining table will look. After all, who cares about food presentation and the overall aesthetics of your home? Oh, wait, you care. Darn it.

So, take a look at the collection of table linens from Hem. You can basically close your eyes, point at any pattern, add to cart, and voilà! Your table will look fantastic, as the patterns are modern and simple and will set off your food fabulously. Plus, they’re not holiday-centric, so you can use them year round.

Aarre Wall Jewels

Pretty, aren’t they? The Aarre Wall Jewels collection is made by skilled artisans in the Iittala factory. Every single one is mouth-blown, so consider them each as a unique piece of art. Perhaps you’ll just need one to hang your beloved Leica, or perhaps a trio would do the trick of organizing your oft-worn coat and scarves. Fair warning: they’re not inexpensive, so don’t get too entranced by the jewel-like colors, or else you’ll blow your whole budget.

Geo Thermos

Hello Geo. Nice sharp edges sure set this guy apart from the usual thermos. And the colors (!), that geometric shape, the semi-retro design… who would have thought that a thermos could draw such an admiring audience? The Geo thermos holds one liter and comes in the colors purple, grey, black, white, red and turquoise.

Floating Forest by Michael Anastassiades

Ah, thank goodness, you can now stop your search, for I’ve found you the perfect gift for any discerning modernist/minimalist. Each Floating Forest piece by Michael Anastassiades is composed of a hand-made brass planter that sits on the rim of any glass. By suspending a seed or plant above, growth is facilitated and exposed in its natural elegance. Now, the question is, just which one (or ones) shall you select?
