Blackline Furniture Collection

If you’re in the market for dark and minimal pieces, have I got a treat for you. Blackcreek Mercantile & Trading Co. has recently expanded their collection to include a Bench, Low Table, and Step Stool. If the dark/black version doesn’t float your boat, you may also specify a bleached or natural finish as well. Traditional wood joinery sets the collection in the heirloom category, so it’ll last a lot longer than you (plan to note in your will which favorite kid/niece/nephew inherits which piece- happy thoughts, huh?). Each piece has a timeless, simple silhouette and will work in whatever room you choose.

Craftworker Cabinet

Let’s take a moment to geek out just a tiny bit over this Craftworker Cabinet. For $130, you get a wooden cabinet with flip-open doors along with a starter kit of 27 tools, from basic to professional. 27 tools, in a cabinet, that you can hang on a wall or tuck in a closet or under the bed. The set was first produced in 1919, and it shouldn’t be a surprise that it’s still one heck of a deal. Is there a better housewarming gift for someone’s first home? Nope.

Bambino Kids Set, Warm and Cool

Parents, can we discuss the silly plates and dishes on which you serve your children food? Maybe they like garish pink or blue, or the cartoon characters in colors that would make a discerning adult nauseous, but why not gently steer them towards something easier on the eyes? This tableware by Ekobo Home is still colorful, yet the color is of a softer, quieter variety. Made from bamboo, a renewable natural resource, each piece is dishwasher-safe, so you’ll not need to sacrifice an easy cleanup. The set has four pieces; a cup, a bowl, a deep plate and a spoon, just enough to cover the essentials, or pick and choose your pieces individually.

Waka Waka Cutting Boards

I know just what you need: a couple of odd-shaped cutting boards. Right? They’ll be just the thing to add a little interest to your charcuterie and cheese spread, and they won’t hurt your wallet either. Choose between boards shaped like thought bubbles and baguettes, or a triangle and mirror-shape. Plus, just say ‘Waka Waka’ outloud- it’s Fozzie Bear!

Tech Dopp Kit

So many cords and chargers, what’s a person to do? Well, you could swear off gadgets, maybe go off the grid permanently, or you could get something like this Tech Dopp Kit from This is Ground. The zip-up organizer offers plenty of spots to keep your cords and adapters strapped down and tidy, so you can easily grab whichever one you need without untangling it from all the others while shouting out profanities. An internal zipped pouch keeps smaller items separate. The larger grande size has room for headphones, while the regular size will keep your basic essentials.

Solitaire Cards

Look a little closer at these cards and you’ll see Susan Kare’s original artwork for the Windows 3.0 Solitaire game. Did you know that the original Solitaire computer game is now 25 years old? Sheesh. So, you can now celebrate the computer game’s anniversary by playing with physical cards that look like the computer version. Kind of fun, huh?

Standing Lamp by Muller Van Severen

Let’s finish off the week with something whimsical. Perhaps you don’t have the room (or the budget) for a Duo Seat + Lamp by Muller Van Severen, but maybe a Standing Lamp could slot in beside your sofa and/or favorite reading chair. No? Oh well, at least we can admire the very thin curve arc propped up by two spindly legs in blue, yellow, gray or black. There’s a lot of personality in such a spare form, don’t you think?

Minimal Float Wall Desk

Are floating wall desks still a thing? If you think so, then this one will suit you just fine. Mount it to any wall for a multi-purpose workspace or landing pad. It’s especially suited for smaller spaces like bedrooms, as leg room isn’t an issue. Mount it at any height you want (standing maybe?), stick a laptop/monitor on it and voilà! you have a sleek little workstation that can hide your keyboard and papers away when you’re not using them. Choose between the Small (36″w) or Large (51″w) depending on your needs. Maybe it could even go in a large hallway as a floating console for keys and mail and such?

Turning Table from Menu

Finally, a decent coffee table that will hide your junk. German designer Theresa Arns has thoughtfully allowed us a storage space for stashing remotes, magazines, chargers, and all that other miscellany that makes us look like slobs. The lid rotates open, giving you ample space to see and store living area stuff.

Trusco Tool Box TY-410-SV

Would you happen to need a small-ish Trusco Tool Box? Don’t worry, I’m not going to link you to a Craigslist ad, it’s just that this one is quite affordable and looks to be almost indestructible. It might be a good home for the odd medley of screwdrivers, hammers and nails you have yet to find a resting spot for, or, maybe it could even hold your sewing tools or drawing supplies? And, for an extra dose of cute (if a toolbox can be cute) is the smaller sized TY-320-SV ($45).

Stol Guitar Stand

I think I linked to this on a previous Friday Links list, but a few new product photos get it extra recognition. The Stol is a collapsible guitar stand that’s very easy on the eyes. It’s composed of two A-frame pieces that slot together to create a simple stand worthy of your best guitar. Knock the stand back down for flat storage, no tools necessary.

Frames 2.0 Grid Bookcase

This isn’t your normal bookcase, as it doesn’t have solid shelves. Instead it’s composed of 12 wooden frames, all open in the middle. Books may still be balanced over the frames, of course, but other possibilities arise when considering the use of the middle space; things like planters or containers can hang from the frames, thus enabling you to create a versatile bookcase or room divider. When packed, all the wooden frames fit together to create a long, flat, easy-to-ship box.

Peek LED Table Lamp

The Peek LED Table Lamp is a cute little thing, isn’t it? It swivels 360° around its heavy metal base and has an adjustable shade for the right diffused-yet-direct light. Simply touch the tip of the stem to dim the light to your preferred brightness. Look closer and you’ll see that the base has a concave top that can hold smaller items like paperclips, jewelry, and coins. Could it be the perfect companion to your desktop or bedside table? I’d say so.
