Scholten & Baijings Grid Pillows

Spring has sprung, so you might as well clean out the cobwebs and bring in a little color in the form of a Scholten & Baijings Pillow or two. With bright colors and characteristic patterned grids, any one of them will inject a little pizzazz into a tired room. Now, on to the trouble of deciding which ones to get (the blue and pink ones are my favorite).

Font Clock

Talk about Throwback Thursday, we posted Sebastian Wrong’s Font Clock way back in 2007 when a sentence would suffice as our entire comment*. Now, you have the option to own your very own by snapping it up on sale, as Dwell Store has discontinued its stock.

Folly Soaps

Do you remember the link to Folly Soaps back in January? If you were quite smitten with the colors and shapes (I know I was), you’ll be happy to know that Pelle Designs has updated their site, plus a few individual soaps are also available at the Cooper Hewitt Shop ($16- $56). If you feel like splurging, or happen to be exceptionally dirty, get the whole set for $280.

Acacia Honey Dipper

Hmm, perhaps we all need to upgrade our honey dippers- if we even have one to begin with, that is. The hexagonal shape of a honeycomb attached to a polished stainless steel handle allows honey to drizzle easily into your tea or toast. Designer Miriam Mirri brought this clever idea into existence, and we might just have to say it’s the coolest honey-drizzling tool to ever cross our computer screens.

Sound Grenade by ROBOCOPP

You can either never leave your house, throw caution to the wind, or prepare yourself with a personal safety device. All sorts of scary situations exist, in the city (muggers) and deep in the great outdoors (bears!). The Sound Grenade by ROBOCOPP works just as you’d expect: pull the pin and you’ll set off a 120-decibel siren that scares off impending danger. Replace the pin, and the sound turns off. Take a look at the field test to get an idea of the sound volume.

Same Same But Different Glasses

These three glasses are shaped differently yet each hold the same amount of liquid, hence their name. The familial likeness combined with the slight shape variation would add interest and movement to a table top, and, best of all, they’re stackable, so they’ll take up less space than normal glasses.

Foldin, Wall Mounted Modular Bookcase

A small, flat packed bookcase may be just the thing to sort out any messy stacks of miscellany. The Foldin has convenient folding shelves (plywood with felt corners), which allow you to easily move them around for different configurations. Fold down the sides and slide out the shelf, it’s easy as can be. Choose between three different sizes, all with extremely affordable price tags.

Holmes Sconce

It doesn’t take much deductive reasoning to select this Holmes Sconce from Schoolhouse Electric as one of the better options in the marketplace. It might be inspired by the classic candle sconce in the days before electricity, but the minimalist lines in its steel backplate marks it firmly in the present. Make it your own by choosing a specialty bulb, and know that the smaller size would fit almost anywhere you need an extra source of light.

Hay Plisse Archival Folder

Do you have big stock of documents and miscellaneous paperwork? Ugh, no fun. But wait, it’ll be a snap to organize it all with this nice folder, don’t you think? Open it up to access a large fan of sections with a grid design along the sides. It folds close with a matching band to keep things tidied away. The A4 size will accommodate legal documents as well as odd notes, craft supplies, and memorabilia.

Zohra Wool Kilim Rug

Triangles! In various colors! On a black background! Come on, take a risk on rug, why don’t you. It’s pretty affordable, and, bonus points, it’s handwoven in India in a Fair Trade Certified™ facility. The triangle pattern is a little jazzy (in a good way) and could be just the thing to add a little bit of fun to a room.

Concrete Desk Set

One thing is for sure, these desk accessories aren’t going anywhere. They’ll not be tipped over or jostled easily, as they’re made of hefty concrete with subtle, curved edges. We first posted this collection back in 2011, so you know they’ll not be lumped in with those ‘trendy’ sorts of office supplies. All pieces are hand-cast from solid concrete.

Wall Desk by Norm.Architects

Small desks that fold away are rare these days, despite all of the laptops and tablets floating around us at home. That’s exactly why this minimalist drop-down Wall Desk catches the eye. It’s suited for a small work surface or as a minimalist valet or dressing table. There’s a cable management compartment for hiding messy cords away, and you’ve got the option of folding up the whole thing to keep things tidy and to create more space. And, to sweeten the deal, Menu is offering 20% off all their goods through the end of March (enter code MS2016 at checkout), so the desk is on sale for $160. Not too bad, eh?

Boya Lamp

This little lamp takes its inspiration from the sea- think lighthouse beacons and buoys. At 8.5″ high and 7.5″ in diameter, it’s small enough to fit on a desk or large side table without taking up a lot of visual space, especially as there’s no traditional cloth lampshade. The base is made of reclaimed American red and white oak beams and the shade is thick, tinted grey glass.
