Obviously this is really close to the Daybed designed by Mies Van Der Rohe, however it’s not a copy because the head pillow is slightly different, which is why it gets away with just being called “inspired” by Mies. I’m mostly posting it because I was really impressed by the low price tag.

I was taking a look at the inspirational remodel in the Chicago apartment of Andreas over at apartment therapy, and practically flipped over the use of the Ikea cabinets as floating credenzas. The best thing about this DIY job is that it can be accomplished fairly inexpensively. If I were to guess I’d say that he used 30″x18″ fan top cabinet and the Strecket handles.

I’ve been really inspired by the simplicity of the modernized Shaker aesthetic lately.

Why are big chunks of wood so appealing? I love the integrated black legs on this particular bench- they seem to frame the grain nicely and give an elegant yet natural appearance.
“Not every table has four legs. Aesthetically smart, this simple and
minimal design enables for its various applications throughout the home
or work environment. Cleanly constructed of a solid piece of Cherry,
its geometric and graceful design accentuates the natural beauty of the
grains and knots of the pine. The handsome wood top of the piece allows
for use as a reversible table or bench. Fusing sophistication with
functionality, the African wenge wood legs provide an exceptionally
strong support and stability. This item is made to order with a lead
time of 6-8 weeks.”

Much to my surprise, while perusing my new Wallpaper* magazine, I discovered that Wallpaper* awarded Los Angeles with “Best City”. It’s not that I don’t love Los Angeles, it’s just when I moved hear exactly one year ago, I got a lot of flack from a lot of people. It has a bad reputation, but I’m finding it’s really a great place to be.
“It’s long been easy to knock LA, but a slow bounce-back began with the new millennium. House prices have gone through the roof and tourism is at record post-9/11 levels. The city of Eames, Neutra and ‘Googie’ has always had few equals in its appreciation of challenging design, and it shows in the star status given to the people creating the look of today’s LA, from Kelly Wearstler to Thom Mayne and, of course, Frank Gehry. “

Inspired by a bridge that spans England’s M5 motorway, Frank’s table is elegant and strong, and unlike most bridges, easy to manufacture and construct. Made from just three sections, the table top and two plug-in leg units assemble in mere seconds.

This light, modernist wall application reinterprets the headboard, a traditionally heavy furniture piece. The surface of reinforced cork is screenprinted by hand, graphically inspired by star formations and vintage tufted leather furniture. As a headboard or art object, the long proportion encourages creative placement in any environment. Dreamgate is reusable and can be trimmed easily to fit beds ranging from children’s to king size. Self-adhesive, non-marring backing makes installation simple.
Materials: Reclaimed cork from the bottle-stopper industry and water based ink
Dimensions: 2′h x 10′w x 1/8″d, Weight: 4lbs

These are sort of bizarre–The raw white cedar is probably better suited in an industrial/loft environment than a regular residential application, but it would have a great impact in a large space.

This custom media unit is available in a multitude of woods.
“Designed by Jacob Marks, the unit offers generous storage for A/V equipment in the form of a long, narrow flap style door on the right side, additional shelving or storage for the subwoofer on the left (please note at time of order placement intended use for this space), and a slender drawer mounted in the aluminum slab leg. I was impressed with this price and scaling of this piece. As to be expected, the unit has cord management for the back and the drawer fronts drop down to reveal all your peripherals.

This clever unit both hides a mess of wires and also conceals a power strip.
