Studio Ilse

Here’s another inspiring interior project from Studio Ilse. It’s an interesting juxtaposition between both industrial and ornate, and stark and colorful.

Recessed Lighting

Recessed lighting transforms rooms into modern spaces because unlike a traditional fixture, it doesn’t break the ceiling space, but instead provides a nice consistent light throughout the room.

Thor Place by ODOS architects

I was perusing the lovely Below the Clouds today and came across the portfolio of ODOS architects. The Thor Place is heartbreakingly beautiful. It is so modern and simple with an amazing use of space.

Acme 3-in1 Kitchenettes

Admittedly, these look horrible at first glance. But if you have a little imagination, or even better, the February 2008 issue of Domino and turn to page 76, you will see that these can be customized and can actually look quite modern. What’s great about these is that they’re perfect for a tiny apartment and they are priced at $1200 and up. Additionally, they are somewhat customizable because you can specify the color of the base for a small upcharge and you can switch out the knobs with virtually anything.

Spritz Collection from Restoration Hardware

When faced with redoing a bath, you can opt to do it in one fell swoop, with coordinated fixtures, or you can try to do it as your budget allows, piece by piece, hoping to achieve a cohesive look. If you’re in the first category, you may be interested to know that the Spritz Collection from Restoration Hardware includes everything from matching sink and bath faucets, to towel bars and soap holders. I don’t recommend going too overboard with the lighting and accessories though.

Discount Shower Enclosure

I’ve been looking at the possibility of turning a large laundry room into a second bath, which means basically starting from scratch when it comes to all the fixtures. As you know, it can add up really quickly and the next thing you know, you’ve spent $15,000. One way to reduce costs is by searching at discount plumbing supply stores, as long as you have time to search.

Here’s a great shower entry that’s 1/3 the cost of what I’ve seen at other design stores. It was listed at $2,500 and now it’s only $799!

Modern Farm Table

I have had a design crush on the Big Sur dining table from Crate and Barrel ($1399) for over a year now, but I think the West Elm modern farm table ($599) is a good contender and is a lot cheaper.

Now, buyer beware, the one from Crate and Barrel is made of solid wood and the one from West Elm is just veneer, and I’ve heard that the West Elm veneers are notoriously thin, so if you have kids and pets and expect the table to hold up to some serious wear and tear, I recommend the Crate and Barrel one. If you live alone then the one from West Elm may do just fine.

Globus

This may be the craziest thing I’ve seen all day. But, if you like the idea of working in a mobile pod then the Globus is for you.

Globus is a compact personal mobile workstation that offers flexibility thanks to it’s rotating chair, the pull out table top and castors. You can work with or without a notebook. You can work where ever you want. You move your flexible workstation to a place where you want to be, open it and work. Flexible and functional, Globus can be used in the office but also at home. A sophisticated work station demonstrating a truly appealing example of innovative design.
