Fine 500 Desk Lamp by FX Ballery

How about an ultra thin LED lamp to light your workspace? The Fine 500 Desk Lamp by FX Balléry has a delicate outline yet it packs a punch when it comes to light output. You get 1200 lumen, which equals out to around 75W, with only 15W of energy consumed. Let’s all approvingly nod our heads at that bullet point, and then admire that it has four preset light levels and a “Green mode” option with a sensor that turns on and off depending on movement.

Wary Meyers Soap

It’s okay to be filthy when soap looks this good. Wary Meyers has all sorts of colorful stripes happening in their collection of glycerine soaps, and it’s enough to tempt one away from a push pump and go completely with the old tried and true bar o’ soap. Shall we purchase a few to show off in a soap dish for guests? Or will we be entirely selfish and enjoy them for ourselves? Maybe the trick is buy enough to do both.

10 Years

Ten years ago this month, in 2005, Kris pitched the idea of starting a design blog that only featured well-designed products available for purchase online.

Zuzunaga’s Zoom In + Zoom Out Blankets

More pixelated Bitmap imagery from Spanish designer Cristian Zuzunaga, and this time he’s taking cues from British painter Bridget Riley. It’s a great pairing, don’t you think? You might have seen some of Zuzunaga’s other pieces before, and I’d say this collection seems a little more quiet, though just as energetic- like a shy kid that just ate a LOT of sugar.

100% Trays from Blu Dot

A set of colorful steel trays will do wonders for your organizational skills, especially as you can nest all three together for an excellent color grouping or separate them for individual use. Sunglasses and keys would suddenly have their own spot, or your jewelry, or those office supplies… so many things would look right at home when corralled within the bent edge surfaces. Sold in a set of three.

Muji’s Body Fit Cushion

If you think you know how to be lazy and while (or, wile, if you prefer) away the hours, you are in for a big surprise, because Muji’s Body Fit Cushion is now available in the US, and it’s going to test your limits. Just how long can you sit and read a book? How long can you nap? What about meditating staring out the window? I bet you can double that time, easy, when you’re sitting upon this bulbous mound. Muji doesn’t exactly declare what’s inside of the cushion, but that’s okay as I’d rather not know and pretend it has something to do with high tech science or magic (or both).

Hay’s Wooden Ruler Triangle Set

These triangular rulers are pretty fun with their stripes and bright color contrasts. They’d probably make you happy every time you used them, or maybe even every time you looked at them, which makes them waaay cheaper than all the other things you do to make yourself happy (maybe).

The set of three is priced at just under the $50 mark, which might make it a good gift for someone who likes to draw or that’s fond of bright desk accessories. The straight Wooden Ruler Set (pictured above) is sold separately ($29), fyi.

Marble Tables by Ferm Living

A little marble will go a long way to dressing up a room. Ferm Living’s new Marble Tables are available in three different sizes that will fit in easily as a side or coffee/cocktail table. You can’t go wrong with any of the colors (black, white, red, or green), and the powder coated metal frame is just about as durable as it gets. Imagine a jaunty ‘smart buy!’ sticker affixed to all of the images, and you’ll get an idea of my enthusiasm for these tables.

The Ockham Razor

Razors aren’t pretty. No matter how many designers and ad teams try to convince us that their super-duper-bajillion-bladed plastic handle looks cool, it just doesn’t. So, why hasn’t someone created the Ockham Razor before now? Who knows, maybe the world just wasn’t ready for it yet. The Ockham is precision cast from solid metal that’s easy to keep clean- no ridges or bits of plastic that pick up soap and limescale. Simple ergonomics and a balanced weight make it comfortable to hold and use. Back the project on Kickstarter to get your very own (only two days left, fyi).

    Tube Audio

What can I say? It’s a speaker that connects to your device via Bluetooth, USB or auxiliary input cable. That and the fact that it’s 2 inches in diameter might make it perfect for providing high-quality audio while blending in easily amongst your other nice things. A rechargeable battery will keep music going for up to 8 hours. Oh, and if you could use a clock, pair it with its older sibling, the Tube Clock. Both are collaborations between Amsterdam-based Leff and designer Piet Hein Eek.

    DIY Thirsty Plant

You’d probably get sick of seeing all the hardware-related design belonging to MoMA Store’s London Tech City group, otherwise I’d post each and every item back to back to back. As it stands, I’ll reign in my excitement and post just one more today.

The DIY Thirsty Plant is a solar-powered sensor that flashes when your plants need water. You put it together by first creating a moisture sensor and then connecting a circuit to a solar panel. That solar panel powers an LED to flash when water is needed. Sounds pretty simple, and, if a kid (8+) can put it together, so can you. Feel free to hack the kit for more complicated solutions (automatic watering cans, plants that tweet, etc.) if you so desire.

    Sammy Screamer Motion Alarm

Here’s another sort of motion alarm, but this time it will bleep loudly if it’s moved. Stick the Sammy Screamer Motion Alarm on something you don’t want moved or touched, and as soon as someone puts their filthy paws on it, it will bleep and send a notification to your phone (via the free app). The Sammy measures around 2″x2″x1″, so it’s small enough to fit in or on the many things that should stay put just as you left them (handbag, bike, liquor cabinet, etc.).

    Buoy and Droplet Superstring Lights

Whoa. It’s been a while since we’ve taken a look at Patrick Townsend’s lighting portfolio, and what a smacker of a surprise to see the current offerings. The Buoy Large Pendant (above) sure is something special, with its handblown glass bubble and surrounding bursts of light, and the Droplet Bronze (below) is simply spectacular. If the price points on those are too high for you, please don’t overlook the original Orbit 35″ ($900) fixture, or the newer Stellar56 (shown below).

    Joggy Security Cam

Note: We’ve received an email from a reader that pointed out several concerns regarding this Indiegogo project. We suggest you read through the comments on the project page and check out the owners/manufacturers at the very least before contributing.

This security camera is a small, wearable camera equipped with motion sensor & tracker. While some of the finer details still seem to be in development, there are enough uses that make backing the project very tempting. Mount it outside your front door to be alerted to movement or sound or mount it inside the home to keep an eye on the kids. Put it in your luggage to track your bags or maybe clip it on your shirt to record possible pictures on a hike. You can even use it to park your car when it’s in the parking mode. Lots of options, aren’t there? Take a look at the video below, or go to Joggy’s Indiegogo page for more info.
