General Tray Artist Edition

We featured Good Thing’s General Tray back in February, but now they’re offering the tray in artist editions. Interested? Six different New York based artists are participating, and there’s only three one-of-a-kind pieces by each artist, so you’d best add your favorite version to your cart lickety-split or else you’ll miss out. They’d be the perfect hold-alls for your miscellany. Maybe with an artist’s edition you’re more likely to put things away so you can see the tray? Let’s say so, shall we?

FF DIN Typeface House Numbers

Oh, how nice to see these oak house numbers in the FF DIN font by Another Country. I’d wager an educated guess that they’re certainly better than the current offering at your local hardware store, and the price isn’t too terribly expensive (unless you have a lot of numbers in your address). The visible wood grain will provide an excellent contrast to your home’s siding, and don’t worry about quality either, as each number is laminated to ensure durability for outdoor environments.

Ash & Anchor Tea Towels

Whoa, have you ever seen such pretty tea towels? Ash & Anchor has quite a few wonderful patterns printed with earth friendly pigment inks on a linen/cotton blend. Buy one (or two) for yourself, one for your best friend, one for your mother, and, if you have another $25 to spare after all that, send one to me. I’ll take the Anodyne, no, wait, the Empire State… or the Tusk. Hmm, maybe I should just get all three.

Ora Teapot and Tea Cup Set

The same guy responsible for the x3 Watering Can, Paul Loebach, designed this double-walled glass teapot. There’s no need for a handle, as the insulating outer glass wall never gets too hot to handle. Hold, carry, and pour your tea with ease. To complete the set, add the Ora Tea Cups to the mix. (Note: the teapot and cup set would make a nice gift for certain upcoming events.)

Shadowplay Galaxy Scarves

We’ve featured Slow Factory’s silk/cotton Scarves before, but just in case you’d like a lower price point, the NYC based company Shadowplay has a nice selection of galaxy print scarves as well. However, don’t go thinking it’s an easy Mother’s Day gift option, as some of the designs won’t ship until the beginning of June.

x3 Watering Can

Yeah, it’s just a watering can, big deal. And, yes, a single metal tube is bent three times (hence the name) to create the handle and the pour spout. The handle allows it to be held from the top when full and at the side when watering. All those things plus a semi-decent price tag must mean that this year you’ll finally take decent care of your plants; with a watering can like this, who wouldn’t? Just don’t over water your plants accidentally while admiring the water can.

    Voice Recorder by Richard Upchurch

Celebrate handcrafted noise with this Voice Recorder by Richard Upchurch. No, there’s no fanciness involved, it’s just a box with a voice recorder in it. However, the fun to be had is in the playback button and the control knob where you adjust the speed and pitch. Maybe think about filling up break time with a little bit of silly sound business? Or, better yet, it might be a good Mother’s Day gift if you record a heartfelt-yet-funny message?

    Travel Toothbrush Holder

The words ‘toothbrush holder’ and ‘cool’ have never belonged in the same sentence, as far as I can tell, but that changes with this particular holder by Cedes Milano. You can also add the word ‘expensive’ into that mix, as it’s not cheap (just warning you). The hinged bottom is chrome plated and it has a tempered glass top with a very small hole to make sure no moisture gets trapped. Does it look cool? Yes. Will it protect your toothbrush? Definitely. Is it a little fussy and a tad pretentious? Maybe. Do you still want it? Don’t be embarrassed to say yes.

    Shapes Mirror: Oblong

An oblong reflective surface is set off by a contrasting matte color panel, giving this frameless Shapes Mirror the sort of look you’d get from a geometric art piece. The squared off base tends to suggest a tabletop placement, making it an ideal choice for a vanity or entryway area.

    Wine Breather Carafe Deluxe

If your mother likes wine, maybe you could get this “deluxe” Wine Breather Carafe for Mother’s Day next weekend. The updated gold-plated lid makes it special, while the function remains the same as the original Wine Breather. Simply invert a bottle of wine on the carafe for hands-free decanting. After aeration, use the carafe for serving or return the wine to the original bottle.

    Swing Bin by Shigeichiro Takeuchi

Do you remember the Swing Bin by Shigeichiro Takeuchi on Kickstarter last year? The bin is composed of a simple cylinder with a wooden lid that swings and tilts, allowing disposal while hiding the bin’s contents. It’s now available to purchase via Shigeichiro Takeuchi’s Moheim shop, so if you missed the Kickstarter campaign, you now have a second chance to upgrade your trash receptacle.
