NYC Transit Kerchief

Maybe you have the NYC Subway map memorized, and, if so, good for you. The rest of us rely on our smart phones when we’re in the city, and, oh, the horror when our battery dies and there’s not a reliable map to be found street side. If we had a NYC Transit Kerchief (or a Crumpled City Map), we could pull it out of our bag or pocket and then proceed to our destination without missing a beat. (We’ll avoid thinking about what happens when you’re sick and you badly need a tissue as well as directions.)

Smash Cup

You can plan to donate or recycle your big travel mug, because you won’t need it once the Smash Cup ships in October. But you love your travel mug, don’t you? Well, is your mug collapsible and highly portable? No? I thought so. The Smash Cup is a reusable cup that can be ‘smashed’ down after you’ve finished your coffee/tea. Fun, right? It’s leak-proof, so you can stuff it in your bag or pocket without worrying about drips or spills. Keep it with you throughout the day and eliminate disposable cups from your daily routine. Permission to now boast about your eco-friendly credentials granted.

Funnell – EJECT | WEAR

You know when you’re riding your bike or walking on the street and all of the sudden it starts to rain? You have to stop, get out your rain gear- if you have it- and put it on, then pedal or walk to your destination partially soaked, which is really no fun at all. That’s exactly where this backpack comes into play. A jacket ejects out of the backpack quickly (see the video below) to cover you and your pack sufficiently. It’s slightly super-hero-ish, and looks pretty easy in terms of function and use.

Contour Key Rings

There’s something altogether satisfying about a large key ring. It’s less likely to get lost, for one, and hooking it onto a bag or belt is much easier, even if you do sound like a janitor when you’re walking around. A screw clasp will save your fingers/fingernails, and each one would hold dozens of keys, or perhaps just ensure that the two or three keys you carry around won’t be misplaced. The Contour Key Rings are available in four distinct shapes: Bend, Drop, Hoop, and Bell.

Yield Picnic Bag

Any bag that unfolds into a blanket wins points for versatility, but it also gets a gold star for making it easy to embark upon an adventure at a moment’s notice. Throw the necessary goods in the Yield Picnic Bag and then take off for your destination. One zip and the bag unfolds to a blanket- the perfect thing for a picnic (or a playdate, if kids and toys are involved).

Everlane Leather Laptop Case

If your laptop sleeve is looking tired, perhaps you might consider retiring it in favor of this super minimal laptop/document sleeve from Everlane. A thinly padded interior protects your laptop and the no-nonsense exterior is devoid of any extra trimmings, which means you’ll look every bit the part of the successful [your career choice here]. A zip-top closure that wraps around one edge ensures that you can easily slide your device and other papers in and out with no fuss.

NomadClip

This NomadClip carabiner is not for climbing and it’s non-weight bearing. So, what in the world is it good for? Good question. It’s a portable charging cable. If you don’t mind carrying a carabiner around, you can clip it to your keys or bag and always have a cable to sync your smartphone. Now, not everyone wants to carry a carabiner, but, which is better, a long cord that can get lost or damaged easily, or a carabiner-that’s-not-really-a-wieght-bearing-carabiner that holds a charging cord in its frame? A steel frame and polycarbonate outer shell will withstand all manner of bumps and drops.

Macon and Lesquoy Pins (new)

Even if you’re not the type to pin a pin onto your hat/bag/shirt, these pins by Macon and Lesquoy will tempt you to change your ways. Yes, we’ve featured them before, but there’s a new batch out, and, come on, how could I resist not sharing a Radish, Pipe and Smoke, and Bicycle pin? Or an Apple, Crab, and Peapod pin? Do you not have an urge to pick a few and group them together artfully on a canvas tote? I have a curious urge to find a jean jacket* just so I can have a designated spot for a few favorites.

Aecraft Peak Laptop Cover

Here’s a case with a leather cover that integrates a small stand for your laptop. So what? Well, pivoting your screen at an angle helps your wrists be more comfortable and just might improve your posture (sit up straight!). Oh, and, of course, it looks pretty sleek with its “100% imported natural South African Merino wool felt and premium Norwegian vegetable-tanned leather” as well, and has an easy snap-shut closure to keep your device secure.

Runbell

You know how frustrating it is to be running along a crowded pathway, dodging pedestrians who have little clue you are running super fast (and looking good while doing so, I might add) and about to overtake them? Yeah, you could shout out ‘On your right!’ or ‘On your left!’ every single time, or you could have this Runbell to pleasantly alert those in front of you. Ding ding! Take a look at the video below, or go to Kickstarter to back the project (5 days left).

Backpocket Phone Wallet

We’ve discussed minimalist wallets before, and this Backpocket Phone Wallet should join the list. The silicone sleeve sticks on to the back of your phone or phone case for a secure spot to store some cash and/or credit cards. It appears to work better than a thick rubber band (raise your hand if you’ve tried that before) and it’s almost as cheap. Well, okay, it’s almost as cheap as a bag of heavy duty rubber bands.

Impossible Instant Lab

Just one more thing today from the Kickstarter at MoMA collection, I promise. The Impossible Instant Lab is now available, and you’ve got better self restraint than most of us if you can resist the temptation of having your own photo lab at your fingertips. Here’s how it works: select a picture from your device using the Instant Lab iOS App, place it on the Instant Lab, and wait a few moments. You’ll see an analog photo appear and develop, just like the Polaroids from way back when. High five to the Impossible Lab for making this project a reality.
