Twig Stool

Some might perceive as this stool as a borderline objet d’art, yet the vertical branch is actually quite useful as a hat or coat rack, or even for back support. In a more commercial or museum setting, several stools grouped together appear as a ” field of stylized grass”… sounds nice.

Made of natural beech wood.
Note: Available for a limited time only.

Tie-1-on Chair

Oh, beanbags. Just when you think you’re sick of them, this outdoor version makes you think twice. Nylon web strapping on the sides means you can tie chairs together for a loveseat or sofa, or even a chaise if you add the ottoman. Now, the red isn’t for everyone, of course, but it is relatively inexpensive, and for (modern-ish) outdoor seating options that’s few and far between.

Primary Desk by Nathan Yong

This desk is an odd sort of fellow with its angles and points and slim drawers. Inspired by mid-century furniture in the designer’s childhood, the desk looks both classic and futuristic, which by no means is an easy task. Solid walnut makes for a sturdy frame with just enough worktop space for a small computer and writing space, and five drawers are available to squirrel away odds and ends. There’s also another thoughtful detail worth mentioning: the angle of the top drawers allow for the pitch of an open laptop.

Splice Stool

The inspiration behind this sustainably sourced birch ply stool was angular shapes seen around ships and dockside machinery. The stool can be used in a commercial or residential setting indoors or out, and it’s stackable, which makes it all the more appealing. Keep in mind that it’s made to order though, so it could take a few weeks.

Easy Edges Low Table Set

For this Thursday’s design classic we have Frank Gehry’s Easy Edges Low Table Set. You’ll probably recognize these, as Gehry is well known for using cardboard to make several pieces (Wiggle Chair, Wiggle Stool) of the Easy Edges Collection. Of course, most the world recognizes Gehry for his architecture rather than his use of a rather humble material in surprisingly sturdy furniture.

Blox Mango Table

This table has the nice detail of asymmetric legs to set it apart from other clean lined dining options. Plantation grown solid mango wood makes for a warm wood grain, and the price of $499 means there’s some room in your budget for chairs too.

Semigood Design Rian Cantilever Bench

Although we’ve posted designs by Semigood before I thought they could use a revisiting. The Semigood Designs are built to order in heirloom quality, so you can pretty much expect to have this for the rest of your adult life. This piece would be great in an entry hall.

Mario Bellini Le Bambole sofa for B&B Italia in 1973

I’m obsessed with the Le Bambole sofa for B&B Italia. Before you get your hopes up, this particular piece is sold out. However, if you’re patient, you may find one at an online auction site or at a resale shop. Also, the chair was rereleased by B&B Italia in 2007.

Matera Armoire by Sean Yoo

Sigh. If I lived in a loft instead of a house built in 1913 which needed oodles of work, I’d be buying a couple of these and call it a day. $5000 actually seems cheap compared to the work I have ahead of me.
