The Floyd Platform Bed

Remember this bed? We posted it back in 2015 when it was a Kickstarter project, and now it’s available as a hardware kit as well. That allows you to source your own panels from your local hardware store, or, for the more adventurous, maybe even from a salvage yard. Pretty fun and very affordable, seeing as the hardware kit starts at $265 for a queen bed.

Hideaway Folding Guest Bed

Winter brings holidays and those holidays usually bring guests. That may or may not be something you enjoy, especially if you’re short on space. Here’s something that might make your younger* guests a little more comfortable without taking up too much room the rest of the year. The Hideaway Folding Guest Bed is like a suitcase when closed (with a convenient handle for carrying) and can be used as a ottoman or be stored under a bed or in a closet. Open up the triple-fold mattress for a comfortable sleeping space for one, no fussing about with an air pump or a leaky air mattress.

Nest Queen Storage Bed

Remember how I shared that I am building a lake house? Well, that endeavor also involves finding furniture to fill that lake house somewhat soon. I am against the idea of filling up a house all at once, because schedule constraints should not force one’s hand when it comes to collecting pieces that one will live on/around for the next several decades of one’s life. Plus, do you really need every room to be stuffed full? No, of course not. Personally, I like furnishing a home bit by bit, adding a piece here and there only when you need (or badly want) it.

Frame Hi Bed

As you get older, do you feel like your taste in furniture becomes more expensive? If so, let’s commiserate together. I’m trying to settle on furnishings for a lake house, and it’s been a continual push and pull between budget constraints and nicer items of quality. Case in point, do I splurge on beds, as they’re the main item in a bedroom, and thus will most likely be there forever? Or do I settle for a pretty good alternative, as I’ll probably be the only one that notices the finer details between the two? Hmm, choices.

Frame Canopy Bed

Huh? This seems like a price too good to be true for a canopy bed. I always thought Room&Board’s Architecture Bed was the best price in the business, but now this Frame Canopy Bed just might take the spot. Canopy beds are excellent for creating a room within a room, which is very suitable for large rooms with high ceilings. Will you get tired of the the brass plated corners after a few weeks years? Maybe, but whenever that happens, there’s more than enough DIY guides on painting brass that will fix that. A quick spray primer on the brass parts and then another contrasting color (dark blue?) would look fantastic.

Simple Bed by Kalon Studios

You know, if you’re looking for something in particular, you can email us and we’ll keep our eyes out for whatever particular thing you’re searching for, right? As in, if you were looking for a Simple Bed, which is the name of this simple bed from Kalon Studios, I would happen to come across it while planning to post their Caravan Divan Twin, and immediately post this bed instead so that you’d know about it as an option.

Superfront Legs

You might have heard of Superfront, but did you know they have legs that fit Ikea’s mattress bases? And those legs can be shipped to North America? That means you can get a sharp look for a whole lot less than buying a regular bed from a decent retailer. There’s five leg styles to choose from in lots of different colors, so have some fun and play around with what you’d pick for a bedroom upgrade.

Camp Bed

Why are you seeing a camp bed in the dead of winter? Because it’s one heck of deal for one heck of a nice looking camp bed, that’s why. State-of-the-art patented hinges and galvanized spring steel legs combine with a water-resistant, machine washable cover to support up to 350 pounds. For travel, camping, or for your overnight guests, this is a temporary bed that could be left out (maybe?) more permanently as a day bed in a room if you don’t mind a utilitarian look mixed with your everyday furnishings.

Station Queen Bed

Need a new bed? Blu Dot’s Station Bed features a padded upholstered headboard and a durable steel frame. Don’t worry if pink (or gingham) is not your favorite color (or pattern) as there are various options to choose from- four headboard fabrics and two frame colors, to be exact.

Supra Bed

Woven cane usually is an attribute of more traditional furniture, but there’s a few movers and shakers that are mixing things up and applying it to modern designs. This Supra Bed designed by Mermelada Estudio incorporates perforated woven cane into the curved headboard, giving texture and warmth to an architectural oak grid.

Plush Bed

It’s not my job to save you money (or is it?), but if you’re looking for a decently priced (and minimal/modern) bed, you might just want to take a gander at the Plush. You can save a couple of hundred dollars- until June 9- on either the grey or natural color options, leaving you a little extra money to splurge on, say, perhaps some new summer bed linens?

Oak Nordic Bed

Sometimes you might settle for sub-par furniture. That’s acceptable in some cases, but certainly not for a piece of furniture you’re going to sleep on for a third of your lifetime. The Oak Nordic Bed by Ethnicraft is made from sustainably farmed solid oak that is kiln dried to assure stability (think twice about any piece that doesn’t use kiln dried wood) and includes hardwood support slats. There’s also quite a few similarly spare accompanying pieces (Oak Nordic Night Stand ($500), Oak Nordic Chest of Drawers ($2,500), Oak Nordic Dresser 2 Doors ($3,600)) if you need some extra storage.

Stowaway Bed

Under the bed storage is nothing new, nor are drawers built into the bed itself. But chalkboard drawers beneath a platform bed are something a little new as they provide some labeling fun (maybe you’d be more motivated to organize given there’s chalk involved?), and might just be the upgrade you’re looking for if your bedroom is short on storage.

Woodrow Bed

Nice. The slight angles and simple treatment of both head and footboards make this bed a good choice for a modern bedroom- especially if you’re not a fan of upholstered frames. Made from a combination of solid walnut and walnut veneer, with wood slats. Available in four sizes (king, queen, full and twin).

Atwood Bed

Hmm, what do we have here? Reclaimed peroba wood gives a nice rustic modern vibe, but it’s really the built in bench/bookshelf that caught my eye. Dovetail joints and just enough storage space for books gives it extra points over other platforms. Perhaps it’s not the best choice for very small bedrooms (or very small budgets), but it sure would do well when a strong presence is needed.
