If you need some character in a room- as in a big chunky side table or stool- here it is. HollerDesign brings us the Beam table and/or stool; it pretty much nails the rustic modern look with its interesting joint (see pic below) and hand charred finish.

Update: This is on sale in black, blue, and silver at Fab.com for $99 (for a limited time, of course).
This Duo bookshelf gives an illusion of lightness to your books. Could be a great option for above your nightstand if you’ve got a huge stack of books taking up all your table space. Holds up to 22 lbs.

This colorful table and stool by UM Project would be a great choice for occasional tables. Whether you choose to go monochrome or mix colors, the duo-tone finish would add interest and warmth to a room. It’d be smart to use the sturdy stools as side tables and then use as extra seating when needed.

This piece would be perfect for tucking away a home office. The size is big enough to hold a computer, accessories and files, yet it’s not too large… as in, it’s not a wooden behemoth crouched in the corner of your living room. There’s the mid century feel that most of us are fond of, and it’s handcrafted (domestically) of solid cherry wood, which means it’ll last long enough to pass down to your children/relatives.

I’ve always been a fan of furniture with simple, clean lines, and so it’s no surprise that this Celine Desk caught my eye. One drawer hides away clutter and, on the right, an open cubby provides a nice spot for a stack of papers or folders. Before anyone comments: yes, it does look a little West Elm-ish, but I’d bet/hope that the quality is three times as nice and that it’d last a lot longer. The designer Nazanin Kamali was inspired by mid century architecture.

Four narrow boards bend to form this very simple chair. Interestingly enough, you can create your own hybrid design if you own multiple colors, as it’s easy to disassemble and reassemble. It was originally created for the Danish Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, and you can read more about it at KiBiSi and HAY Denmark.

Do you have an extra 3 grand lying around? If so, you could spend it on this handcrafted bar cabinet by urbancase. It has a sliding panel on the front that reveals compartments inside (perfect for glassware) plus a drop front drawer and a pull-out drawer for tools and such. Mostly it’s a great looking cabinet that doesn’t necessarily look like a liquor cabinet… and, there’s got to be some sort of pleasure in opening it up for the big reveal when you have guests.

This solid plastic chair has a forward-tilt action that will help your health apparently: it straightens the pelvis and spine and thus improves circulation to the abdominal and back muscles. Whether that influences your decision to buy one, many, or none at all, I do have to say it has a nice silhouette that would work well in a dining room or office area. Plus, it’s stackable and comes in 6 different colors.

Hmm, this chair from Room & Board has a quiet sort of beauty, doesn’t it? It has just enough mid century modern flavor to keep it from being boring, yet it’s not something that screams ‘look at me, look at me’ when you first enter the room. It would be an excellent seating choice for a low key area. You have a choice between solid maple, solid cherry, solid walnut or solid maple with ebony stain (do you get that it’s made from solid wood?).

By all means, if you’re able to make this yourself please do so. The price tag is a bit hard to swallow, I know, especially since it’s a beanbag in the shape of a tire and intended for kids. However, it is knitted wool, sewn to a polyester fleece, and has appropriate detailing that puts it well above, say, something you’d find on sale in the kid’s section at your local furniture store. And, of course, Bertjan Pot is the designer, so if you’re an admirer (I am) you’ll appreciate the concept, if not the price point.

Sustainable Mango wood plus a pop of hi-gloss red, and it’s adjustable (~ 4″) too… you can’t really go wrong with this barstool. At $149, it’s firmly in the affordable category, which is always nice to see, especially if you’re needing a trio.

Here’s a coffee table that puts an end to clutter: two hidden drawers reveal storage at each end, making a secret spot to stash away tv remotes, games, and reading materials. Not a bad price either. (There’s some assembly required, but I’m guessing it’s just attaching the legs.)
