Sprig Bar Stool

I’ve been a big fan of Council ever since they first hit the design scene, so it’s no surprise this Sprig Bar Stool has shot to the top of my favorite barstool list. A powder-coated steel frame will ensure durability, while a subtle angle at the seat back and front makes for comfortable seating. The overall minimal shape has a stainless steel footrest to make it a little more special, and you’ll be happy to note the barstool can be used indoors or outside.

Reso Armchair, Set of 2

If you’re very fond of the Bend Farmhouse, Bunny Lounge, or the Bertoia Side Chair, but find their price tags just a tad too high, you should add in the Reso as an alternative. The Reso Armchair is made of powder-coated steel that form a fanned back and straight seat slats. It may not have the same recognition of the previously mentioned chairs, but it is sold in sets of two, so split the $395 or $495 in half when considering the impact on your wallet. Pick from yellow, dark green, charcoal, or white.

However, if you’re after a longer, leaner look, you might want to consider digging into your wallet a bit more for the Profil Aluminum Wall Shelf by Jörg Schellmann. Quick-Step Stool

What’s the big deal about a simple step stool? Well, for starters, this Quick-Step Stool is made from solid oak and looks like the letter A in profile. That makes it easy on the eyes. The step may be used on either side and there’s a handle cut into the top, so that makes it quite functional. Easy on the eyes and functional? Yep, there’s your answer for those hard-to-reach higher-up spots in the kitchen or closet. It’s even nice enough to leave out for an extra seat or side table.

Afteroom Chair

Upon first glance, you may not notice that the Afteroom Chair only has three legs. If that’s the case, you’re forgiven, but sit up and pay attention. There’s something entirely appealing about reducing materials to the minimum, and that’s exactly what Stockholm studio Afteroom intended when developing this first chair for Menu. The flexible back support extends beyond the back of the seat, giving the chair an airy, open appearance. Quality materials and Afteroom’s minimalist nod to functionalism make this chair a particularly smart choice for any dining or office environment.

Keep Table

Why are you seeing the image of an artfully messy room? Because of the table, of course. As you can probably tell with your keen eyes, the Keep Table from Muuto is made from pieces of wood held together with metal bands. You’ll be happy to hear that those pieces of are leftovers from wood furniture production, and because of this, each table is unique. Winner of Muuto’s 2009 Talent Award, the Keep Table was a senior project of design students Petter Thörne and Anders Johnsson from Konstfack School of Design in Stockholm.

Slow Chair & Ottoman

Whenever I see the Slow Chair by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec for Vitra, I am reminded of the Maison Flottante where the chair is shown prominently as the main living area seating. Would you believe that the inspiration behind the Slow Chair was ladies’ tights? I’m sure you can, as the strong, precisely shaped knit is stretched over the metal frame, quite similar to a fitted stocking. This sling cover provides soft, ergonomic support and gives a lightweight appearance despite its generous proportions.

Chieftains Chair

When we originally posted the Chieftains Chair designed by Finn Juhl, it was 2011 and it cost $11,500. Today’s price finds it at $17,175, which, unfortunately, is much higher than the rate of inflation. And so goes the world of design classics and their price fluctuations.

Inspired by primitive weaponry, Juhl originally created the chair for the 1949 Cabinetmakers’ Guild in Copenhagen. I’ve long admired this chair, and while the price is firmly outside of any budget I might have in the foreseeable future, I can still appreciate the slight curves and teak and walnut frame that have made it one of the more iconic pieces of mid century design.

Color Block Bookcase

I’m not one for too much color in my own home; grays, browns, and blacks are normally my choice of furnishings. That said, this Color Block Bookcase looks awfully tempting as a storage solution with its soft color palette of grey, powder blue, yellow and red/orange. At first glance, the shelves almost look like translucent glass, yet instead the color is hand-applied enamel poured over smooth, metal shelves.

Marmoreal Collection by Max Lamb

Like the look of this side table? Well, tough, you can’t have it. Just kidding, you can have it, you just need to fork over $3Gs for it. Marmoreal is an engineered, multipurpose marble developed by Max Lamb (and facilitated by Dzek), and is comprised of large chunks of Italian marble fragments— in the palette of green, red, ochre, and white you see above. It’s stronger than natural marble as polyester resin bonds the material together. You might hate it, you might love it, but one thing’s for sure, it will certainly set the tone in whatever room it’s in. A few more pieces of the collection shown below.
