Not everyone can afford super expensive lighting, especially when that lighting might be going in, say, a kid’s bedroom or guest room. They should just be happy they’ve got a light to read by, right? So, here’s a break for you: five sconces under $150. Yep, you read that right, no zeros are missing. Now, I can’t vouch for the quality, so keep that in mind… though, usually you get what you pay for, in my experience.

Okay, so, back to work*. How fun are these Female Support System brass wall hooks by Kaye Blegvad? They’re laser cut from solid brass and work best in pairs (two facing each other, of course). Best for jewelry, towels, and other lightweight clothing. Pretty fun.

With all the news coverage of the flooding in Houston, it’d be silly not to assess your disaster preparedness plan. Do you have one? Do you have the necessary food, water, and gear, just in case your city is hit with a natural (or man-made) disaster? And, considering most of us rely on our mobile phones, do you have a solar and/or hand crank charger? If not, now’s the time to get one, so you can at least be certain you can power up your device if the electrical grid fails you.

Sure, Botanica offers smaller Moss Sanctuaries, but it’s the medium size that may fit your favorite plant best. With a marble base and polycarbonate top, it’s a nicer planter than you’ll find at any garden supply shop (correct me if I’m wrong). Their Sanctuary-S “mini-mossarium” is worth a look, as it easily fit on a desk and features a teardrop top to direct water back onto the foliage.

Okay, so maybe this is leaning a little too far into dorm room decor for some of us, but can you see the potential? It’s a really large print of the California coast on fabric. Maybe you hang it on the wall, or maybe you throw it over the back of an unsightly sofa until you get around to recovering it. You could even stretch it over a frame for a slicker art look. This lantern is strange, and that’s probably why we like it. The handmade terracotta lantern has a handle on its backside to make it easier to move around- perhaps to and fro your outdoor dining area and inside? Okay, this is kind of fun: it’s a puzzle featuring a satellite image of your home. You’ll get to see an area of 1 mile north-to-south and 1.5 miles east-to-west, and there’s a few irregular pieces thrown in to keep it special (the letters H-O-M-E, and a house-shaped piece right where your home is located).
