The Public Radio by Centerline Engineering

There’s not much time left to back this project (eek!), but it’s better to post it now than never. For radio monogamists, The Public Radio by Centerline Engineering is the perfect pairing. It’s a single station FM radio in a Mason jar, pre tuned to your favorite station. There’s only an on/off/volume button, an antenna, and the radio, all housed in/on a Mason jar. No complications, no tuning, just the one station you tune into most.

Mezzo Radio

Who’s this little guy? Designed by Ionna Vautrin for Lexon, this Mezzo Radio is a modern take on vintage radios. Measuring in at 5.5″ long, 3″ wide and 1.5″ deep, it’s a friendly size to tote around, so you’ll have your radio or playlist to keep you company whether you’re working in your kitchen or hanging out at a campsite. A silicone rubber case ensures durability and there’s an output for MP3 players, of course.

Flow Radio and Speaker

What is this odd, clear plastic box that looks like something familiar? Note the round speaker, and the dial on top.. that’s right, it’s a portable FM radio and amplifier, if you can believe it. The transparent casing enhances the minimalist design, with a light to indicate that the unit is turned on (green) or that the power is low (red flashing). Includes four AA batteries, or use an AC adapter (not included).

There’s still the analog AM/FM tuner, so you can switch back and forth from regular radio to your music library on your device as quick your listening preferences require. Geneva WorldRadio

Let me tell you a little story. One of these showed up last week for me to review, and, as I’m not especially excited by radios, it sat in its box for approximately a day until my husband noticed it. Then, being an audiophile, he promptly started opening the box like a kid on Christmas morning, and asked me while doing so if I got to keep it. Nope, I said, I have to return it after I review it.

Geneva XS Sound System

Don’t wet your pants just yet, the Geneva XS Sound System is not the cheapest thing around. However, it is small enough to travel with, and especially suited for such with a clamshell case that flips open. Never mind that, you’re thinking, get to the goods. There’s the digital FM clock radio and Bluetooth® for wireless audio streaming (of course) and then there’s the alarm clock and illuminating touch-sensitive controls. A rechargeable battery will keep you in business for five hours of play time. Okay, now you have permission to wet your pants.

Solarlink Radio

Can you think of a few situations where you might need one of these? Every time I see a wind up radio I think of 28 Days Later, and then quickly replace the thought with how handy it would be for particularly stormy days or camping.

Cardboard Radio

Love this. It’s a cardboard radio by designer Christopher McNicholl and SUCK UK. At the end of its life, the cardboard can be recycled (just keep it away from water until then). For more details, visit SUCK UK. (I’ll keep my eyes out for a US retailer, fyi.)
