Fiore Flatlight

I really like the idea of stuff that arrives flat, and, within minutes, suddenly becomes a light. Made of PVC and steel, this light is pretty and nice and not-so-expensive for those of us watching our budget. Made in Sweden.

Designed by Dick Lundgren, 2002

Size: 14.75h x 7.5w x 7.5″ diam.

Pile Wine Rack

Harry Allen has some pretty good designs, and this wine rack is one that I wouldn’t mind owning…

“Harry Allen’s whimisical and practical 2005 release in the Reality Series is a polyster resin cast of a joined wine bottles which have been sliced in half. The resulting object forms the base for creating or presenting stacked wine bottles.”

Available in matte black or gypsum white.

Bingo Pouf with Tray Table

I love multi-purpose furniture and the Bingo Pouf is just that. It’s a table that converts to seating/lounging/sleeping furniture in seconds.
“By easily unfolding the Bingo, a full-length sleep surface is created for impromptu guests. High-density foam provides a firm, non-collapsing surface for both seating and sleeping. The upholstery is a weave of wool and synthetic fibers for combined durability and softness.”

Made in Denmark.

Available in red or charcoal.

Price: $348.00

Pocket Mod

I was torn as to whether to put this in the “Tech” category, because the process is somewhat “tech” but the result is decidedly low-tech.

If you’ve been looking for a free alternative to a PDA, you should give PocketMod a shot. It is a flash interface which allows you to organize your information in a way that would be most convenient for you.

“The PocketMod is a new way to keep yourself organized. Lets face it, PDA’s are too expensive and cumbersome, and organizers are bulky and hard to carry around. Nothing beats a folded up piece of paper. That is until now. With the PocketMod, you can carry around the days notes, keep them organized in any way you wish, then easily transfer the notes to your PDA, spreadsheet, or planer.

The PocketMod is a small book with guides on each page. These guides or templates, combined with a unique folding style, enable a normal piece of paper to become the ultimate note card. It is hard to describe just how incredibility useful the PocketMod is. It’s best that you just dive in and create one.”

MUJI Tables

Now here are some tables that qualify as affordable, modern, and simple. An interesting tidbit from MoMA’s site:

“The name “MUJI” is derived from the Japanese phrase “Mujirushi Ryohin,” meaning “No Brand Goods.” Over the last 20 years, they have developed a worldwide following with a guiding philosophy that emphasizes innovative and simple materials, processes, and packaging.”

Ballistic Rose Pin

Mark my words, black is back. It went away for awhile, but it’s coming back for Fall. Especially for accessories. You know, the basics: shiny bracelets, big chunky necklaces, bulletproof rose pins, etc.

“The young New York artist/designer turns a delicate accent into a modern metaphor on love and safety. Made of black heavy-duty ballistic nylon, Wong’s “bulletproof” bloom is both a high-tech talisman for the tender-hearted and wry fashion statement.”

Bale Chair

This has been around the blogger’s block a few times, but I think it’s worth a little bit of talk here on our site. What to do with all those old newspapers? Or that huge stack of magazines? Well, make a chair out of it, of course! It’s not often that you’re involved in the design process of your furniture, so think about it. It’d be fun. And you could change it as often as you like.

“Each Bale Chair consists of a molded plywood seat shell and plywood base made from FSC certified wood veneers, nylon levelers and two recycled polyester webbing straps with steel buckles.”
