Miami Sofa

This reminds me of a much more expensive design but I can’t quite put my finger on which one. For the price, it’s an interesting shape and design, yet sadly it sports a rather unfortunate fabric.
(update: it was the Moel sofa by Ligne Roset that I was thinking of…thanks to Edgar for figuring that out.)

Sink down into this plush off white sofa and you may find yourself languishing in your contemporary living room longer than you ever imagined. The ribbed stitching adds visual interest, texture and an aura of Deco glam. Don’t forget the matching chair! Once again, modern design, style and comfort help you create your little bit of heaven on Earth. Padded solid wood frame. Fabric, in easy-care vinyl.

Teak Rough Storage Cupboard

For anyone that loves the idea of keeping tabletop items secured away in an actual cupboard, this collection hits the mark for any modernist. It could be the poorer man’s option of the Bulthaup b2 (though poor is a relative term in this case).

Teak Rough is a new collection that combines the rough texture of natural teak and the sleek surface of stainless steel. Combined they add modern and timeless design to any room in the house. The teak rough storage cupboard measures 46″ x 18″ x 63″ tall.

Herman Miller® Enchord™ Desk

This is an excellent example of a desk that will keep you on top of clutter, namely because there’s no place to stash it except in neat piles along the lower shelf. If that seems entirely implausible, the handy mobile cabinet keeps the clean lines yet has ample storage for your odds and ends.

Riverbed Saffron Embroidered Duvet and Shams

Sometimes simple white bed linens is all a room needs, but in this case the circle embroidery provides just enough detail to ward off any accusations of being boring.

Sanford Burrows’ streamlined designs are meticulously embroidered onto their linens, adding texture and warmth to each piece. The base is an Egyptian cotton fabric produced by one of Italy’s leading textile companies to ensure the finest quality and craftsmanship.

While techniques are traditional, Sanford Burrows designs are decidedly modern. White space and clean lines don’t overpower, but become an integral part of your design landscape.

Modern Farm Table

I have had a design crush on the Big Sur dining table from Crate and Barrel ($1399) for over a year now, but I think the West Elm modern farm table ($599) is a good contender and is a lot cheaper.

Now, buyer beware, the one from Crate and Barrel is made of solid wood and the one from West Elm is just veneer, and I’ve heard that the West Elm veneers are notoriously thin, so if you have kids and pets and expect the table to hold up to some serious wear and tear, I recommend the Crate and Barrel one. If you live alone then the one from West Elm may do just fine.

This may be the craziest thing I’ve seen all day. But, if you like the idea of working in a mobile pod then the Globus is for you.

Conco Lounge Chair by Michiel van der Kley

Look! It’s a poem about a chair:

Could a chair be as streamlined as the body of an aeroplane? A body that looks rounded, similar to a boulder being eroded for a long time in the sea before it reaches its ultimate shape. The base strengthens the lightness of the design by its shape. The knot is an aesthetical feature but also a technical detail. On the one side a point where all the curved lines meet and on the other side a place where the fabric can be held together.

Muji Aluminum Table

Remember how in the 90’s design was considered ‘modern’ if it was made out of stainless steel or some other metal? It was almost like a designer’s shortcut. It left a bad taste in my mouth related to anything masquerading as modern when it was just a regular product cast in metal. This, however, is certainly not the case with this lovely aluminum table from Muji. I love the subtle transition from the top of the table down to the slim line legs.

Muji, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

Galaxy Loveseat & Lounger

This actually looks quite comfortable despite the delicate appearance.

These transparent models are hand woven with golden sika (lighter version) or rattan splits (darker version). The foundation is composed of powder coated iron round bars and the cushions are filled with 3 inch thick FRD foam. The cushions are removable and an outdoor version of the lounger and chair are available.

Branch Table

This is one lovely table so I suppose it should come as no surprise that it hits right over the 3 grand mark.

Designed by Maurizio Marconato and Terry Zappa, the Branch Table (2007) has a hand-cut, hand-joined solid wood base that was inspired by Charles Paul Landon’s 1799 painting “Daedalus and Icarus.” In the painting, the shape of the mythological characters’ wings is both graceful and bold, which the designers captured in the shape of each end of their table. The glass top sits on the tips of these “wings” and the result is a sculpture of shapes, formed by positive and negative spaces. These angles, while at first glance decorative, also serve a functional purpose by maximizing legroom for friends and family gathering around the table. Whether seen from the side or above, the Branch Table has an inherent lightness that challenges the assumption that a solid wood base has to be bulky and overscaled.

Sawhorse Worktable

Compared to the Mason Glass Top Desk priced at $1,150.00 with similar trestle table legs, this worktable is quite a steal. (The $1,150.00 table has much chunkier legs, but if you’re on a budget, skinnier legs do the job just fine.)

“Modern industry. An expansive glass tabletop rests upon two sleek steel-plated legs with a black nickel finish. Simple assembly.”
