Native American Teepee

You just know your kitty cat(s) will love this recycled cardboard tipi, not because it’s recycled, but because it’s cardboard. (The teepee is much better to have around than a regular ol’ box, isn’t it?)

Cherner Credenza

From the same company that produces the Cherner Chair comes this plywood construction credenza. Plywood construction doesn’t sound so fancy, but who needs fanciness when you get sturdy, good looking storage that’s built to last? It’s got mitered joinery and molded plywood pulls and legs that speak of quality with a nice midcentury vibe that we all (or most of us) know and love.

The 244 Nest Chair by Autoban

Recently on a trip to Istanbul, I stayed at the The House Hotel in NiÅŸantaşı. I didn’t really take a lot of design notes (I was on vacation, after all), but it was pretty much impossible not to ‘ooo’ and ‘ahh’ over Autoban’s furniture and interior design. I’d seen this Nest chair in person before at trade shows, but it wasn’t until I saw it in the main area of the House Hotel did I fully appreciate how much of a statement piece it is.

Sure, it’s got the ‘statement piece’ price, but the chair acts as a sort of room on its own, mimicking the traditional dome chair shape, yet allowing light and air through the slats of the back and sides. It’s really an excellent choice for a large room that needs a pair of high backed armchairs to designate a seating area. Also, Contemporist has some good overview of photos of the hotel if you’re curious, or you can take a look via the website of The House Hotel in NiÅŸantaşı.

Runda Samsas Sofa

Dare I say that Carl Malmsten’s furniture is becoming trendy again? (Gasp.) I halfway despair when certain classic items become popular, because usually those cherished-from-afar pieces start to spread throughout every magazine and blog almost to the point that they lose some of their appeal. Now, in the case of this sofa, I have my fingers crossed that won’t happen. It’s just too elegant and timeless to succumb to that particular fate.

Respite by Tirsh Hunter

Ran across this cast concrete stool/side table while on Svpply yesterday. Considering the design and actual heft, I’d say $375 isn’t too bad of a deal. In fact, if I saw this in a high-design storefront, I would probably guess a much higher price tag. It can go outside in a patio or garden or be just at home next to a sofa. Another Country

Another Country has a lovely collection of handcrafted wood furniture. What you see is exactly what you get; there’s honest construction along with a pared back traditional style that’s refreshing to see. Each piece is produced by hand in a small workshop in Dorset, England.

Desile Folding Chair

Talk about a thin folding chair, this one by Christian Desile is less than an inch thick when closed. Maybe you like the sustainable bamboo, or maybe you’d like the Black/White Laminate ($375) which can be opened up either way so you can choose the preferred color (see pic below). Also worth mentioning is that the chair can be hung on the wall when closed as a sort of graphic wood artwork (if it’s to your taste). What’s most impressive though is that 100 chairs closed and stacked side by side takes up only 2 linear meters.

SR Bookcase

Do you remember Scout Regalia of garden box fame? Well, now they’ve introduced the first piece in their indoor furniture collection and it doesn’t disappoint. The SR Bookcase is available as a 1, 2, or 3 bay system, which means you can customize it to fit whatever space you need and there’s a whopping 210 paint colors and sealed wood options to choose from. Standing at 7′-8′ high with 5 shelves and 2 adjustable shelves within the base cabinets, I’d say it’s sure to fit a fair share of books and such.

Pratt Desk

I know sometimes west elm’s furniture doesn’t get the best reviews in terms of long lasting quality, but this desk is way too easy on the eyes and so incredibly affordable to pass by without a mention. Designed in collaboration with the students from Pratt Institue, west elm’s goal was to create an eco-friendly office furniture collection using FSC certified materials. Did they succeed? It sure looks like it. The Pratt File Cabinet ($179) and LED Table Lamp ($129) are worth checking out too.

Cubo by LOT61

Movable storage units are handy to have, especially if you get bored with the way your furniture is arranged or if you move around a lot. Just recently I ran across these Cubo storage units by LOT61, a small furniture workshop founded by Datumzero Design Office. Doesn’t mean much to you unless you’re in the biz, I guess, but they specialize in contemporary storage pieces, all of which are particularly nice and worth checking out if you’re in the market for consoles or credenzas. We’ll most likely do other posts on more of their collection soon.

Briq Stool

A polypropylene stool might not seem like a deal of the day, but this guy has got a lot going for it. It can be used indoors or out and can be stacked to save space. If you flip it upside down, it doubles as a storage bin for newspapers/magazines or kid’s toys, or even a cooler for beer or soda when filled with ice. Or you can choose to use it as a side table. Not too shabby for a cheerful little seating option.

The Briq Stool won the prestigious FORM Design Award in 2009.

Holly Shelf Bracket

While $175 for two shelf brackets seems a little steep in terms of price, there is something to be said for brackets that also double as super thin bookends. Two functions in one slim package sounds pretty good, especially if you think of the occasional avalanche of books due to an inappropriately placed bookend and how nice it would be to not worry about that sort of thing (ever) again… the price seems a tad bit more reasonable.

Ypsilon Dining Tables

Do a quick search for ‘Ypsilon Table’ online and you’ll find more than a handful of options, but I hazard a guess that there’s few that cost less than $500. This table is available in either a small round size or the larger rectangle, both coming in comfortably under the $500 mark with a little room to spare.

Toro Chair from Blu Dot

Olé, motherf#c!xr, indeed. Talk about a whole lot of bang for your buck, this chair from Blu Dot is one heck of a looker. A saddle leather sling in either natural or black (with accompanying white or black-stained beech frame) has a high end look with a downright affordable* price, especially if you figure in the 20% savings until November 8 (use promo code BLUDOT20 at checkout). That brings it down to $799 from the regular price of $999.
