Tom & Jerry Stools

Adjustable stools are great choices for kitchen counter bars, as they can accommodate all sorts of people- from wee kids to big adults. These two stools by Konstantin Grcic each feature a brightly-colored polypropylene screw mechanism where the height can be easily changed to suit the sitter. Simply spin the top to make it go up or down.

Supra Bed

Woven cane usually is an attribute of more traditional furniture, but there’s a few movers and shakers that are mixing things up and applying it to modern designs. This Supra Bed designed by Mermelada Estudio incorporates perforated woven cane into the curved headboard, giving texture and warmth to an architectural oak grid.

Y.bowl

If a regular sit-on-the-floor steel bowl for your furry friend just won’t work with your décor, you might be a little too concerned with details. That said, hello, nice to meet you, please sit down and join the club; your design obsessive tendencies are welcomed here. The Y.bowl from Doca Pet (literally) elevates the common steel bowl to a considered receptacle for your pets, and with different sizes and heights, you’re able to pick the perfect size. There’s also a fair bit of other similarly modern designs, Squaremeal being my second favorite.

Mails Woodwork

It’s rare that you get four or five pieces all from one designer in one post, but Ryan Mails of Mails Woodwork caught my eye with the clean lines and excellent craftsmanship of his heirloom-quality furniture. You’ll find all of his current items below with a few words from him describing what brought about each piece. Visit Mails Woodwork for more pictures and information (there’s a mailswoodwork Etsy shop as well).

Together Table, Extending

Remember the promise to feature a few more dining tables? Here’s one that doesn’t hide its extension feature. When the drop leaves are locked underneath, the table is rectangular, however, unlock the rounded ends and the table extends to fit more visitors for a larger meal. Plus, it’s from StudioIlse (Ilse Crawford, patron saint of perfect interiors), so you’re safe no matter which size you choose.

LAX 4×2 Bookcase

Do you know how annoying it is when books topple over for lack of bookends? Good, because that saves me from explaining why integrated dividers in a shelving system are a sanity saver. This particular bookcase in the LAXseries gets high points for its spare, simple lines and the natural finish on the solid English walnut wood.

The Floyd Leg

This is so smart I can hardly stand it. The Floyd Leg combines a table leg with a clamp- add four legs to any flat surface and you’ve got a table. Simple concept, yes, but a fine execution. There’s only 9 days to go before the campaign closes- take a look if you’re interested: The Floyd Leg on Kickstarter.

Swivel Work Stool

If you prefer your bar seating to have a little more character, you’ll not want to ignore the Swivel Work Stool by Unionmade. Designed after vintage industrial stools, the heavy steel frame is powdercoated in Reed Green and supports a walnut swivel seat. If you’re not too fond of the color, the Fixed Work Stool in Pewter is a good alternative.

Twin Beds

Some friends of mine have asked for help in finding acceptable twin beds for their children, so I sat down and combed through a few retailers to find some good possibilities. Just in case you’re in the same boat, here are a few of my recent bookmarks. In most cases, fabrics and colors may be customized, and, in some cases, trundles added, so click on the retail links to see all the options.

Kids ErgoErgo

You’ve seen the ErgoErgo Stool*, haven’t you? Now little ones have their own version: the Kids ErgoErgo. Active sitting encourages ‘micro-movements’ and that means increased concentration- and we all know that kids could use a little more of that at home or in school. With six colors to choose from, kids can pick their favorite hue or mix it up with several different ones around a small table.

Apis vs. Gus Modern Wireframe

Here’s a little wireframe rivalry for you: which do you like better, the top or bottom coffee table? One costs $349 and the other just over $800. You can probably use your head to figure out which one’s which, but here’s the info just in case you lack the brain power:

Lineage Dining Table

A recent search for a new dining table for my own home revealed a lack of current options here on BLTD, so, in order to fix that, you’ll be seeing a few more tables featured here in the very near future. If you’re also in the market for a dining table, and your budget is quite happy with somewhere around the one grand price point, this Lineage Dining Table could be a good fit. Designed by Italian design team IVdesign.it, the Lineage Table is composed of sustainable acacia wood cut in a dramatic oval with angled antiqued iron legs for a sculptural metal base. Seats up to 10.

Loft Dresser

I know not everyone has $3,400 to spend on a dresser, but this one is from Chadhaus, and, considering their quality craftsmanship (their furniture is handcrafted in Seattle with sustainably-harvested woods), it’s no surprise to see a higher price tag. The clean, classic lines of this storage piece will never go out of style; long after you appreciate the under-mounted mechanical slides and solid wood drawers, you’ll be able to pass it along to the next generation.

Holy Stool

This stool is a familiar riff on the Milking Stool by UM Projects we posted a few years ago, yet with this variation, the legs are a bit farther apart for stability. So, sit on it, put your feet up, or use it for drinks and books, and know that it won’t topple over easily. The legs are dipped in ultra-matte lacquer for a bright contrast.
