Typography Mugs

Excuse me while I geek out over this Bauhaus Typography mug- there’s also one for you Helvetica nerds, so keep your pants on. Even though some of us might already know the year of the design, the designer, and the type size, those details are printed upon the bone china mug so that everyone else may be educated as to two of the most popular typographies’ factoids. Would this make a great gift? Most certainly.

Variopinte Plates

How about some colorful dinnerware for this season’s festivities? Variopinte* enamel plates were created as part of the A TAVOLA! project, where Stefania Di Petrillo created a dining room that’s easily transported via a clever packing plan/container. The plates are available in three sizes and can be stacked or used separately. Best of all, the enamel is durable enough to use outdoors should you fancy a picnic.

Entomo Dinnerware

How about some creepy-crawlies alongside your dinner? Might sound unappetizing, but the pattern is delightful. Black butterflies and beetles provide such a nice pattern on bone china; a few of these plates or mugs are sure to find their way into any entomologist’s (amateur or professional) hands. The mug would make an especially excellent gift, by the way.

Table Tiles

Products that have an illusion of a 3D surface through use of color go straight in the ‘favorites’ folder, and this set of six coasters from Bower is no exception. Arrange them as a group in “endless permutations”- fun, right?- and also for function as a trivet. Choose between black/beige, green/gray, or red/blue.

Sottsass Twergi Spice Grinders

These bright Twergi Spice Grinders have a vintage appeal that’s bound to stay timeless thanks to their classic wood-turned shapes and bold red/black/yellow color scheme. Italian designer Ettore Sottsass and his team of designers were responsible for Alessi’s range of wooden products during the 80s and 90s, and, thankfully, they created these beech wood grinders that highlight some of the wiser color combinations of two rather daring (and some might say questionable) design decades.

Design Letters Arne Jacobsen Kids Cutlery Set

Do you think people would look at me funny if I chose to eat all of my meals with a kids’ cutlery set? Not if they recognized Arne Jacobsen’s typography, right? This four-piece alphabet cutlery set is pretty cute, and, if I had kids, I would insist they use these until they could say the alphabet forwards and backwards. This set was designed by Arne’s grandson Tobias Jacobsen, and belongs to the Design Letters tableware set.

Roll Bottle Opener

You would be forgiven for thinking this solid brass object is a bracelet, for the size could very well fit around a fashionable wrist. However, it’s a bottle opener, and it will help you pry off the top of your beverage with little effort. And, considering its jewelry-like appearance, you could even keep it out on a counter or bar area without looking like a slob.

Teaball Teapot

As a self-proclaimed tea junkie, it’s difficult to describe just how important certain tools in the tea making process can be. If you’re dealing in loose tea, some infusers can be irritating in that they’re hard to clean, and, if they’re hard to clean, you’ll probably get fed up and not use them anymore (which is the case with several infusers in my top kitchen drawer at the moment). Now, this Teaball Teapot is easy to clean- it has a removable stainless steel infuser- but it also looks extremely nice to hold and use, and I’d say that’s almost as (if not more?) important.

Wine Twirls

If you enjoy white or rosé wine, then you’re probably familiar with the ideal serving temperature. Now, unless you live somewhere quite cold most of the time, there’s the issue of keeping your glass at that ideal temperature until it’s finished. Sure, you can keep the bottle on ice, but what about the actual glass? That’s the point of these Wine Twirls: they chill your wine in the glass without dilution. They’re made of food-safe resin (BPA-free FDA-approved) and a high-tech thermal gel and rest at the bottom of the glass so as to not interfere with each sip.

Avva Small Tumblers

Any self-respecting whiskey drinker isn’t going to pour their water of life into any ol’ glass… unless the circumstances are quite dire, and then, of course, it is permissible to drink directly from the bottle. On normal and/or celebratory evenings, be sure to treat your whiskey well by drinking it from a receptacle like these mouth-blown, non-lead crystal glasses. One nests inside the other for storage, and, as you may have guessed, their shapes enhance the body of your beverage.
