Droog Optic Glasses

Here’s another item from long ago that’s worth remembering the next time your drinking glasses need a reboot. Droog’s optic glasses have both concave and convex lenses and create an optical fun house in your hand. Also, the structure supposedly feels quite comfortable to hold.

ET HOP Hors D’Oeuvre Tray

While this might be a little above your budget, it does look entirely handy for hors d’oeuvres for a small get together or party. A wood carrying rack allows for 5 bowls of different heights to be carried together, and when you place the bowls and rack down, the bowls sit on the table and reveal their topography. See video below.

Doodle Tablecloth

Don’t go thinking this tablecloth is just for kids- it would be just as fun at a dinner party or outdoor cookout. After you scribble and scrawl your masterpiece or menu and your guests/family have had their fill of fabric markers, throw the tablecloth into the washer and you’ll soon have a blank canvas for your next event.

Dino Salad Servers

If getting greens into your family’s diet is hard work, maybe these two Dino Servers will help make the salad bowl a little more friendly, and even a little fun. And, if these two cute little smiles aren’t successful in increasing the vegetable intake at your table, at least they’ll cheer you up whenever you pull them out of the drawer.

Kebo Bottle Opener

It’s safe to say that if you’re opening a bottle you should probably have both hands on board, but we’ll make one small exception for this bottle opener. Now your other hand can be free to wave at your friends, show off your other bicep or your amazing coordination skills (juggling?), or perhaps it’s more likely that you’ll get two of these so you’ll look like a cowboy bartender with his/her sixshooters. That’s my vote. Rush Dixon, the designer, was inspired by the Theodore Low bottle opener from the 1930s.

Rosenthal Sugar and Creamer

Do you have a proper sugar and creamer set? Not the end of the world if you don’t, of course, but it’s something to consider if you use sugar and cream/milk consistently in your coffee or tea. It lends an air of civility, sure, but there’s something about enjoying the small pleasures and ceremonies of daily life and taking care to surround yourself with things that are both useful and, in some cases, also beautiful. (“Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” William Morris)
