Wall Pockets

Need a small container or two to hold those odds and ends? Check out these powdercoated, geometric Wall Pockets. They’d work well in the entryway for keys and mail or around your workspace to catch pens, pencils, and other supplies. And, yes, it’d be better if the mounting hardware wasn’t visible, but remember, each pocket is $9.

ISHUJA’s Eco-Essential Pen and Pencil

Are you sick of holiday shopping yet? Yeah, me too, but this might help. If you still have one impossible person on your list, and absolutely no idea what to get them, consider ISHUJA’s Eco-Essential Pen and Pencil Set.

Formerly a Kickstarter project, the set is now available for sale, and consists of one pen and one pencil, both with bamboo & aluminum bodies and a high-sensitivity stylus nib on each cap for tablet use. The set is appropriately gift boxed with a set of 5 color rings for identification. Not sure how long shipping will take, so do be sure to double check if you intend it as a Christmas gift.

Pencil Display Organizer

If you’ve ever had a bundle of pens, pencils, and/or markers beside you while drawing or sketching, you know how it takes a little bit of time to find the right implement each time you change your selection. That’s just where this Pencil Display Organizer by Elise Gabriel comes into the picture. Horizontally, it displays all your tools at once; vertically, it holds up to 100 implements and can be wall-mounted to save space on your desktop. If you need a kick in the pants to make next year better, maybe this agenda by Julie Joliat will be a good fit. Brass Alphabet Bookmark

Midori just keeps making brass desktop tools that are hard to resist. And this one packs a double function: use as a bookmark and as a stencil. Even if your handwriting isn’t all that bad, a little block lettering now and then won’t hurt, right? It’ll most likely fit perfectly within your notebook.

‘Errare’ Eraser

For those days when you really screw up, pick up this eraser and read the notable latin phrase aloud: “Errare humanum est.” That translates into ‘To err is human’ if you hadn’t guessed, and will make you feel just a tiny bit better about whatever mess you made. On a side note, you might as well get several, and give them away one by one to friends/coworkers when they need the same reminder.

Desk set, Matte Black

If there are multiple paperclips and post-it notes scattered about your desk, you and I have something in common. Maybe we should consider these handcrafted paper boxes by Timothy Wikander of MaterialMaterial. In addition to the desk set you see above, there’s also a small box w/lid and a large box w/lid, any of which is sure to hide/store our miscellany with subtle style. Each box is constructed from 2 mm grey board (the same material used in hardbound book covers) and coated in smooth matte textured card stock.

MIDORI MD 2014 Monthly Notebook

It’s October already, and you know what that means. Besides getting your Halloween festivities sorted, your Thanksgiving plans arranged, and your subconscious started on options for special holiday gifts, you need to find a decent monthly planner for 2014. No? Lucky you. Yes? Join the club. I’ve been on the quest to find the perfect (i.e. minimal) monthly planner for what seems like forever, and though Moleskine and others have come close, I think this one by MIDORI (and available from Baum-Kuchen) might just win first place for 2014.

With plenty of negative space on each monthly calendar, there’s oodles of room to make notes. Memo pages are divided into eight sections for optional weekly pages and there’s plenty of blank pages for extra sketches or notes. Last but not least, the MIDORI Monthly Notebook is bound by strings, so the planner opens flat for easier writing and perusal.

Luis Organizer

I’ve long admired the Uten.Silo, but somehow can’t bring myself to pay the $475 for organized bliss. The Luis Organizer isn’t a whole lot less in terms of the damage done to your wallet, but it provides the same sort of function with a minimal, geometric purity, and is handmade in Barcelona by OLI13 (so you won’t see it around as much, if you care about that sort of thing).

Roll / Rule

Hold your hand up if you want an etched acrylic ruler. My hand is raised, how about yours? Designed by Paul Cocksedge, these rulers are sculptural pieces with millimeter accuracy, and they’re intended for functional use, mind you, so don’t just admire it from across the room. Choose between the classic square or the round barrel. Also, do I need to hit you over the head with the obvious fact that either of these would make an excellent gift? No? I didn’t think so.

The Pattern Box: 100 Postcards

If you like patterns and postcards, you’d best snap up this box set now. Curated by New York City’s Textile Arts Center, this collection has one hundred designs from ten international designers. I’d be tempted just to keep it as a pattern resource for inspiration purposes, but then it’d be a shame not to share such interesting postcards with friends and family (and postal workers, of course).

Manual Paper Shredder

No electricity needed, just a little elbow grease and your sensitive documents and bills are shredded lickety split. Let me guess, you like that a) it uses manual labor rather than electricity, b) you won’t need to worry about your tie/necklace getting caught and potentially strangling you, c) you’ll finally get some exercise, d) your workspace will be rid of that loud paper shredder noise, or e) all of the above.
