Handmade Ceramic Carafe Set

How about a handmade carafe or two (or three)? Carafes are the sort of thing you think you don’t need, and then when you have one you realize just how useful they can be. The larger sizes would be appropriate for water, juice, or wine at the table, while the smaller size could work for milk or cream during coffee/tea time. Made of French porcelain, these carafes are more durable than glass and have a matte finish that gives a nice texture and grip. Handmade by a small team in Sydney, Australia.

Royal VKB French Carafe Set

This carafe set has been around a while, yet we all need reminding that there’s no need for trays when it comes to refreshments. Just stack the four bistro glass tumblers on the carafe’s neck to make transport easy from the kitchen to table. And, don’t stop at water- the updated (slightly shorter and wider) carafe available through the Royal VKB webshop is perfect for decanting and serving wine.

Si-Bottles and Lids, Set of 4

Yeah, you remember these, don’t you? They’ve been featured here before (years ago) and therefore need a fresh post with a link that works. They’re glass bottles in the same shape as the familiar plastic bottle, thus drawing attention to consumerism and reinforcing the reuse/recycle ethos. But it’s made of glass, you say, and will break! Not necessarily, as the bottles are made from borosilicate glass (the same stuff your Pyrex measuring cup is made of).

Menu Carafe with Neoprene Wrap

Sure, we featured this carafe way back in ’09, but now it has a neoprene wrap that insulates your beverage and makes it easier to hold. Other benefits: the carafe fits in a fridge door and its Smartlid opens automatically when you pour.

Motion Carafe

Seeing as it’s hot outside and will stay that way for a while yet, it’s best to keep hydrated. And what better way to keep water on hand than with a carafe? This Motion carafe by by Ole Jensen for Normann Copenhagen brings a little dynamic motion into the equation, as it is always in a tilted position. While the movement might take a while to get used to, it will attract attention to its function, as Ole Jensen intended.

Muuto Corky Carafe with Glasses

Carafes are often underrated, but possibly because there’s few that catch the eye and hold the attention (if only for more than a few moments). They’re extremely handy for keeping water or other refreshments at hand, and eliminate unnecessary trips to and from the kitchen or bar. This carafe set by Muuto is slightly oversized with a nice cork stopper that emphasizes the overall width and shape. Andreas Engesvik, the designer, was inspired by the archetypical bottle, and the familiar form is sure to work just as well at home as in the office.

Meeting Carafe and Glasses

If you’re a minimalist that likes a little bit of decorative detail, perhaps you’ll like the Meeting collection from Sagaform. Subtle black stripes surround the base of a carafe and a couple of stacking glasses, making a nice set for having a drink (of water or something stronger) at home or the office.

Stainless Steel cup/carafe Set

Similar in usage to the French Stacking Carafe, this Stainless Steel Carafe set has cups that stack and nest within the mouth, allowing for easy transport to and from the table. However, unlike the glass of the French Carafe, this 1 litre double-walled carafe will keep your drinks at the temperature you want- hot or cold.

Ice Carafe

All you do is freeze a little water in this carafe (on its side), then once it sets, you fill the rest of the carafe up with water and watch the ice slowly release. It’s a smart idea for streamlining the cold drink process.

Water Carafe with Smartlid

If you’re still enjoying warm weather, take note of this carafe: it keeps extra ice cubes and such in the carafe with a ‘Smartlid’, which will save you from that awkward ice avalanche when serving your guests.

Jakob Wagner reinterprets the typical bottle into a simple water carafe.
The discreet lid opens automatically when pouring, ensuring that ice cubes and lemon slices remain in carafe.
Lid made of silicone and stainless steel. Great for colored liquids as well as water.

Closely Separated Vase & I’m Boo Carafe

Two new(?) items from Muuto that I’m particularly liking are this vase and carafe.

Closely Separated Vase: (also available in yellow, 10.6″ h), $162.00,
Buy it here.

by Michael Geertsen for Muuto

Abstract bowls, plates and cups are merged in an intuitive way. Reminding us of the beauty in disharmony and how old things can lead to new, if we change our perspective. The object works on its own, but is given a function if flowers are added.

I’m Boo Carafe
: (3.39″ dia. x 10.8″ h), $94.00, Buy it here.
by Norway Says for Muuto

Boo is like the skin, or a balloon surrounding the water with openings that tell the simple story of fluid motion in and out of the glass. The carafe exudes a strong personality, as if it’s saying “I’m Boo, who are you?”
