Grove Bamboo iPhone Cases

We featured wooden iPhone cases previously, but with the release of the new iPhone 4, why not show a few more? This particular line of products comes from Grove, a Portland, Oregon-based company specializing in bamboo iPhone cases. They are fully customizable by uploading your own artwork, or you can choose from the Artist Series, their curated selection of custom artwork from independant artists, or if you’re feeling plain, bare bamboo. Pocket Mirror

When you need to check your ‘do and there’s no mirror around, this little pocket mirror could be just the thing to have in your wallet. Sort of brings to mind the whole comb-in-the-back-pocket sort of look, which could be a good or bad connotation depending on your preference. Mirror is made from plastic, which means it’s light and flexible.

Designer: Pavel Sidorenko

Also, you must check out the Moustaches for sale too, as they’d be very entertaining to have around.

TM Inspiration Pad

If you’re in a creative rut and need some help thinking outside the box, this Inspiration Pad may be able to help. It throws away any standard line or grid system and in place of it are pages of zig zags, swirls, and non-sensical bends. Each page should inspire you to draw or write differently, or possibly give you a headache. Each notepad contains 32 pages and measures 165 x 210 mm.

E Ink Digital Hour Watch

So, while this watch face is pretty fetching, what is especially notable is that it switches every half hour from white-on-black to black-on-white display. There’s also two modes, one for standard numerical digital and the other for a graphic hour clock. All in all, it might just be the perfect watch if you’re the sort that gets bored easily.

Republic Bike

Republic Bike offers customized bicycles starting around the $399 mark. Not too bad of a price for us city dwellers that need an alternative transportation option. Plus, if you need something to sweeten the deal, there’s quite a few color options and components that you select to make your bike even more special. Take a look at the gallery for color inspiration.

Built to order.
Available in single speed or fixed gear.

Note: When I was in Stockholm, there were tons of people using old-ish city bikes for their daily transportation, which was very nice to see, but there was not one new, fancy/expensive bike that I see practically everyday in London. Our friends said that it’s because all the new bikes get stolen, so everyone opts for the nondescript. Interesting how cities differ, huh?

Hu2 Unplugged Laptop Sticker

I’m not usually one for decorating my gadgets, but there’s something appealing about this scrolly script sticker. It certainly would remind you in a pleasant way to unplug your laptop, and if you tire of the message, it’s completely removable.

Key Ring Paperclip

This seems like a smart alternative to normal key rings, if only for the reason of making the addition/subtraction of a key that much easier. The paperclip shape is a bonus, of course.

Cast alloy.

Boxal

It’s a cardboard picnic box. Might be just the thing for all your picnic outings this summer, as it has enough room to store your food plus the fully compostable utensils, plates, cups, containers and napkins that come with whichever Boxal you choose.

There’s also some suggestions of items and containers that go inside a Boxal, which is especially handy if you’re the type that appreciates a perfect fit; see their blog post Pack that in your Boxal & eat it.

Lacie Formoa and Coat Netbook Cases

Lacie continues its partnership with reknowned product designer Sam Hecht for a line of simple and stylish netbook cases. Shwood Sunglasses

Shwood is a designer and manufacturer of wooden framed sunglasses. Each pair is handcrafted in-house at their Portland-based workshop. Currently two styles are available: Canby and Govy, available in Maple, East Indian Rosewood (my favorite) or Zebrawood.  Each pair comes equipped with your choice of imported Carl Zeiss or polarized lenses. All their wood is sourced from authorized sustainably-harvested plantations.

At this point I’m sure you’re expecting some ridiculous prices for all these features, but they start at only $95. Very reasonable considering the quality and craftsmanship you’ll be receiving.

This makes me wants to wear contact lenses again just so I get a pair of these. Maybe I can put in prescription lenses? Hmm….

Viva Brass Bicycle Bell

As exciting as it is to come across new products and conceptual designs, more often that not it’s traditional and storied products that strike a chord with me. In this case, this bicycle bell was created by the Tokyo San-Esu Co in 1974 and is still in production today. When a product is so simple in function and perfect to begin with, it’s probably best to leave it alone. The brass bell and metal couplers have a level of timelessness and sophistication over today’s plasticky and cheap-feeling bicycle acessories. I may just have to pick one of these up at the Cooper Hewitt store while I’m still in New York this week…

Bent Basket

Designer Faris Elmasu couldn’t be more straightforward in his reasoning for creating the Bent Basket: “I was sick with what the market had to offer and thought that people deserve a better design”. I personally am in complete agreement with him. Bicycle accessories that are highly functional that are also stylish definitely are few and far in between. Anyways, the Bent Basket is a molded wood veneer bicycle basket/rack designed for 700c road bikes, and looks seriously cool. The carrying area measures 16 x 12.5”  and integrated nylon straps locks down your stuff during transport. No official price yet, contact the designer for purchasing info.

Material:
Handmade bent wood, aluminum frame, nylon straps.

16”L x 12.5W

Krv Kurva La.Ga Bags

I recently came across these awesome bags at the Moma Design Store in New York, but for some reason they’re not available at their online store. Luckily you can buy them directly from the designer. Anyways, the La.Ga is a Tyvek bag available in various custom prints. Tyvek feels like paper but is waterproof, tear-resistant, and because it’s plastic, recycleable. The large size of the bag and colourful graphics certainly make a bold statement. Be sure to check out their store to see the other styles.
