Alter Ego Frio

Clean water can be hard to come by in many parts of the world and, unfortunately, also in some places here in the United States. The Alter Ego Frio has filtration technology that provides the greatest reduction per contaminant. What does that mean? Well, it removes everything that’s harmful in your H2O so you only taste clean, contaminant-free water. That could be especially handy on camping trips, and maybe even on your daily commute.

Kime Shoe Horn

Do you sometimes need a shoe horn? You know, that thing that helps you put on your nice shoes without crushing their heels? If so, get this one, because it’s beautiful. Perfectly symmetrical and carved from a single piece of wood, the Kime Shoe Horn appears to be an art piece rather than a functional tool. Lucky for us, it’s both. “Kime” means texture or wood grain in Japanese and is the name of the collection.

FIXR Pocket Tool

The MacGyvers among us won’t be caught without a decent EDC kit, because you just never know when you may need more than a paperclip. The FIXR may not be the most streamlined, but when you’re in a jam, you’ll at least have a hell of a lot of tools to get you out of trouble. It packs 20 tools into one easy-to-hold and easy-to-attach little gadget.

How To Live Canvas Tote Bags

I’m a mind reader. I know you’re thinking that these canvas tote bags are sort of expensive, and they are… sort of. But, look close at the bottom seams and handles, and you’ll see a bag built for daily use. Each bag has a minimal, quiet vibe; edges are clean, devoid of stitching, to better highlight the material- that’s special.

DIY Pinhole Camera Kit

A DIY Pinhole Camera Kit? Yes, please. Did you know that Astronomer Gemma Frisus de Radio constructed the first pinhole camera to examine the solar eclipse of 1544? That was a long time ago, and to this day some photographers still prefer pinhole cameras to get a vintage, moody look for their shots. Maybe try it out by putting together this kit and taking some photos, you know, with actual film? It could be fun!

Baggu All Weather Bag

Originally designed for surfers, this all-weather gear bag has welded seams and a water resistant zipper to keep water completely in (or completely out, if that’s your goal). Surfers, just stand inside the bag to remove your wetsuit, then zip it up for your trip home. Sand and seawater will be safely contained within. Everyone else, know that whatever you put in the bag will stay dry no matter what (within reason).

Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer

We can all agree that $400 is a lot of money to spend on a hair dryer. Not everyone is going to plonk down four big ones just for shinier, smoother hair that dries in half the time. Actually, if you have short hair, there’s really no reason to read any further. However, if you’ve got longer hair, well, here’s a personal review.

Enamel Steel Keychain

Need some sturdy tags to make sure you keep your home, work, camp, and ‘play’ keys separate? Take a look at Best Made Co.’s enamel steel tags. They’ll take a beating, as they’re made on World War Two-era machinery, just like the other enamelware offered from the retailer. Buy the set of four or choose just one.

Block Shop Scarves

Block Shop’s rugs will get their due attention next week, but, first, let’s just admire their scarves, shall we? A mix of thin lines and shapes create patterns, all hand block printed by 5th generation master printers in Bagru, India, with natural dyes on a silk/cotton blend. I’ve got my eye on the Tent design, or maybe the Sidewinder. Which one is your favorite?

Pupitre

Are you old enough to remember (or still use) an actual clipboard? I like how this molded plywood Pupitre* designed by José Cabrita functions sort of like a clipboard, without the clip. Sure, it holds your iPad or tablet upright handily enough with the slot in its curved surface, but that surface also gives you a place to take notes or stack your current papers and magazines. The curvature also makes it easy for you to grab the whole stack and move it from the table to the sofa, or from your desk to the conference room.

InstruMMent 01

A new measuring tool? Sign us up. The InstruMMent 01 captures dimensions of any object and logs the measurements through your smartphone. One end of the pen/pencil/stylus has a black rubberized wheel that rolls over flat and curved surfaces. Sensors record the distance travelled (in 0.1 mm increments) with a laser to help you gauge exactly where you start and finish. Want to see how big your face is, or capture your exact profile? Roll the end from your forehead to your chin, then watch the line appear in the accompanying app. What about measuring a chair or a sculpture? Roll the end across and around, and ta-da! You’ll have the dimensions ready to share. The app will translate scaled quantities as well (and you can import to CAD!). So fun.
