Sofas

Sunday Sofa

This sofa looks like a pretty perfect place for a long nap, don’t you think? Sort of like sweatpants for your living room, it’ll keep you comfortable while signaling you give approximately zero forks what other people think of you. Just kidding, this sofa isn’t nearly that bad… but it does look that comfortable.

Cloud High Back Sofa

Prepare yourself, for this high-backed sofa carries a high price tag. But you can understand why, can’t you, especially when considering the feather and foam-filled cushions, slim steel legs, and tall, curved shell that envelopes you whenever you sit down to rest your weary feet. You’re sure to find that this sofa provides a quiet spot for reading or watching movies (or napping), which is a valuable thing in any busy household.

Mega 2 Seater and Daybed

Close your eyes and imagine the smell of freshly baked bread. Now open them and feast your hungry eyes on the Mega 2 Seater and Daybed. See any similarities? Designer Chris Martin was inspired by risen loaves against a metal frame in a bakery, and now we can all get an idea of what sitting on bread would feel like, with the added bonus of continual comfort, of course.

Can Sofa by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec

This sofa is has a secret; any guesses as to what it is? Designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Hay, the Can Sofa is modern, looks quite comfortable, and has several color options. There’s a 2-seater, 3-seater, and a Lounge Chair. The secret is that it arrives at your door flat-packed, in a box. That gives you eco-friendly points, as it cuts down on shipping and delivery costs. Assembly is uncomplicated- no screws or tools needed. Nice, right? Oh, and if you get the 3-seater, please note that it quickly becomes a quick guest bed by just removing the back cushions.

Harris Sofa by Montauk

Sofas are the most important of furnishings, right up there with mattresses. After all, we spend lots of time on our sofas- reading, watching shows and movies, sleeping. So, you might as well invest in something you really, truly love, right? For a recent project I looked and looked for the right sofa: it needed to be at least 8′ long, low, streamlined and soft. As in, take-a-nap-on-it soft. As is my usual luck, Montauk Sofa, which is not in my state, and only has showrooms that required me to get on a plane to see the sofa in person, had the right match: the Harris Sofa.

Gray Fabric Sofa

If you’ve ever shopped for a sofa with a clean, minimal style, you know that most of the time they’re shockingly expensive. This Gray Sofa is not (in comparison). It has reverse-stitched seams, the requisite low profile, and an option of high or low arm height…or, do one of each, as shown in the image above. Custom fabric is also available. Curious? Yeah, me too. This may help your decision as well: each piece of Interior Define’s furniture collection* is made-to-order and every piece has a 365-day return policy. Pretty crazy (in a good way), right?

Palo Corner Sofa Right Blue

Hmm, here’s something new on the radar. Not only does this sectional sofa possess the clean lines and modern form that we’re all after, it also can be rearranged as you see fit. Cushions and armrests may be moved (with the struts) to create different combinations. So, maybe you’ll get the Palo Corner Sofa Right in Blue (shown above), or maybe you prefer the smaller Two Seater in Grey (below) with the Ottoman to keep it company. Either way, there’s a certain satisfaction knowing you can mix things up in the future by adding or moving certain pieces around to fit your space.

Sleeper Sofas

Holidays almost always means visitors, family or friends, and if you like those visitors enough to invite them to stay at your home, you certainly don’t want them to sleep on the floor. Unless you’re fortunate enough to have a whole dedicated room just for guests (lucky you), you’ll need a sleeper sofa. Here’s a few sleepers that look comfortable to sit on and comfortable enough to get a decent night’s rest, not to mention they’re utterly acceptable to shoe-horn into your modern-ish abode.

Swell Sofa

This Swell Sofa has some serious curves that catch the eye. Just add a cartoon character with a bike pump beside the image above, and you’ll get the idea- it’s a playful take on a minimal form, with super stuffed cushions that are inviting you and I to take a seat, take some time, and relax already. ‘Swell’ refers to rising bread in the oven, if you prefer that visual. And, equally impressive, it’s available in 21 colors.

Pendel vs. Suitor

And, now, we have a loveseat vs. loveseat scenario, with each 2-seater sofa having similar proportions and styling, especially in their higher backs and curved corners. The bases and fabric are completely different, of course, but please play along with me here in guessing which one costs $2,301 more, and do ignore the fabric when making your guess…

Bank Sofa

Well, what do we have here? I’d say one heck of a well proportioned, piped-cushion sofa. Go ahead and insert a wolf-whistle to fully pick up the appreciation that I’m putting down for this Bank Sofa by Blu Dot. Grey is usually the color choice I’d recommend for longevity, but this lava-lipstick red sure is a show stopper. Choose between super skinny blackened metal or brass legs.

Cleon Small Sectional Sofa

Let’s talk sectional sofas. They’re usually expensive, and you get whacked over the head with various interior suspension info that you probably don’t care too much about, even though it’s important, especially as you’ll be sitting on it for every day for the rest of your life.

We’ll not revisit any bullet points about frames, springs, or foam, we’ll just look at this small sectional sofa from Blu Dot and admire its simplicity and configuration possibilities. Also, for someone that’s continually worried about dogs/kids/dirty-shoes-on-furniture, when you look at how the components come apart, it looks like a breeze to reupholster should it be needed in the future. Available in sectional groupings, or each individual piece on its own.

B&B Italia Leather Sectional Sofa by Afra Scarpa

I’m obsessing over 1970’s vintage leather right now, and mainly this arose out of living with a man who is allergic to my cat. My wool Bottoni sofa is a virtual sponge for cat dander, and my poor boyfriend can’t take it any longer. We looked at new leather–but if you buy a high quality piece it will cost about as much as a car. So, on to Ebay I went. I scored a cool 70’s Italian leather piece from B&B Italia for a song. There are similar listings on auction sites for around $8500, but if you’re not in a hurry, you can wait it out and get a good price like I did.

Desi Sofa

If you’re needing a sofa and an end table, consider this combined version that’s inspired from the mid century era. While perhaps this isn’t the most lounge friendly (as in slouchy-curl-up-and-read-a-book, just take a look at the seat back angle), it does have a tailored silhouette that would look entirely proper in a modern day living room. Plus, it’s right under the $1G mark, which is rare for a sofa these days.
