Cell Phone Telephoto Lens

Hmm. Sometimes I wish my phone would take better pictures, but as to whether I would go to the trouble to carry this around and put it on when I want to take (better) pictures, I just don’t know. I’m curious as to how well it would work.

“Simply and easily top the camera on your cell phone, iPhone or any other smart phone with this external lens, sure to upgrade your phone’s camera to create high-quality photos. Coated optical lens for magnifying objects up to 8 times; clear focus; adjustable clamp for fitting most phones.”

Adjusts from approx 1.5″w to 2.75″w.

Pentax Optio H90

I love this little camera. It’s specs are perfectly competitive: 12 Megapixels, HD video recording and it’s designed to be compatible with the Eye-fi wireless memory cards which mean you can connect to your computer and upload your pictures without a cable. The best thing about it though are the colours and the styling. It’s very minimal with a distinctly Japanese look and the colours are very refreshing. Orange if you’re bold or clean black and white if you’re more conservative.

Available from February 2010 for $179.95

Sugru Hack and Mend DIY Silicone

Fix it! Hack it!

Sugru is a new silicone material that lets consumers “hack” products themselves to make them more comfortable and useful for a longer time. It can be moulded by hand or with simple tools. It sticks to things and cures at room temperature to a tough and durable yet soft-touch silicone. Available in a wide range of colours, Sugru is waterproof, flexible and dishwasher-safe once it’s cured; it’s also temperature resistant between -60 and 180 degrees C.

I’m a firm believer in open-source, so products that are open ended and empower consumers like this really quite inspire me. I just hope this stuff works as good as it sounds.

Jenny Holzer Temporary Tattoo Set

Just for fun, and, just in case you want to be like Tobias Wong except without the permanence. (If I had the guts, I would ask Tobias to write the same thing on my own arm and then have that tattooed. I’m serious, if I had the guts…)

The Whitney Museum’s Jenny Holzer Temporary Tattoos were produced for the exhibition Jenny Holzer: PROTECT PROTECT in collaboration with the artist’s studio. Designed using select tattoo fonts by Whitney designers, the 12 text pieces were chosen from Holzer’s Survival series and produced in a print run of 200 by Temptu, a professional cosmetic firm in NYC. Laid out on a single sheet of transfer paper, they are as collectible as Holzer’s pieces of printed ephemera, such as her early sticker and newsprint projects.

A Stand Laptop Stand

For those wanting to add a bit of industrial aesthetic to their desktop, look no further than the A Stand Laptop Stand, which is literally made of PVC pipe. MacBook Air

While not exactly new, the MacBook Air is still the ultimate travel computer. Light enough and uber-portable yet with all the features of a fully-functioning laptop, it takes some beating. Limitations of no built-in optical drive and only one USB are quickly remedied by wireless solutions and the portable DVD/CD drive that you can buy for $99, but who buys CDs and DVDs these days anyway?

If you can afford it, go for the SSD version which really flies and more than makes up for the comparatively slow 2.13GHz processor. Truly awesome and very pretty to boot!

Rumba Time Digital Watch

I remember being in high school and the inner-city-cool-kid thing to do was collect candy-colored plastic watches from fast food happy meals and <gasp> wear them. Thankfully, I never quite fit in and managed to make it through without succumbing to peer pressure. Made of stretchy silicone and water resistant to 30 meters, this unisex (and stackable) watch is a more stylish nod to the days of yore. (The test tube is just clever packaging.)

Available in a rainbow of colors and three sizes: 6, 7, and 8 inches long
