Ortho Remote

This blue hockey-puck-looking-thing is a wireless remote for your sound system. How does it work, you ask? Click it once to start playing music, twist it to turn the volume up or down, tap to pause… you get the idea. It was originally designed for Teenage Engineering’s OD-11 Cloud Speaker, yet it follows universal Bluetooth standard for HID so you can use it with any music player on mac OS X, iOS, or Android. A magnetic back gives you the option to stick it on any metal surface, or make use of the non-slip bottom to keep it in place on your table, desk, or countertop.

Wrist Ruler

There’d be no more wondering about exact measurements if you had this ruler around your wrist. Sure, a leather wristband is not for everyone, but for those of us that continually carry around a measuring tape, it could be a smart alternative. Inch and centimeter measurements are engraved on the outer surface with a stud closure, so it’d be easy to take it on and off to get a quick read on smaller dimensions. Notice that I said ‘smaller’ there- it wouldn’t be ideal for measuring a long sofa or a room’s dimensions*, for example.

No Line No Wave Scarf Collection

If you happen to have a loved one that likes scarves and other strange, artistic things, then the No Line No Wave Scarf Collection should be on your list of birthday/anniversary/special event gift ideas. Glasgow-based studio Briggs & Cole invited twelve Scottish creatives to contribute designs, and the result is an odd-yet-wonderous array of silky squares. Be forewarned, though, as each scarf is produced as a limited edition of ten each, sold only in sets of two.

Library Card Tote Bag

Do you recognize the card image on this tote bag? Congratulations, you are officially old and wise. If you don’t immediately recognize it, then I’ll do the patronizing thing and explain it to you as if you were an idiot a child.

Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1

Whoa. The Artiphon Instrument 1 lets you play any instrument you want with a single device. Huh? You’d best watch their Kickstarter video, as that’s the quickest way to understand the full scope of what the Artiphon offers. The digital interface works with any MIDI-compatible software and the ergonomic design allows you to hold it in various positions- guitar, violin, piano, bass, drum machine, etc.

Underfuse Iron-On Reflective Strips

Does your favorite workout gear have reflective strips? Mine certainly don’t, but that’s about to change. Underfuse Iron-On Reflective Strips are easy to apply and will help make sure you don’t get run over by a bus/truck/inattentive driver when you’re out walking your dog or running at night. Iron a few strips on your jacket, bag, or workout clothes and stay visible. Also, Underfuse also has an iron-on pocket for your smartphone and/or keys, just in case you’d like to further customize your clothing.

Tangram Travel Organizer

It’s almost the end of February, which prompts this question: is it time to take a trip somewhere? It really doesn’t matter where, as long as it’s not extremely cold (unless you’re skiing or snowboarding). This Tangram Travel Organizer cleverly folds up in a flat, triangular fold to make packing easy. Unfold at your destination- use the elastic loop as a hook if you wish- to see everything neatly organized.

Amish Scooter

Scoot around town with ease in this Amish Scooter. This version is a scooter-bicycle hybrid and it combines the best of both worlds. A powder-coated steel frame and fenders will stand up to all sorts of bumps and bruises while 16-inch wheels will get you to your destination almost as quickly as a regular bike. There’ll be little to no balance or knee strain issues, yet it’s large enough to tote around a bag of groceries. Plus, it won’t look like you stole a kid’s scooter, which is important for your reputation. A Pennsylvania-based Amish family has been manufacturing these for three generations; they invented the scooter as an alternative to a bicycle, which their church does not allow.

Moment Case

Mobile photography is only getting better as more and more people rely on their smartphones, and, thankfully, the people of Moment aren’t resting on their laurels. They’ve entered the iPhone 6 case market, with a shell that turns your phone into a better camera. The shutter button has half press and full press features, the Moment Lenses can easily be attached/detached, and there’s a strap attachment at the bottom to keep your phone from falling through your fingers right after you’ve taken a great shot. See the video below for more, or visit their Kickstarter page to back the project.

Cycloc Endo Bicycle Storage

What, you need another bicycle storage solution? The Endo from Cycloc might check off all the right boxes: it’s a vertical hanging solution that fits a wide variety of bicycles while protecting walls from both front and back tires. It’s definitely more utilitarian in design than some of the others you’ve seen, yet its low profile when not in use will keep a space from looking too cluttered. An extra bonus: the hollow hinge allows for bicycle lock storage.

Stuff Rubber Bag

We posted this years and years ago (c.2007), and it’s still one of my favorite reusable bags. Designed by Sylvain Willenz, each Stuff bag is made out of 100% natural rubber latex- that means it’s stretchable and washable. It could be your everyday extra bag, perfect for stashing (or stuffing) extra things/purchases instead of using those oh-so-icky plastic shopping bags.

Endless Rain Record

Kris originally posted this record forever ago, but now that it’s shown up for sale at a new retailer, it’s worth another mention. Created by Japanese artist Kouichi Okamoto (a.k.a. Bekkou), the vinyl phonograph record has two sides: one side has raindrop sounds that loop endlessly, the other has a 10 minute track of the “soothing sounds of a summer rainfall.”

Reika Leather Bag Honey by Elk

Perforated material is a good thing most of the time, and this Reikรค Tote makes the most of it by using perforations as a pattern. Made from raw, washed cow hide, it’ll withstand your every day wear and tear; a small zipped pouch on the inside keeps smaller wallets or other accessories secure.

Picto Silicone Watch

Remember the Picto Wall Clock? I know you like the simple graphics of its face and hands, but here’s an idea- instead of wearing it Flavor Flav style, why don’t you get the wristwatch version? A monochrome case and band has a rotating watch face that shows the passage of time, and it’s now in MoMA’s permanent collection.
