Leather Trim Storage Desk

$699 for a leather, wood, and brass desk? Not too bad of a price, eh? Leather panels across the front surface of this desk lift up to access the drawers below. Brass studs and struts compliment the acacia veneered frame, while plenty of your desktop miscellany will fit into the double-cubbied drawers. There’s even cord cutouts and storage along the back. You’ll be organized and have money to spare. Now, let’s move on to what you can buy with that extra money…

Adap.Table Legs

The Adap.Table Legs follow along the same lines as the Floyd Leg; by simply tightening the legs onto a flat surface, you create a table. Two versions are available from Adap.Table (the Delta or the Ribbon) and a contribution of $130 gets you a set of two (add hinges for a fold down table) or $230 gets you a set of four.

Refold’s Portable Cardboard Standing Desk

What’s this stack of cardboard? It’s a standing desk from Refold, and it’s “flexible, foldable, portable, affordable & 100% recyclable.” Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? If you’d like to try the standing desk option without buying an expensive desk replacement then this would be a good way to try it out. Or, maybe you just move around a lot, and need an easy-to-move surface. Either way, check it out over on Kickstarter.

Asplund Tati Desk

Minimal/modern desks are hard to find, especially when storage is a necessity. I’ve been on a search for an update to my own home office desk, and while this Asplund Tati Desk lacks the file drawer I so desperately need, it does possess the slender, sleek lines and no-fuss styling that I’ve been after. So, if you’re organized enough (i.e.completely paperless) to not need several deep storage drawers, then this little desk might just be a good fit.

B-Desk

In the spirit of those back-to-school vibes fluttering around, let’s take a look at a petite desk from Ethnicraft’s Universo Positivo collection. A solid oak frame and surface lends warmth to the workspace while lacquered stainless steel sides creates a sense of privacy and keeps tabletop clutter corralled. Measuring in at almost 40″ wide and just less than 18″ deep, the B-Desk could easily fit into a small bedroom or a larger living space.

Georg Console Table and Stool

Small spaces can be tricky, but choose a few furnishings that work in multiple ways and you’ll be as happy as a clam. Take this Georg Console and Stool by Christina Liljenberg Halstrรธm, for instance. The minimal, raw oak console would work in entryway as landing pad for keys and mail or in a living or bedroom area as an extra workspace. With only a 12.75″ depth, it could tuck in nicely in all sorts of spots to maximize your space.

Cedric Walnut Desk

If you’ve a decent budget to spend on a desk, turn your eyes toward the Cedric. Rounded edges provide subtle detailing, giving it a quiet craftsmanship that makes it the sort of piece you’d pass down to the next generation. Made from solid European walnut; choose between a dark brown or orange leather top (and lined drawers, a nice detail).

Primary Desk by Nathan Yong

This Primary Desk is an odd sort of fellow with its angles and points and slim drawers. Inspired by mid-century furniture in the designer’s childhood, the desk hits a mark somewhere in between classic and futuristic, which isn’t an easy target, to be sure. Solid walnut makes for a sturdy frame with just enough worktop space for a small computer and writing area, and five drawers are available to squirrel away odds and ends. There’s also another thoughtful detail worth mentioning: the angle of the top drawers allow for the pitch of an open laptop. Now 15% off (until July 31).

You and Me Ping Pong Table

Pingpong anyone? Imagine special meals around this dining table: a nice dinner with the family, then bring out the net and it’s every man/woman for himself/herself. The first serve goes straight into the mashed potatoes and the second hits your Uncle (accidentally, of course, he got in the way when he was clearing the dishes) because you were overzealous with your best backhand stroke. You can’t let [insert annoying relative] win, now, can you?

All this fun can be had with the You and Me Ping Pong Table, a standard-size pingpong table that doubles as a dining table. And,it gets better: this table is appropriate for both indoors and out. A hidden drawer keeps the net, balls, and paddles tucked away when not in use with a little extra room for napkins and a tablecloth. Keep in mind this could also be a conference room table for your office; solve interoffice disputes with a game! And, it’s now available in black! So sleek.

LapTilt Table-Desk

While this isn’t new (we originally featured it in 2010), it’s still a pretty smart option if you’re leashed to your laptop. The Lap Tilt transforms from an occasional table into a small laptop desk with a simple tilt of the base. If you use your laptop in your living area for work- or, more specifically, whilst lounging on our sofas updating/perusing social networking sites- then this table would come in handy on many occasions. When not in use, the table automatically reverts back to an upright position.

Copenhague Desk

Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are at it again with the Copenhague Desk, created for the new buildings at the University of Copenhagen. While originally designed for dorm rooms, classrooms, and common spaces, I think most of us will agree that the desk and chair look a heck of a lot nicer than anything we sat on at any stage of our schooling, and deserve to be somewhere better, maybe in our home office or spare room perhaps? The Copenhague Desk has trestle style legs with a backrest for leaning books, notepads, or tablets and is made from lacquered Oak.

Two Tops Series by Marcel Wanders

While not new, the Two Tops Table by Marcel Wanders recently found pride of place on my list of dining table options for a young family. The ‘Two Tops’ has an option to use laptops or coloring books at each end, thanks to a hinged end section that flips up to access the space. To hide the workspace, flip down the lid and you have a clean tabletop for dinnertime, no clearing necessary. It’s a clever solution to make the dining area tidy each evening and allows a kitchen or dining room to serve several functions.

My Writing Desk

Is this a smart idea or what? My Writing Desk by Inesa Malafej has an outer edge or ‘wings’ to catch papers and books, not to mention all the other small desk debris that wants to jump off the surface of your worktop. The higher edges also help make the desk feel like a mini-room or microclimate, enveloping you amongst your precious things so you can concentrate and be brilliant at whatever task you attempt. Also available in a smaller size.

Risom Desk

Just a reminder that some of the spring sales are ending tomorrow. And, if you have some money to spend, you can save some money by spending a little time perusing the items on sale… such as the petite Risom Desk, originally designed in 1968 by Jens Risom for his home in New Canaan, Connecticut. Meant more for use as a writing surface than a computer station, it suits a simpler lifestyle with just one drawer with a removable walnut tray for desk supplies. Perhaps the pared down storage will encourage you to tailor your office supplies down to only the most necessary?

Sphere Table

Hmm… the idea behind this Sphere Table is to be commended, but I believe we’ll all have differing opinions as to the choice of materials. Now, considering this table was created by Hella Jongerius as a special furniture piece for North Delegates Lounge at the United Nations headquarters in New York, it’s understandable that it has a commercial feel that some may not like for their own home’s interior. The opalescent acrylic glass that forms the ‘bubble’ would definitely be more at home in a futuristic setting than in a more worn-in, vintage room, yet we all know that having a private and sheltered space when working is valuable, and certain things that allow us such space are worth getting used to.
