Desk/Work

Swish Console Desk

Console or desk, does it matter? What matters is that this Swish Console Desk from Blu Dot has a clever sliding top that conceals a drawer or work top, depending on your preference. There’s a cord management slot, so you can fit your laptop/tablet in there with no problem, and cover it all up if it gets too messy. Excellent idea, isn’t it?

Mails Woodwork

It’s rare that you get four or five pieces all from one designer in one post, but Ryan Mails of Mails Woodwork caught my eye with the clean lines and excellent craftsmanship of his heirloom-quality furniture. You’ll find all of his current items below with a few words from him describing what brought about each piece. Visit Mails Woodwork for more pictures and information (there’s a mailswoodwork Etsy shop as well).

The Floyd Leg

This is so smart I can hardly stand it. The Floyd Leg combines a table leg with a clamp- add four legs to any flat surface and you’ve got a table. Simple concept, yes, but a fine execution. There’s only 9 days to go before the campaign closes- take a look if you’re interested: The Floyd Leg on Kickstarter.

Slate Mobile AirDesk

If your favorite working spot is anywhere other than a desk, you might just appreciate this mobile desk called Slate. It’s made from a block of pure, premium bamboo, which enables a lightweight, strong surface. A docking station and flush mouse pad gives your workspace increased function and, thanks to the air ventilation holes, your lap/laptop won’t be uncomfortably warm.

Diamond Stackable Table Trestles

If you reside in a European country, I’ll admit, you’ll have an easier time purchasing these table trestles. But don’t think shipping fees will stop those of us that live, say, in the Americas, from getting our grubby little hands on them. Each Diamond table trestle is stable, lightweight, and available in two widths: 55 cm and 70 cm. If you’re planning on buying a couple for a desk or dining table, I’d recommend the blue or orange for a pop of color- go bold!

Conrad Desk

A compact desk with a little storage is just what that disorganized corner of your home needs. Note that I used the word ‘little’ in conjunction with ‘storage’: this is a good thing. You don’t need much more than the essentials, as clutter tends to multiply when left untended, so this Conrad Desk by Gus Modern will do the job efficiently without taking up too much room. And, hey, since file folders are almost as necessary as a typewriter these days, you only need a slim drawer for those papers that aren’t suitable for electronic storage.

Plunk Desk

Standing is better than sitting, blah, blah, blahโ€ฆ you’ve heard all about it, but you’re not about to change out your favorite desk for some kind of wonky contraption that screws up your whole nicely-designed-house/office vibe. Plus, you work from lots of different places, so it might not even make much of a difference anyways. Am I right?

Well, that’s just where the Plunk Desk fits in. It’s a portable, adjustable standing desk handcrafted from wood and aluminum, and, it fits into a custom bag for easy transport. Currently a Kickstarter project, you can pledge $395 to get the Plunk Desk at $100 off the retail price.

Rewrite Desk

This writing desk makes an appropriate spot for bills, correspondence (if you still use snail mail) and, more likely, your laptop. Reclaimed oak and FSC certified white oak (or locally sourced maple) legs and base combine to give a nice warmth and a traditional nod to a modern silhouette. There’s one dovetail drawer for desk accessories.

Colors & NOSIGNER’s Cartesia Desk

Talk about crazy storage, check out the way these drawers move in order to open. One goes sideways, two go forward, there’s even a sneaky one in the back for electric cables- or other things that need hiding- that you wouldn’t know is there at first glance. Created by Japanese house Colors, this desk isn’t an impulse buy, that’s for sure, but considering the master craftsmanship and materials, it’ll last longer than you will, given the proper care.

Spacebox Wall Mounted Storage Table

If you have a small space, you need a few tricks up your sleeves to maximize every square foot. Count this Spacebox Wall Mounted Storage Table as a smart option for a small worktop. Use it for your laptop (or breakfast), and then when you’re done, fold the top down to free up extra floor space. The open-front compartments are ideal for displaying your favorite items and books, and will give a little personality to the otherwise blank white frame. Think of it for the kitchen, hallway, or kid’s room.

Celine Desk

I’ve always been a fan of furniture with simple, clean lines, and so it’s no surprise that this Celine Desk caught my eye. One drawer hides away clutter and, on the right, an open cubby provides a nice spot for a stack of papers or folders. And, hey, 15% off (for a limited time, of course) makes this desk a little more ‘within reach’, if you know what I mean. The designer Nazanin Kamali was inspired by mid century architecture.

Guapo Desk

One drawer might not cut it if you tend to collect lots of stuff on your desk, but if you lean towards the ‘less is more’ approach, then this desk might just be a good fit. A thin, iron frame gives strength without taking up too much visual space and the depth is right at 19″, which means it could work as an entry console if you have the room.

How about an updated secretary desk for your home workspace? This guy by Coalesse has a cork panel back splash to pin important notes and photos, a pull-out keyboard tray, two file drawers, and a cord management system to keep things tidy. Adler Table

Speaking of height-adjustable desks, if you want something that looks less like a keyboard stand and more like an antique worktop, turn your eyes towards the Adler Table. It has a hand-operated crank, made from solid steel gears and a chromed, cast iron handle. The height range is from 27in to 42in (a little less than the X-Table) and is available in a variety of sizes, types of wood, and the steel legs can be powder-coated in almost any color.

X-Table

There’s been a lot of talk in the last year or two about the health benefits of standing while you work, but unfortunately there hasn’t been a lot of excellent options when it comes to height adjustable desks. That’s why this X-table is a welcome sight for our sore eyes and backsides. A hand-operated crank adjusts the work top from 25″ to 47.25″, so you’ll be able to change the height rather easily should you wish to switch from standing to sitting. There’s also a handy cable management space on the underside to hide messy computer cords.
