Triumph Lounge Chair

I usually complain about furniture being too expensive, but in this case I’m surprised the price is so low. For you budget-plus-design-conscious folks, you might consider this snazzy red chair.

Wallfa by Jordi Canudas

Remember this from way back in ’07? I sure do because it sort of knocked my socks off. As is often the case, there wasn’t much in the way of price or convenient online purchasing options because it was more of a prototype idea, so I refrained from posting it. But just today I ran across an actual retail link, so, here we are. If you’ve got the cash it’s a pretty fabulous seating option for a larger space (i.e. office area or loft).

Wallfa is an intriguing two sided piece of furniture that is both wall and sofa. It offers a comfortable sitting area that becomes playful when users interact from both sides of the wall. Movement, sound and touch hint at what might be happening on the other side.

American Modern Chaise

Usually the phrase ‘inspired by’ signals something iffy going on, but this piece is a good choice if you’re in the market for a chaise. While it’s distinctly midcentury in design, the classic pared-down design will mix well with other styles and allow you quite a bit of versatility. The sale ends today, so take notice of the prices if you’re interested.

Canteen Utility chair

Inspired by the post war school chair, this steel frame and beech plywood chair would work in the home or in a commercial environment. The color of the frame really makes the whole design seem playful on top of the utilitarian materials. Both lightweight and stackable, it’s a good choice for a high use area.

Powder coated steel frame married to a pressed beech plywood seat and back.
Steel frame available in grey white, jet black, mint turquoise, telemagenta, melon yellow or yellow green.

Designed by Very Good And Proper.

Bolla Sofa

Sitting at that sweet spot of just under $1G, this sofa looks super comfortable. I’d say it’s a very safe bet if you’re looking for a modern sofa in that particular price range.

Sit on it and you’ll know why this smart looker’s named Bolla (Italian for “cloud”). Skinny right-angled frame hugs overscaled poufy side/back cushions that squoosh in contrast to a firm uni-seat cushion. Structured and relaxed all at once in tonal salt/pepper tweed. Recessed legs float it just off the floor.

Glare Chair

Zzzzz! If I could wolf-whistle, I would. Talk about sleek and sexy, this chair’s got it in spades*.

Another one from the mind of Filipe Alarcão. The glare chair with is aerodynamic design comes to life in a shiny high gloss white finish bringing the latest trend in glossy pieces to a new level. This chair has a profile appealing enough to stand alone as a design accent but also fits beautifully in sets populating the modern dining room.

Dimensions: H21/18 x W18/16 x D16 in (H80/44,5 x W46,5/40 x D40 cm)

*Too bad the price turns me off… why so high? It’s the eternal question.

Nook Stool

Made from a single piece of Varioline (see below), this folded fellow looks to be a surprisingly sturdy little stool.

According to Google translator:

NOOK is made of the innovative plastic Varioline. Varioline is a sheet material that possesses a high-tech injection by one closed cell foam core, the high density of two, non-porous surface layers is enclosed. This makes the material easy and yet robust, rigid, yet flexible and weather resistant and UV resistant.

Ilio Black Diamond armchair

Well, looky here at this angled armchair. Seeing as the structure can be rotated into different sitting positions, you could think of it as two chairs (and a ‘dynamic sculpture’) for the price of one.

Chain-link fencing for a chair? Well, sure, why not… though I wonder if it would snag your clothes.

Knitted Pouf from CB2

Finally, an affordable pouf.

I’ve really loved the looks of the poufs from DWR, but at $1600, the cost was prohibitive to say the least. Now CB2 has come out with one in 100% cotton. The bad news: it only comes in the one color. The good news, it’s 100% cotton so it’s ripe for a quick little DIY using either bleach or Rit-dye to suit even the most sophisticated color-palates.

HOI Magazine Chair

It seems like there’s a recent trend in furniture designs where you can literally surround youself in books. The Bibliochase and the Bookinist were the first examples I’ve seen, and we mentioned the Cave shelving on the blog before, and now we have this, except this one specifically caters to magazines (not that you can’t put books on it if you wanted to).
