Falter Folding Stool

Reposting because it’s now $120 down from $198! I love these and I want a couple to hang on the wall for all my impromptu parties.

“Folded a million times in testing, the Falter Folding Stool is uniquely durable for such a lightweight form. The material used in its manufacture is 3F board, which is a foldable material made with a pliable middle layer between two wooden boards. This middle layer acts as a sort of swivel pin and allows the Stool to be made without hinges. The Falter Stool opens with just one hand, quickly providing a sturdy seat that holds up to 300lbs. When the versatile Stool is not in use, it folds up to a thickness of less than an inch and can be stowed in a cabinet or hung on a wall. ”

This innovative design received the Friedrich-Sulzer Design Award in 2002, the Sächsischer Staatspreis for Design in 2003 and a nomination for the Federal Award for Design in 2004. The 3F board material has also received accolades, including the Federal Award for an outstanding innovative handicraft achievement in 2003.

Bovist Pouf

I hadn’t really thought much of these until I saw them in person- they really do have a ‘particular’ charm that lends some character to the room it’s in. Sure, it’s a bit more of a dent in your wallet than any ol’ ottoman, but it has a bit more personality, so that’s the trade off.

“Bovist is a decorative floor cushion, stool, and ottoman all in one. Its appealing shape and high degree of seating comfort are thanks to the large number of pleats on the side and a filling of small plastic balls. Large sections of embroidery give the cover, which consists of different colored fabrics, a particular charm and there is a knitted thread handle for moving Bovist to different places in the home.”

Designed by Hella Jongerius.

notes: measures 21.25″ diameter x 16″ height

LC3 Grand Modele Sofa & Chair

The LC2 collection, which is extremely recognizable, has been known for its compact footprint and cushioned comfort. I’ve always felt that the sofa and chair were rather small, and not really real ‘lounge’ material, so I was quite surprised to see the LC3 collection with its much larger proportions (it’s like the granddaddy of all modernist sofas). This would definitely be an investment, but man, it looks comfortable.

“The Le Corbusier group referred to their LC2 and LC3 collections as “cushion baskets” which they designed in 1928 as a modernist response to the traditional club chair. With cushions held in place without being tethered to the frame, the idea was to offer all the comfort of a padded surface while applying the elegant minimalism and industrial rationale of the International Style…
The differences among the groups are that the LC2 is more compactly scaled, and the LC3 has down-wrapped cushions that create a softer look and feel…
Each piece is signed and numbered and, as a product of Cassina”s Masters Collection, is manufactured by Cassina in Italy under exclusive worldwide license from the Le Corbusier Foundation.”
