As promised, the Spica Light in all its glory… by none other than Iacoli & McAllister. This pic shows the Spica threaded (threaded!), and obviously it’s a bit more expensive with those hand-wrapped threads, but it sure packs a punch with a little bit of color detail. Of course, without threads the Spica is still spectacular. Also, the smaller black version with threads is over at Gretel ($795), if you’d like to see how it looks.

Whoa, talk about being pleasantly surprised, this wall Cord Lamp by Brendan Ravenhill is one heck of a deal at $150. If I still lived in the US, I would buy two of these for bedside lamps and then sit back and congratulate myself for finding such a bargain. Simple, modern, and affordable? Music to the ears.

These bright frame lights from Seattle based Iacoli & McAllister provide a nice pop of color, don’t they? I know I just posted their Table Light the other day, but I’m liking their collection too much to let it fall by the wayside (or get lost in my bookmarks, which is often the case). Their Spica Light ($800) is pretty fantastic too, but I’ll save that for another day.

This table light by Iacoli & McAllister is pretty adorable. Yes, I did say adorable, and I mean that in a modern-adorable way (think petite rather than ‘cute-as-pie’). You have your choice between a black or white steel shade and a black, red, or aqua textile cable cord set.

Lead time is currently 4 weeks.

As you can guess from these pictures, this lamp is made from a soft, flexible, felt-like material that allows various positions. No doubt it will provide you with a few moments of entertainment each day, especially if you have a pair.

This modern bedside lamp can be positioned in three different ways to control the light intensity. At its brightest it’s suitable for a reading lamp, at its lowest, a nightlight. Folded from a singular sheet of metal with a 2mm plexiglas to soften the glow.

Back in November, Supermarket asked us to pick a few things (see Guest curator: Better Living Through Design) and these lamps from Soo Kwon not only made the list but are still stuck in my head. With such a high-design look, it’s amazing that they have such an affordable price tag.

This is a custom ordered item from Science&Sons, who are well known for their Phonfone, just to get that out of the way first. Now, besides it being actually an interesting shape for a light, the idea behind the LIFT LAMP was to create an object that was fun to clean, so, to dust this lamp you’d fly it like a kite. Delightful idea, isn’t it? The light collapses down fairly quickly for easy transport.

This La Couronne Pendant from Artecnica immediately reminds me of Bertjan Pot’s Revolving Chandelier (2009), which I fell in love with not only for its black/white and transparent silver shade, but also for its delightful movement (see clip at bertjanpot.nl). While the La Couronne certainly doesn’t rotate automatically, it does possess a similar feel, and at $125, it has a very friendly price tag.

Designer Henry Pilcher turns the traditional industrial pendant shade literally on its head by encasing it in a wooden geometric frame. This unique framework allows the Block 2 lamp to be hung, free standing at many angles, and because of its now modularity, multiples can be stacked in infinite combinations (if you can actually afford more than one that is). Being that thsese fixtures can be both pendant and floor lamps, I see huge potential in these lamps for their flexibility.

A book rest and lamp all in one, this light gives a warm glow with a low-heat CFL bulb. When you’ve finished the chapter or need a tea break, simply rest the book face down on the lamp (it becomes a “literary rooftop”) to keep your place. Might also be a good night light for someone afraid of the dark…
