These aren’t new, but they are affordable and pretty lovely for the price- definitely worth keeping in mind if you need something eye catching that doesn’t break the bank. Designed by Paula Arntzen and named after the palace of King Louis XIV. Post-consumer coated Tyvek makes for a lightweight material and allows a soft glow through the folded slits.

You’ve no excuse for bare bulbs, especially after being reminded that Droog has this shade. In a few seconds, cover your bare bulb with the Hang On Easy Diffuser and then step back and bask in the soft glow of your lovely new light source. This was one of the earlier posts (c. 2006?) here on BLTD, and it’s nice to see that it remains such an easy and elegant solution.

Who is this little guy and where did he come from? The Tokyo lamp is from Misewell, and, as said earlier, Misewell can do no wrong when it comes to furniture and accessories. Little lamps are great fits for smaller tables, and as you can see from the picture below, it would complement the Grain Desk quite nicely. The shade pivots and the neck can be adjusted to give the right stance.

This little lamp takes its inspiration from the sea- think lighthouse beacons and buoys. At 8.5″ high and 7.5″ in diameter, it’s small enough to fit on a desk or large side table without taking up a lot of visual space, especially as there’s no traditional cloth lampshade. The base is made of reclaimed American red and white oak beams and the shade is thick, tinted grey glass.

These pendants get top points in the lighting-made-from-scraps category; both lights are made from the cutoff forms left over from the Merkeled Coat Rack. Each shade is made of powder-coated aluminum panels that are folded and fastened together, and you can hang them either straight down or slightly askew.

What a show stopper. The new Etch Light Web by Tom Dixon casts a lovely angular pattern when lit, showing off an elegant result of geometry applied to design. An irregular pentagon is repeated 60 times to create a total sphere approximately 65cm wide, and despite the size, the sphere remains lightweight at just over 2 pounds. It’s available for pre-order now through The Lollipop Shoppe in the UK, available September 2012.

This strange* little light is made from a tri-fold sheet of stainless steel that can be bent to reach a height up to fourteen inches. Marble has long been a luxurious product, but how about using it as a pendant shade? These hand-turned pendant lights by Benjamin Hubert are pretty spectacular, as they show off the translucent properties of thin-walled marble. By using an LED, the large internal cavity remains open in order to appreciate the rough cuts in direct contrast to the smooth exterior. Here’s hoping they’re in your budget (and if they are, you’re one lucky duck).

If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll remember the PD4 ABC Table Lamp posted a couple of weeks ago. This is the bigger floor lamp version, so, of course, it’ll cost you quite a bit more, but let’s focus on its beauty, shall we? The base of this lamp collection was inspired by the vaulted ceilings of the famous building “La Pedrera”, also known as Casa Milà, while the lampshades were influenced by the unique, perforated detail of the chimneys.

This glass cylinder lamp marries old style with modern aesthetics, making it a good choice for an eclectic interior. The clear glass means you should probably opt for Edison style filament bulbs, otherwise you’d be missing the point altogether.

Brendan Ravenhill has yet another lighting option to add to our want lists. The Hex Lamp’s shade is made from bent sheet metal and it spins and rotates to get light right where you want it. Functional and durable, it has a slight industrial feel, yet the modern shape lends itself to providing a nice sharp contrast to wherever it’s placed.

This lamp has long been on my wish list, and surprisingly, it’s actually somewhat affordable. To share a bit of its history, the PD4 lamp was originally designed by Barba Corsini in 1955 for the loft space within Antonio Gaudi’s famous building “La Pedrera”, also known as Casa Milà, in Barcelona. To learn more, see the video below. There’s also a floor lamp version, which is equally desirable, (PD2 Floor Lamp) though it’ll cost you a few more $100 bills.
